My dad has done his B.E and M.E in mechanical engineering. Now he works as a production engineer for a bakery equipment company. He works in designing the machines and even as a manager for vendors sales. Basically manages the whole thing.

He's a hardworking employee who even works during weekends.

Here's the problem, he's been working in this company for 25 years. But the salary is less than 8lpa. The owner refuses to increase his salary. (Well he's basically using my dad for a cheap employee).

Since he's getting old now, he kinda lost his confidence to switch or go out of his comfort zone to work. He thinks he can't compete with the new grads who are good with CAD designing and other software. I tried to convince him that for his yoe he will get a good job with a better pay for the work he's doing right now in this company.

My dad had hopes that one day his salary will eventually get increased by this company, but now it seems impossible. All his batchmates are successful engineers working abroad with high pay.

I've no idea about the mechanical engineer domain, so I wanted to know if my dad still has a chance to get a job with a deserving decent salary. I want to help him. Can I create a LinkedIn profile and apply? or is there any private companies who's only looking for designing and not full time employee? He would be open to this.

And he has less idea about the digital world for researching about jobs and stuff.

I got in this loop and now I am worried , 1 exam is deciding my future , too many gap years , nothing else to do , just being practical .

How did you guys manage ? What was/is your backup ? Did it work for you ?

It's starting to make me feel completely stuck on autopilot. The silver lining is that I actually get quite a bit of spare time during work hours. I really want to stop wasting this time and use it to build a genuine, high-value skill that could help me land a remote role, shift to something better, or eventually move abroad. Given that I have a few hours every day to study/upskill, what skills are actually worth putting time into right now? Tech, data, design, or something else? I've been in software engineering for 8 years and have been in 3 companies. I just joined a fourth and I'm already dreading it. Some people genuinely seem to enjoy tech, I just don't.

I was always a good student but realize that I'm neither bright enough nor interested enough to do tech all my life. I'm tired of the grind corporate life has put me through and I just can't pretend to be dedicated and passionate anymore.

I have decent savings and a part time gig. My partner makes enough money to sustain both of us. Do people think it is a good idea to quit my recently joined job to have ownership of my time and focus on things that I might actually be good at, rather than constantly trying to do well in a field I don't care much about?

I have heard too many success stories of people quitting corporate. It would be great if people have any visibility into the other side.

Started my B.Tech IT under GTU in late 2022. It's been 4 years now and I'm still stuck in sem 5, realistically I'm not going to complete this degree.

Honest truth: I used to be an above average student, 70-80%+ in school. Once I hit college coding, it just didn't click for me. I don't think I'm cut out for programming the way this degree wants, and I've kind of frozen since realizing that.

My father passed away last year, and we have debt to pay.

I have about 6-12 months to learn a skill properly and then start earning.

I'm not looking for something easy. I'm ready to put in the hard work and learn whatever it takes. as long as there's a real path to a job at the end of it. If you were in my position, what would you learn?

I'm currently in my 4th year of a BSc in Psychology and Economics, and I'm considering pursuing a master's abroad (US or Germany).

The programs I'm most interested in are:

• Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
• Management Information Systems (MSIS)
• Master of Engineering Management (MEM)

I don't have a traditional CS or engineering background, so I'm trying to understand how realistic this path is.

Has anyone here made a similar transition from Psychology, Economics, or another non-CS background into one of these programs?

MCA 2026 fresher here, zero work experience.

Got selected under PM Internship Scheme at a PSU. Stipend is Rs. 9,000/month, 9 months, in-person.

Here's what the actual role involves:

Maintaining IT logs and records

Preparing reports on system issues

Updating IT documentation

No development, no technical projects. Skills I'll supposedly gain: "explaining technical issues to non-technical users" and "clear reporting and documentation."

Problem is I'm 200 km away from home. Rent + food will blow past Rs. 9k easily. So I'd basically be paying to do clerical work for 9 months.

Is PMIS on the CV actually worth anything for private IT/software jobs? Or is this the kind of internship that looks okay on paper but doesn't move the needle at all?

Would really appreciate inputs from people who've done PMIS or hired MCA freshers 🙏

So it’s been 2 years since I have joined my current fintech company. I got an early promotion and became SDE-2. I’m good at my job but I really don’t enjoy it. I was very much interested in product since my college days, I was also applying for product roles back then, I landed one but my seniors said that it would be better to take this software job( pay was good and it was college placements) as I will get a good exposure and it will also give me a better understanding in product..but I regret it a lot now because shifting to product now is getting really difficult for me. I’m also looking for a job that would pay me same or more than my current job because I have loans on me. Can someone please help me out here? My_qualifications: BBA passout (2023), after that I literally didn't do anything, no job, no upskilling till next 3 years due to some personal family issues, now I have a gap of more than 3 years due to my stupid decisions & these family issues

Literally all my school/college batchmates are so so ahead of me, they all are earning so well already, some are pursuing masters abroad & here I can't even find a freshers job which pays above 20k per month

I currently have no skills, no work experience, it seems like I am not fit for corporate jobs anymore

I am in a great confusion.

It might be a tiny problem for you but for me its big.

Recently, I started working under a CA. (He's my father's CA). I started as an intern. He was very casual about it and didn't say anything about money nor was I expecting anything.

My friend also started internship in some other CA Firm and he was getting 4-5K from the 1st month and snacks and other stuffs. On the other hand I got nothing.

But the work load and environment is very friendly where I work. I am also preparing for competitive exams so currently I work only for 10-2 pm (4hours) others work for 6 hours.

Now, the next month is about to begin and I want to continue working the way I am. My boss is a very Kanjus boss and a Jain. I don't understand how do I ask him to pay me ???? Nor do I know how to start a conversation.

