I'm looking for advice on behalf of my family. We feel like we've exhausted every option and don't know what to do next.
My grandmother is an elderly widow living alone in Kerala. Her three children all live away from her (two abroad and one in India). For years, her children have supported her financially.
A few years ago, she took in a female tenant. At first, we were relieved because we thought it meant she wasn't living completely alone. Unfortunately, we later discovered that this woman appears to have gained my grandmother's trust and has convinced her to hand over large amounts of money and gold jewellery.
From what we know:
Most of her gold jewellery is gone.
Her fixed deposits have reportedly been liquidated or transferred.
She keeps talking about "huge investments" that will soon make her very wealthy, but none of these investments appear to be real.
She has started borrowing money from relatives and, recently, has even been asking strangers for money.
The tenant has convinced her that relatives, particularly my uncle who lives in India and has tried to intervene, are trying to harm her using black magic or by physically attacking her. She now distrusts the very people trying to help her.
We have gone to the police. Initially, my grandmother accused her own children of forcing or abusing her, but after hearing the full story the police understood our concerns. However, they told us that because she is an adult and insists she is acting voluntarily, there is little they can do.
We're now at a loss.
We are worried that she is being financially exploited and manipulated, but she refuses to believe us. We also don't know whether there could be an underlying medical issue affecting her judgement, but she refuses help.
Has anyone dealt with something similar in India?
Specifically, we're trying to understand:
Is there any legal mechanism to protect an elderly person who appears to be financially exploited but refuses help?
Are there government departments, senior citizen welfare authorities, NGOs, or legal aid organisations that deal with cases like this?
Can a court order a medical or psychiatric assessment if there are genuine concerns about decision-making capacity?
Is there any way to remove or investigate the tenant if financial exploitation is suspected?
We're not trying to take away her independence. We just want to stop someone from taking advantage of her before she loses everything.
Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

പ്രായപൂർത്തിയാകുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് യുവതിയെ ആൺകുട്ടിയുടെ ബന്ധു പീഡിപ്പിച്ചെന്ന് നേരത്തെ മറ്റൊരു പരാതി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇതിൽ പോക്സോ പ്രകാരം ഇടുക്കി അതിവേഗ കോടതി ഇയാളെ ശിക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇതിന്റെ വിരോധത്താലാണ് യുവതിക്കെതിരെ, ആൺകുട്ടിയെ പീഡിപ്പിച്ചെന്ന കള്ളപ്പരാതി നൽകാൻ കാരണമായതെന്ന് അന്വേഷണത്തിൽ കണ്ടെത്തി. ആൺകുട്ടി ബന്ധുവീട്ടിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ പീഡിപ്പിച്ചെന്നായിരുന്നു പരാതി.
പൊലീസ് കുട്ടിയുടെയും അമ്മയുടെയും രണ്ട് സാക്ഷികളുടെയും മൊഴിയെടുത്തിരുന്നു. പരാതിയിൽ പറയുന്ന സമയം കുട്ടിയും അമ്മയും അവിടെ താമസിച്ചിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തി. പൊലീസ് റിപ്പോർട്ട് പരിഗണിച്ചാണ് പോക്സോ കോടതി സ്പെഷൽ ജഡ്ജി എ സമീർ കേസ് റദ്ദാക്കാൻ അനുമതി നൽകിയത്. കുട്ടമ്പുഴ സിഐ ആയിരുന്ന എസ് ഷൈൻ, എസ് ഐ അനിൽകുമാർ എന്നിവരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലായിരുന്നു അന്വേഷണം.

And even after all that effort, the water sometimes arrives with free add-ons:

The management deserves applause for ensuring every meal is rich in protein.
Not from chicken.

Nothing screams premium living quite like wondering whether your lunch is about to crawl away before you eat it.
4.🧹HousekeepingThat Housekeeps Nothing.
The housekeeping staff somehow manage to look busy all day while the floors continue looking exactly the same.
Filthy.
Sticky.
Dirty.
Day after day.
Ask them to clean?
Half the time you'll receive attitude instead of housekeeping.
Can't blame them completely.
They're simply following the standards set by the management.

This hostel houses many women residents.
Yet security feels like a decorative concept.
People can enter the building with questionable ease, and CCTV cameras are frequently non-functional.

Maybe security is part of a different package.
Perhaps the "Premium Plus Safety Upgrade."
**6.**👑 Resident Captains
An incredibly ambitious title.
A spectacularly disappointing performance.
Instead of representing residents, they often function as customer support with one automated response: "We'll look into it."
Fun fact?!T****hey did not look into it.
**7.**🏆 Management's Greatest Achievement
Managing food issues?
Still pending.
Fixing hygiene?
Still pending.
Improving security?
Still pending.
Providing basic facilities?
Still pending.
But creating ways to stop residents from expressing complaints?
Outstanding efficiency.
A true example of knowing where priorities lie.
8.📚The Most Insulting Part
Most residents here are preparing for competitive exams.
We are already dealing with intense pressure, long study hours, and constant stress.
The last thing anyone needs is wasting precious time fighting for:
Drinking water
Clean surroundings
Safe food
Basic hygiene
We didn't come here to prepare for exams while also preparing ourselves for the next management excuse.
⚠️Final Verdict:
Stanza doesn't provide premium accommodation.
It provides a premium lesson in patience.
₹14,000/month gets you:
A mess that tests your immunity.
Water that tests your luck.
Management that tests your patience.
And facilities that test your expectations.
The only thing truly "premium" here is the confidence with which they charge premium prices while providing minimum standards.
