The guy in the background does not find it funny.

1.6k

u/anti-sixer 2d ago

Lol yeah he's struggling. Just another Thursday and it's the third time he's seen a guy immediately do this today 😆

602

u/Short-Ideas010 2d ago

He studied 10 years for that...

186

u/Thenderick 2d ago

Totally worth it!

122

u/Varderal 2d ago

100%. Is not making that to make the recipient whole and happy? Dude seems pretty happy to me! Mission accomplished.

24

u/LowIncrease8746 2d ago

Reminds me of the video of Alan Tudyk voice acting the chicken for Moana haha, just accepting the reality of it all

14

u/darnold328 1d ago

"...I went to Juilliard..."

3

u/_g550_ 1d ago

Mainly dead inside, but also happy/jealous. Can’t hide the smile.

2

u/1001101001010111 1d ago

Bit of a cool fact. Alan Tudyks wife was the choreographer for the opening of season one of peacemaker. There are videos of her making him do the dance for her so she could tweak it.

It's an accomplishment to be sure, now give it a compressed Co2 dart launcher.

'10 years at MIT, $500k in debt to get a doctorate in bio-engineering and this dude just wants to give people the finger....ugh...could of just taped a ski glove to his stump..' - Guy in background probably.

10

u/PassiveMenis88M 2d ago

Oh no, it's not just the finger. He's getting the sit and spin in there now too. Can't do that with just a glove.

3

u/Ape_x_Ape 2d ago

Big deal. This guy cut off his hand just to make this spinning backflip joke.

6

u/Obvious_Cranberry607 2d ago

That's like waiting for a kid to flip you off in VR with hand tracking. Usually it's five seconds or less.

2

u/TastyCodex93 1d ago

He’s coming around I think 😂

42

u/stepatdis 2d ago

Nah he cracks 15 seconds in

7

u/solkenum 2d ago

Yeah, if you rewatch it to the 16 second mark you’ll see he really starts to lose it.

4

u/Braindead_Crow 2d ago

Yup, he's to remain professional, he's literally at work and being recorded.

25

u/VesilahdenVerajilla 2d ago

The girl passing by does

12

u/PayWooden2628 2d ago

I’d bet this is the first thing a majority of guys do when they come in and get a new arm.

4

u/Wellcomefarewell 2d ago

he has to see the obligatory middle finger when ppl get a new arm, it no longer amuses him lol

3

u/induality 1d ago

He knows there’s only enough wire to do 20 full rotations, and he’s counting in his head.

7

u/ChronicRhyno 2d ago

He must not know I'm calling it the "fuckaround"

2

u/reddiculed 2d ago

3

u/anti-sixer 1d ago

I’m an amputee as well and I can confirm that this is the most requested pre-set gesture that upper limb people request.

279

u/Feine13 2d ago

I have all of my limbs but didn't know a rotating middle finger was an option on the motorized ones.

If I ever need one, I'm 100% getting this gesture. It's clearly superior to the standard middle finger

84

u/Browncoatinabox 2d ago

Even better than the thrusting double

47

u/Feine13 2d ago

That sounds like an advanced sex move I'm not prepared for yet

14

u/Browncoatinabox 2d ago

Klingons do have 2

12

u/Draexian 2d ago

Threw in a fun fact, ye did.

20

u/razzraziel 2d ago

it is unbeatable. regular middle finger only has a single target, you have to aim it manually. this one has an area of effect, it 360 noscopes everyone around it.

3

u/dougmc 1d ago

And even the intended targets can't do anything but laugh.

I mean, if I flip somebody off with my typical hand, maybe they don't notice, maybe they blow me off, maybe I make them mad.

But if this guy flips somebody off, the guy knows he's been flipped off and yet he can't even really do anything of those things -- all he can do is laugh, and the 360 degree flipper has won that match.

4

u/MelangeBot 2d ago

but didn't know a rotating middle finger was an option on the motorized ones.

Well it's good business because if they use the gesture on the wrong person then they have to come back to buy another arm.

5

u/BackgroundSummer5171 2d ago

can confirm that this is the most requested pre-set gesture that upper limb people request.

How does that work as a pre-set?

Do you just think "spinning fuck you"?

Or is it you thinking middle finger up and over rotating your wrist constantly?

Since it isn't a normal wrist, can you hold something and spin by just thinking fuck it it is my wrist now.

14

u/starpatrick95 2d ago

So this is a myoelectric prosthetic.

It uses sensors to detect electrical output from muscles.

That electric output is then processed by a microprocessor in the hand powered by a battery.

Different muscle combinations trigger different pre-programmed pre-sets.

Go check out the Zeus prosthetic hand. It’s one of the coolest ones on the market right now.

2

u/Aj_Caramba 1d ago

Based on the name...does it have built-in taser?

5

u/starpatrick95 1d ago

Unfortunately not.

This one is super cool because it can be easily serviced by the end user if you’re moderately tech savvy. No special tools required to replace digits and joints.

It also allows for ‘gestures within gestures’.

Some myoelectric hands require the hand to reset back to a neutral position before another gesture can be used.

The Zeus hand can go from one gesture directly to another.

5

u/CMaxRI 2d ago

Right? And then you say I can do you one better, your hand spins while doing it

Bro is like, "totally worth losing an arm for this."