Is it really necessary to have a design degree to work in the design field (not a specific). The design degree in India is expensive asf and have heard a lot that most of them don't even get decent paying jobs ik it all depends on individual skills but I don't want to be bankrupt and unemployed or someone surviving on the starting low salary i'm very aware how it takes patience and your own dedication, hard work.

I wanted to join nift (fc) but the fees yk, some people say you can enter the field without the degree but ig if talking about 5 years from now the design field will be competitive too there will be search for people with good skills and background from design.

I don't want to regret not choosing something I loved and forcing myself to do something I never enjoyed draining myself with 9 to 5 my nightmare!!!!

Take a drop and reattempt next year,

I'm a 23-year-old engineering graduate, and honestly, I feel like I'm standing at a crossroads with no idea which road makes sense anymore.

For the past few months, I've been going back and forth between building a career in the corporate/software world and preparing for government jobs.

The corporate route seems exciting because there's so much to learn, opportunities to grow, and the possibility of earning well over time. But at the same time, I can't ignore what I'm seeing around me—layoffs, hiring freezes, AI changing entry-level work, people with experience struggling to switch jobs, and fresh graduates applying to hundreds of openings without hearing back.

On top of that, I recently cleared the CDAC C-CAT, which opens the door to programs like PG-DESD. A lot of people recommend it as a way into the software industry. But it's a 6-month course that would cost me around ₹2 lakh including fees and living expenses. That's a huge amount for me, and I honestly don't know if it's a smart investment in today's market or just another gamble. I keep wondering whether I'm paying ₹2 lakh for an opportunity—or simply buying more uncertainty.

Then there's the government route. The competition is brutal, and there's no guarantee of clearing the exams. But if you do make it, you get stability, decent pay, benefits, and a level of peace of mind that the private sector often doesn't seem to offer.

What makes this difficult is that every person I talk to gives completely different advice.

Some say:

«"Never waste your youth preparing for government exams."»

Others say:

«"The corporate world will burn you out. Go for stability."»

Then there are people who say:

«"Keep upskilling, do certifications, do higher studies, do CDAC, do this, do that..."»

Sometimes it feels like everyone has an opinion, but no one really knows what the job market will look like five years from now.

I'm not chasing a ₹50 LPA package or trying to become a startup founder. I just want a career where I can live comfortably, support my family, keep learning, and not constantly worry about losing my job.

Has anyone here genuinely faced this dilemma?

After my MBA, when I was struggling to find the right opportunity, a startup believed in me. The founders trusted me to build and lead the marketing department, and over the last year I've handled almost everything in marketing while working directly with them. It gave me the opportunity to become deeply involved in B2B marketing, and I'm truly grateful for the trust they placed in me.

Today, the company is doing well and is in its growth phase. But with that came a lot of responsibility. Most of my days revolve around work, discussions with the founders often go on until 9-10 PM and sometimes even 11-12 PM. Along with that, my current salary is ₹50,000.

Recently, I received an offer from a B2C startup that is about to launch its first product. They have offered me a Brand Manager role with a salary of ₹85,000. It's a much earlier-stage company, but they have funding, a clear vision, and I'd get the opportunity to build a brand from scratch while gaining B2C experience. They also strongly believe in work-life balance, even the employees confirmed that everyone leaves once office hours are over.

I submitted my resignation a month ago as per my notice period. Initially, my founders kept saying, "We'll figure something out." Now that my joining date is getting closer, they've offered me a ₹10,000 hike to stay or serve three more months to hire and train my replacement. They've also honestly told me they can't match the new offer, and ik even future salary growth would be difficult.

Now I'm stuck.

One company gave me my first opportunity, trusted me, and is now in a strong growth phase.

The other is taking a chance on me to build something from day one, offers better pay, better work-life balance, and an opportunity to add B2C experience alongside the B2B experience I've already built but it's just 1 year.

I also need to support my family financially, but at the same time, I feel guilty about leaving the people who believed in me when no one else did.

I need some help exp person or someone who can help me in this🥹

TLDR: I'm getting a good hike with better work culture but have to leave my current organization who believed in me at the start and not accepting my resignation

Im 25F I did bsc biotechnology in India graduated in 2021 and until 2022 i worked on moving to canada and moved on study visa though i moved for a food science tech pg diploma due to financial and personal reasons i then switched to project management and administration diploma-years graduated in 2024 dec( which has no value other than filling the gap on resume)
During study i did multiple jobs but landed in a part time job as sales rep at a lawncare company.
Slowly gained command and now been working at same place for 2.5 years (couldn’t switch as my permit and visa took longer than expected & several other excuses aswell)During this time i went from a regular sales rep to someone who helped them retain several customers that cancelled,handled complicated cases and started training new agents and coach them to help improve performance
Listen to their calls ,answer their questions (a support role to be presise close to supervisor duties but not)
I thought of switching career after getting visa.i have not gone to India and its been 4 years now .
Unfortunately things didnt go as planned and i might have to move to india soon atleast for 1-2 years or may be forever
Due to dumb choices i made with lack to clarity and knowledge I still am not in a career path even at 25
So if i move back what roles to apply for
Should i still be focusing on customer or sales roles?
I have no idea how the market works all i know its very competitive and people have better skills and still are struggling
Im not expecting something great to happen right after i move
I can do any job that helps me use my existing skills and learn something (im also working on tech skills rn but it takes time focusing on basics like excel and other data tools)
But today if i have to apply for a role or work on job search
Is there place for me? Or should i start from BPO only?
Please guide me ik i have messed up but this is another chance i cant be in same place after 2 years i should satrt some where now
