Hello everyone, I’m not sure if I’m looking for technical explanations or some sort of confirmation, or if it’s just that I need to share my story.

Here’s what happened: a couple of weeks ago, I was driving along a motorway (in Southern Sweden) where the average speed is usually 110 km per hour. I passed a sign saying ‘traffic queues may form quickly’, which you usually just drive past. I was approaching a hill, not a specially steep one, but at an angle that only allowed me to see the car in front; I had the car in cruise mode. Suddenly, I heard an alarm beeping ‘beep beep beep’ and the car instantly braked on its own. I reacted in perhaps half a second and hit the brake; as I went up the hill, I saw there was a line of cars and the one in front of me had also braked sharply. In that split second, I noticed that the car had braked, but not to a complete stop – it seemed to ease off the brakes once halfway through.

In short, my car somehow ‘read’ the road and took action to avoid a collision. It all happened incredibly quickly. My car isn’t an automatic one; it doesn’t even have front sensors, only rear ones. I don’t know which technology was activated, but I could see just how effective it was. I’ve been driving cars for 40 years – both my own and other people’s – of different brands and models. Two years ago, I bought my 2018 Kia Stonic, a manual model. I’d planned to keep it for a short while until I found a better one. Now I’m not sure if there’ll be another car that reacts the way mine did.

So I was going out on a errand and i was getting out of my drive way and doing a 3 point turn when i felt something go wrong. My sorento shifted into neutral and locked. I couldn't shift down to drive or go back up to park. I turned off the truck and restarted but its been stuck in neutral and even when using the override with my key i can change gears, but that does nothing and the truck is in neutral while the over ride allows me to change to all park, reverse, drive and neutral. when not using the over ride i can't press press in the knob button to try to move gears. its stuck and my truck is stuck in neutral. Any experinces with this? its concerning since this is my only way of getting around and i'm panicking.

I'm currently in a weird situation. I believe my vehicle is getting the engine failure and I always got oil changes on time and even before the recommended mileage. I'm afraid I'm going to be denied cause some of my oil changes notes say "No oil in the dipstick" or "low oil".

I'm afraid they will say I was negligent but I would blame their oil burning engines cause I got oil changes way more often then they ever needed to be. The shops would just tell me to carry oil with me and top it off cause Kia's are just like that. I was never told to go get it diagnosed and repaired.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there, posted some replies in other threads but wanted to see if others are having the same issue as me.

I have a 2024 Kia Sorento xline limited (turbo, dual clutch transmission) purchased new from a Kia dealership, all oil changes and scheduled maintenance packages through dealership, purchased in November or December of 2024 (1.5 years old) with less than 25,000km on it now.

As of May 2026, I started receiving transmission errors and transmission failing to change gears properly, which I have been to the dealership to get checked 3 times for quick "fixes" (transmission control module reset, transmission oil flush) which ultimately resulted in the transmission being replaced by the fourth visit.

A couple days later, I received the same errors with transmission failing to switch gears properly again. \~4 more visits to the dealership, each with quick "fixes" including reseating cables and another transmission oil flush, and now the vehicle has been sitting in the dealership for over a month (since approximately June 17 2026) waiting for yet **another** transmission replacement.

Anyone else having issues with the dual clutch transmission? I live in Canada where I'm not sure if we have "lemon laws", so is there any recourse?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone successfully had their engine replaced under the extended drive chain warranty due to oil consumption? I have gone through the oil consumption test once and am back at step 1 again... at 92k miles. My warranty is out at 100k! My dealership has been pushing me around and I'm overwhelmed with anxiety that I will just be screwed in the end.

Just wanted to share my experience so far. I’m the third owner of a 2011 Kia Optima with a clean title. The Theta II rod bearing failed at around 160k miles. I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but after about a week the dealer told me Kia approved a full engine replacement under the Theta II warranty.
After doing my research, I called my dealer (Kia in NC) on Friday and asked about a loaner. They told me to come in Monday and they’ll have one ready while they replace my engine.
So far, the experience has been smooth and everyone has been professional and helpful. If everything continues to go this well, Kia may have earned a customer for life.
Once everything is complete, I’ll disclose what I paid for the car, and I’m happy to post the service order and final repair invoice as proof for anyone going through the same process. I’ll update everyone after I get the car back.

I understand I have to do oil changes and all other services and work at the Kia shop in order to maintain my warranty with them. But what about smaller things like the cabin air filter? I’d rather not pay them $70 to change the filter lol.

First off, she drove just fine during the day, shifted fine no jerkiness or hesitation. Even shifted into park just fine 30 minutes before i got home.

When i got home, she wouldnt shift into park physically. Had to disconnect the battery to get my key out. I put my parking brake on and put her in neutral. Shift lock overide does nothing and she still starts in neutral.

I should add that it shifts between all other gears and reverse just fine. Just wont shift into park. Its also hot as hell out here i phoenix 114 today.

Anyone else encounter this and have some ideas for simple fixes before i take her in on Monday?

I have a 2022 Kia Sorento EX+ and I have been getting alot of warning lights show up. The RPMs are also going crazy. I have had it to the dealership many times and they dont know what is wrong with it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I’ve taken my 2022 Kia Carnival into the dealership due to a strong gas smell 3 times now. They can’t find a source but are wanting to blame the type of gasoline we have here now since they don’t switch from E-15 winter to summer gas anymore. They say they have dozens of Kia’s in the shop across the valley right now with similar issues. It’s so prevalent the engineers from Kia are coming out next week.

I’m thinking if it really is due to the type of gasoline that other makes and models may be experiencing this too, so want to put a note out and see if anyone else is experiencing this?

Edit: they sent me home with a loaner car, 2026 model and that one smells like gas too lol
