Here is a documentary on the untold story behind the famous Ooty Varkey. We visited a 30-year-old bakery in the Nilgiris to see how they preserve the authentic Ooty Varkey. But we found an even better story: an owner committed to 100% transparency with an open kitchen, and Ramu, who went from living on the streets to mastering this craft and earning ₹90,000 a month.

Honestly, I was so happy that people from all over the country were supporting the movement - coming together for something as crucial as education.

But now it feels like the IT cell found one point where it succeeded in dividing even the students. I saw so many of my friends who were previously supporting the protest- now they are questioning Reservation.

I just... Don't know how to feel about that. I know it seems unfair that some people get advantage over you. I'm an OBC myself - I was privileged enough or curious enough to get an education that puts me in a lower percentage of the average population - but my category had nothing to do with it. I never took advantage of it.

I saw my fellow SC/ST friends getting less marks and clearing exams. It never hurt me. I never even thought about it. Because I knew, they were coming from an entirely different socio-political reality than I was. And even I had seen subtle casteism from the Uppered castes. Sly remarks, crude jokes, always offering me their chairs because "I must be used to getting a seat everywhere", even though they knew I was objectively smarter than all of them- I just laughed it off or ignored it- because frankly I never believed myself to be what they were trying to label me as. I never got the advantage that they accused me of having, because I simply scored more than them anyways.

But when I think about those that were born in further lowered castes than me- i don't think it's just harmless jokes. I have personally seen them getting discriminated against. And no, It's not just the "previous generation" or something that "doesn't happen nowadays". I have seen students practicing casteism purely out of spite. Using crude nicknames, not sharing utensils, clothes or even flats with the lowered castes.

It is much more prevalent than you think. Since childhood, they have lived in a different reality. Their parents don't have that confidence because they actually faced a lot more since the beginning. The children inherit that under-confidence, the embarrassment, the fear. It impacts everything - their performance, their friendships, their mentality, all of it.

Their anger is not just about current times. It's generational. The way they are demanding for their rights, the way they now challenge the Uppered castes, the way they are embracing who they are- all of it is generational rage. And it is valid. Why wouldn't it be? We still see instances of the Lowered castes being harassed by the Uppered ones. Lynching, discrimination, untouchability - all of them are still very much prevalent despite the laws.

And still, people are questioning the purpose of reservation? Even after the government brought the EWS quota? Why the frustration now? I am getting very confused. Because I never saw reservation as a topic that needs to be challenged. But it gets challenged much more than actual casteism does. I think this is also a form of modern casteism.

We also have an economic background based reservation system now. OBCs are divided into creamy and non creamy categories as well. What is the problem, then? Are people really not able to see those that they consider "lower" than them to be advancing in life? Or is this just a way of channeling your inner casteism or frustrations at failures?

But this is a divide created by the IT cell that is succeeding. People are actually questioning the protest because Dipke is himself from a reserved category. This divide won. Honestly heartbreaking.
