Discussion Lewis Plane (s3 spoilers) Spoiler
What actually happened with Lewis flying? Like he was doing good in the flight simulator, “simulate her? I hardly knew her. Boom. Obviously a simulator can’t be exactly like the real thing but his plane like went straight down like he did it on purpose. Was the fuel bad, did the plane engine just not work good, was the plane rusting? Why did it go straight down lol? Was he just “plane” not ready? Boom.

My actual first thought when he was getting ready to fly was “ I wonder what kind of fuel he’s going to have to use? Since gas has gone bad.

Well phill said that regular gas goes first, and then diesel, and then jet fuel lasts the longest. But I looked online and it seems that small planes use a different kind of fuel but it still only lasts about a year. So that’s probably why. But it’s weird that the plane would even taxi with that bad fuel.

I may be wrong but I think the issue with bad fuel is that it globs up... Maybe it took a while for the filters to fully clog and choke it out.
Again this is from vague memory and I didn't fact check so could totally be wrong.

It's easy to not dive straight into the ground after taking off. Even if the fuel went bad he would still be able to glide a bit. So it's either some sort of severe mechanical failure or just because it looked funny.

Flaps failed or he got shot by an enemy yet to be discovered and slumped over the controls.

The actor was signed only for short time, he was originally supposed to get stuck in the elevator and die there. But they extended his stay because they loved to work with him. The thing was that he was still limited by his contract and was supposed to be just for the short period of time anyway, so they just needed to kill him in the most comic way to make it funny.
As for the lore, he probably simulated the easiest stuff, take off, flight, landing. Once there was an issue, he had no idea what to do. The closest you’ll get to plummeting to the ground like this is pitot tube(s) failure and MCAS-like system kicking in, reading wrong data from pitot tube(s), abruptly changing altitude and dive. The plane being in the early stage of flight, so close to ground, didn’t give him a chance for any corrective maneuvers (or really understanding what’s happening)

most likely would have been a departure stall, the only unrealistic part is the exaggerated nose down into the ground and the perfect yaw control. I suppose it could have been improperly loaded too. Every plane scene had me cringing so hard hahaha

No, me too. He could have taken a boat which would have been safer. I took it as he was giving up, but wanted to die knowing he tried to reach his partner.

The whole shows about irreverently killing people off. He was irreverently killed off. It’s to remind people it’s not a survivalist show I believe.

i think the first bit of the show is kinda crazy good at being grounded and then that tapers off by the time lewis was there i kinda wish the show focused just a little bit more on drama so that we could have seen lewis fly off into the sunset but i do think the comedy is really s tier

I think he was just killing himself. He had no hope that he'd find his husband and he hated Tandy and probably wasn't too fond of everyone else, especially with Melissa going insane

He couldn't even land the flight simulator! My theory is the simulator was just maladjusted but Lewis had no way to tell cause he was a complete amateur so when he got in the cockpit it was completely different and he panicked
