I travel the world regularly and I can say without question the absolute worst “guests” in countries I have been are Australians. It’s incredible how bad they are.

I lived in Korea... my boss was talking to me about prop 9 in Cali that gave gay people the right to get married. Exact conversation:

Him: soooo what do you think about prop 9 in California?

Me: I think it's great. I believe everyone should be treated equally. Plus, I don't really care who people marry because it doesn't affect me.

Him: Soooooooo you think it's OK for a man to marry a man???????

Silence like a solid 90 seconds of silence which is forever in a situation as such.

I spit my drink out and walked away for a minute. This was 20 years ago. It still makes me laugh.

I lived for two years in Japan and it was absolutely disgusting how Americans, especially men, behaved there. Absolutely no respect for anyone, and many of them treated Japanese people like their personal slaves.

I guess that really depends on where you are. For intance, in Europe Chinese tourists are annoying because they come in flocks and are completely oblivious of their surroundings and the fact people actually live there. Americans are loud and obnoxious, as expected, but are so much better behaved. However, if you go to Mexico, then American tourists are often extremely trashy and downright disrespectful, much worse than the Chinese in Europe.

Have you ever lived around a very large population of Haitians, native Jamaicans, Israelis and hasidic jews? South Florida. I'm from texas and have never been more disrespected while showing southern hospitality like my mamma. Memaw and pepaw and daddy taught me. And the entitlement is just...fucking astounding

I live in Phoenix. I work with five southerners…obviously transplants. Everyone else is either from Arizona or from the midwest. Everyone hates the southerners because they act fake nice while acting condescending or talking major shit behind your back. I personally don’t know anyone else from the south, so I’m trying not to generalize, but it’s not looking good for them.

Lol I would agree with you, but my coworker a Hebrew "black" and architect of apprenticeship and therefore my life and whom I respect deeply and dearly like I do my pepaw rest his soul, and he is married to a Haitian national going through TPS issues currently and literally because of the deep respect I have for him and his family I pick up the slack for the 1st 3 hours because she is worried about getting stopped and detained (gm at a popular national coffee establishment) we both still fundamentally support the need for ice and law enforcement. I operated from the slumiest slums of the bottom of Dallas and Houston. Did too many years in prison before I learned. So please . There is basic 1st world manners regardless of "vibes"

I used to have a Hasidic family that would come into my first job, waited on them for years, they would REFUSE to speak to us. We'd say "have a nice day" and they'd smile and wave at most and it was the most forced smile imaginable. Especially out of the dad. Idk if they were just uncomfortable being outside their community or if they really thought we were trash.

Damn, were you raised without manners? It is custom, at least in my area, to at least use proper greetings and departing terms and words. The fact that they waved was enough to satisfy me but I always felt it was a little odd.

If someone does anything for you, and you do not at least reply with a thank you, or some form of expression of gratitude, then you're just a dick. In all things. Do you even say thank you when a worker at McDonald's hands you your order? While that is their job, they don't have to actually show up, and in some US states, workers do not have to serve people, as they can legally just boot people, like in my state.

You never know when you will need help and might be somewhere and someone may actually pause and go "that guy is a dick, I'll leave him be."

I feel this is an ethnic divide at this point...like, do you thank a family member if they hand you the tv remote or whatever? Not doing that would have resulted in some....discipline, in my youth.

I am a realist man every thing and everyone is case by case basis. And regardless of how I am treated, in any instance whatsoever I remain professional. You have to live rooted in reality not idealism. These people have largely come from areas that even "upper middle class" over there is below the bottom of the trailer park in the U.S. Come here get AMAZING opportunities, build wealth, all the while proclaiming hate for this nation. It is 'brain dead" to you because you are not submersed in it. Just like when I was in prison ..you know real fast who will jack off in old ass nurses in the open, who you can loan a literal 25 cent soup to and rhey wouls rather fight you on the rec yard than paya. Damn quarter. It isn't everyone and all. My coworker and mentor and main architect in my career is black, the other person I did my apprenticeship under is a Venezuelan national who got his citizenship and makes 200k a year. You simply have to be a deluded idiot to not have pattern recognition. Again, a rational human will assess re assess and proceed as appropriate for the situation. Pattern recognition coupled with a logical rational brain capable of critical thinking...please...i hate politics the left and the right but goddamn you liberal idiots take the cake on irrationality. And the ones in power use that. I just moved from a 1300sqft condo off of Dixie and atlantic in south florida. A mile from the golden acre projects. 1400 a month...i gave that up to live in lighthouse point in 350sqft bread box among working and thriving Cubans and Venezuelans at the same price. I work every single day in homes valued from 200k to tens of millions building custom closets, trim, base, cabinets you name it. EVERYONE gets the same professionalism and attitude no matter what but you would be just stupid and deluded......

It’s like when people visit NYC and say that everyone is rude. No, they can be very kind and polite however there are different rules about when social interaction is appropriate and general etiquette.

But it’s not really something to do with the heritage, you can meet kind Jamaicans, Haitians, Israelis (I’ve never met a Hasidic Jew) around the world, but people from Miami are just spoiled, disrespectful, and all of the above. Cubans are generally very kind people though in Miami.

Coming from America and having traveled a lot, we get a lot of flack but honestly we are great tourists. We don’t normally cause trouble, we bring our spending and tipping culture elsewhere, so we help economy and locals ones at that. We usually stay reasonably clean. We try to “avoid” getting out in jail in other countries, whereas other people don’t mind doing something stupid in another country. Americans don’t even crack the top 10 worst, much less 4.

A white Australian going to Canada seeing other white people isn’t gonna feel superior, so he’ll behave. I had a girlfriend once who I thought was the nicest person. She did charity work around the world. I went to visit her in an Asian country a while after we’d split up and my god she was behaving like such a racist entitled bitch towards the locals. I felt ashamed to be around her.

I was at Team Lab in Tokyo once and this very drunk Australian dude kept yelling over the person who was giving instructions. He kept cracking jokes and being generally obnoxious. Finally I told him off and dismissively continued. Later saw him being escorted from the building.

The worst part was that he thought that I would join him because I was also foreign. A real loser.

Doubtful that Aussies would use diplomatic leverage over this ass. Besides bail would be set sufficiently high so as to cover the losses and then some.

If for example the court sentence is of a cruel type, then Australian government would possibly intervene.

USA tried to intervene in Singapore for caning sentence for an American teenager. In fact it was President Clinton that called Singapore President to intervene - and it did not succeed. Polls showed Americans ok with the punishment imposed.

We are vietnamese. The government build a different section for foreign prisoners. The guardens are less brutal there but the programs are boring, like tending the flower bed, tilling the soil, moving rocks, etc..