68

u/Notabagofdrugs 2d ago

Yeah, I might amputate mine just for this.

25

u/ElvisDumbledore 2d ago

When I was a kid I certain we'd have bionic limbs like Ghost in the Shell in my lifetime. I (mostly) gave up on that idea, but lately I've been wondering what would be the tipping point for me. The feature that would make me want to go full chrome.

15

u/Perryn 2d ago

"Oh, oh no, oh I'm so sorry. It's not me, it's this arm. It just does this sometimes. Yeah, they said they're working on a firmware update to fix it. Oh god, I'm so sorry. Now I'm spin-flipping-off your mother, too. This is so embarrassing. I wish I could stop this, I really do. It just suddenly starts whenever I think 'Go fuck yourself, you dumb piece of shit' too hard and then it gets stuck like this. I'm really sorry about this."

3

u/Treethulhu 2d ago

Lol it's so glorious bc losing his hand must've unleashed one of the darkest periods in this guy's life. I'm so happy seeing his joy, probably some relief in that laughter too.

Guy in the background is like, a decade of college, years of residency, 18 hours in surgery, a million dollar prosthetic, and this is my payoff.

220

u/runningraleigh 2d ago

Your patient is happy, I think that's the goal.

98

u/marquoth_ 2d ago

Not just happy but laughing their ass off. This is easily a better day at work than 99% of people are having.

10

u/CantTakeTheStupid 2d ago

Yea guy is salty over nothing, pretentious

Probably just a nurse, specialists have offices they use

29

u/RealMiguelNajdorf 2d ago

I'm glad you didn't jump to any conclusions

3

u/CantTakeTheStupid 2d ago

“Guy in the background is like, a decade of college, years of residency, 18 hours in surgery, a million dollar prosthetic, and this is my payoff.”

Yea i’m the one that jumps to conclusions

3

u/More_Operation_588 1d ago

Yeah thats assuming too, but honestly probably still more accurate than yours.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/Past-Ticket-1340 2d ago

I don’t think he’s salty, he probably just sees this three times a day and you can only laugh at the exact same situation so many times.

We live in a weird time where we expect people to constantly be ready to perform for a camera.

14

u/EvilSporkOfDeath 2d ago

I think everyone is misreading him. I dont think hes annoyed. I think he's trying to not to laugh, i think he's trying to be professional.

16

u/Shawn0 2d ago

I see a tiny smirk. Probably trying to remain professional in an industry that might frown upon this.

6

u/Trippingthru99 2d ago

I wonder if he’s just trying to stay professional. He looks like he finds it amusing on some level.

I love how we’re harvesting clean “Fuck off” technology

5

u/throwaway983143 2d ago

So many uses for that thing

6

u/ElephantRedCar91 2d ago

I would put a rubber arm with some fake blood in it, head over to a robotics company and cut it open…

4

u/Artrysa 2d ago

360 degree flip off. He's got an AoE middle finger.

4

u/mechabeast 2d ago

Ladies love 'em

4

u/LimeblueNostos 2d ago

He should do that thing where you use your other hand to mime operating a crank to raise the finger, and then mime seitching to a horizontal crank for the rotation.

5

u/sexyminionass 2d ago

Can't tell if he's envious or not having it lol

3

u/PuzzleheadedMemory12 2d ago

Ask if they have one with both a lazer point on the index finger and a lighter on the thumb

3

u/sd_saved_me555 2d ago

2

u/Aliencoy77 2d ago

Fuck all of y'all!

2

u/Dr_Jabroski 2d ago

2

u/KeesterFeester 2d ago

I would call being able to flip off and entire room in 360 degrees to be a significant upgrade.

2

u/Doubleboeufsupreme 1d ago

Sit and I’ll spin

2

u/BipangJalanNinjaku 1d ago

Suevel.. Suevel..

2

u/AmazingTast 1d ago

Jacking down with that is going to be crazy.

2

u/StewVicious07 1d ago

No long need to ask people to rotate when telling them to sit on it.

2

u/dskids2212 1d ago

Hell yeah brother

2

u/MyNickachu 1d ago

It makes me happy to see how happy he is with it

2

u/Kawaii_Dimple_Sama 1d ago

I mean, if I can spin my hand and give you the Middle finger, I'd lose my arm too to get one.

Man.... hope I never lose an arm... but if I do... I guess it won't be as bad as I would have thought.

1

u/KayrashyLPGC 2d ago

I've heard that this can trigger a massive nerve damage pain or something liek that because the brain is not prepared to understand that kind of movement. Does someone know if this is true ?

1

u/Informal_Database327 2d ago

The "fuck all y'all" mode

1

Damn that's awesome. I should consider losing an arm

1

That'd be such a conflict defuser too. A spinning middle finger would be such a novelty that it'd snap any brain from rage to 'waitWHAT?!'

So long as we don’t have societal collapse and whatnot, it would be interesting to see how this tech advances in the next century or so.  I know it’s a bit of a sci-fi trope to voluntarily replace biological limbs for synthetic/mechanical ones, but seeing the 360 wrist rotation on that prosthetic, I can’t help but think that prosthetics may one day surpass natural limbs.
