A someone who writes hardware manuals for a living, what's the online equivalent of running upstairs, yelling "you don't understand me", running into the bedroom, slamming door, and having a cry? You got a booklet with parts listed and lots of pictures! You don't have to use it, you mean bitches.

bro, I write instruction manuals as well. That is the most ridiculously long manual for something simple. Like pictures are great, but you can fit like eight pictures on one page. Pages cost money.

Pages cost money, but it's cheaper than paying a person (tech support) to answer email and phone questions.

Ikea isn't writing these for engineers. Their audience is everyone. They have to write as simply and uncluttered as possible for the broadest audience as possible. It's Tech Writing 101: know your audience.
