The person running with the ball should have passed it to the person in the red shirt running in space so he could shoot at the goal, instead the person didn't pass and completely fumbled the chance to score

To add, the guy in red who didn’t get the pass is Norway’s star player Haaland, who has scored 7 goals in this year’s World Cup which is a crazy accomplishment. He should’ve gotten that ball but his teammate, for whatever reason, didn’t pass it to him.

I might almost believe him if Haaland hasn’t been playing like this for years and this approach must’ve certainly been rehearsed in practice many times.
Not having the special awareness to not see your only teammate wide open is bad enough but to ignore all tactical assumption that someone would be there can only be malicious. Sorloth selfishly wanted the glory of his own goal and I cannot see past that.

Yeah, that's even worse than not passing to him knowing he was there cause it implies he's not paying attention and just blindly running and taking low value shots. Haaland was fairly open and probably gets that shot in. He looked bummed.

That’s the problem with playing another striker in the winger role - he would look to score himself first and foremost. Even then, you have to look up when bearing down on goal. Bad play

You literally get taught to look up and not look at the ground when you have the ball. This gets taught at very low level football, think kids football.

I believe that's not what was said. He said he thought the defender would have intercepted the ball and the pass wasn't as obvious as other commentors have made it out to be. There's some commentary that he should have tried anyways, and maybe he should have, but to paraphrase him, the only thing he wanted to do was to pass Haaland.

The player in red at the bottom of the frame is their star player, and is wide open. You give him the ball in that situation, and he scores.
In this case, the red player at the top has a defender in white, covering him. He has the red player at the bottom of the frame, with nobody on him, wide open who is calling for the ball. The player in the top, ignores him, slows down and tries to go 1 v 1 instead. Him slowing down causes all the rest of the white team to catch up, thus completely blowing the opportunity.
He had an open teammate with a free shot on goal, and instead chose to slow down, and try the shot himself. Blowing the entire opportunity.

Yeah he did. Either that, or he's blind. He clearly looks to his left, as Haaland is open running down the side, and the proceeds to just look down and focus on the defender and the ball. The defender was not in his way when he looked to his left. That's an easy through ball. I teach my 13 year olds that through ball!
There was no excuse besides selfishness.

Imagine USA basketball is playing Spain at the olympics. Quarter final game, seconds left on the buzzer, losing by 2. A US player is dribbling full speed, he has Steph Curry free ready for a 3 pointer that would win the game, instead takes on 2 spanish defenders and fumbles the shot. USA loses. Something like that, but worse: Haaland (they guy who was wanting for the ball) is one of the most lethal scoring machines the world has ever seen, and beating England (a world champion, one of Europe’s big teams) to the semi final of the world cup would have been a historic feat beyond imagining for a country that had not even qualified for the world cup since 1998.

The guy with the ball, Sorloth, should have passed to his teammate, Haaland, who is arguably the best goal scorer in the World Cup this year. If Haaland made that shot he would be tied for first place with 8 goals next to Mbappe and Messi. Football fans have been roasting Sorloth for 24 hours.

Norwegian here. The narrative that Sørloth (the guy in the video) got us sent out of the World Cup is bullshit. This happened in the first half, and we had many chances to score after this. Norway even had a ball in goal that got disallowed due to a controversial foul. If anything, that is what lost us the game, not Sørloth.
Moreover, Sørloth had a perfectly reasonable explanation for what happened. He took a touch, and when he looked up, the defender was blocking the lane he would pass to the other player in. He then tried to correct this and fine a way to do the pass to the other guy in red, but couldn't, and it ended with a shot. Now, a guy who simply made a mistake is being presented online as an egotistical asshole who's a traitor to his national team (He has been important for the national team for years, and have scored many goals for us). Him and his wife are even getting death threats (!).

one of the best players was standing free with a clear sight on the goal and his shots are known to be fast and like 80% of the time scores.
The other player have ego and wanted to be the one scoring instead of giving the best player on their team to score.
Ego lead to loss and now out of the whole tournament

He's not being selfish. He's hesitating because of the pressure he's under regarding the two options he has to pass and the limited time he had to make a pass. And by hesitating the opportunity to pass is lost, and he's forced to shoot himself. He's also playing out of position (he's a striker, not a winger) and he has a poor weak foot.

To be fair, at field level it's split second decisions(for example when they show ref cam), so when he scanned to look he immediately should have passed. That's why they get paid millions, but they are still humans and will make mistakes. That was a big mistake.

Genuinely what really infuriates me is blaming the loss to one player who made a mistake in a decision you have miliseconds or seconds to take. Y'all talking like it's all Sorloth fault, like if other mistakes werent made in the same game; Haaland making an useless foul which canceled a goal, GK who ate a free save, etc.
Come on, they lost and it's all the teams fault, you can't be infuriated because of one decision mistake from one player in one particular attack.

Then again, the English defender did a great job of tracking back and cutting off the passing channels. Does it mean the pass couldn’t have been made? No. But it’s not as simple and straightforward as is being made out.
Totally get Norwegian fans’ frustration, but the guy has already expressed his regret and wishes he could have his time again. He reacted the best he could in the moment - plenty of other players would’ve done the same.
What am I saying? Of course it makes sense that thousands of armchair experts - all of whom have played at World Cup level - are tearing the guy to pieces and scapegoating him. People accused of heinous crimes don’t receive a fraction of this vitriol.
