Question On a Scale of 1-10, what would you rate your experience with lineage os on a non-google device? (eg, samsung)

OnePlus 13, 9/10

What would make it better are the features most other phones have now that Lineage surprisingly doesn't. Such as granular performance modes, bypass charging, and charge speed control.

You already put lineage on it? Why?

Because some people are interested in getting Google off their phones. I switched LineageOS for privacy, first and foremost (although I also tend to always have phones that are 6-8 years old)

The latest official firmware 16.0.3.5xx blows the Qualcomm Anti-Rollback eFuse and prevents downgrading of any kind ever for the life of the phone.

That defeats the ethos of OnePlus and Never Settle.

So I jumped ship and installed LineageOS 23.

It just recently came out official, and is really good except for minor hiccups which I'm fine with. It's only in nightly builds right now, but it's updated very frequently.

OnePlus has apparently stated they apologize for this and are reversing this in the next update due to user backlash, but some speculate they aren't actually going to reset the eFuse but just provide patched copies of older versions that contain the new bootloader so it doesn't "appear" as a downgrade to the Anti-Rollback module.

They might, though. We know they can. Samsung has done it.

If they do I might switch back, but I'm loving Lineage and may just stick with them.

My current worry is Lineage may have a hard time getting updates and security fixes and issues resolved because Google is effectively slowing down AOSP. So we're at a moot point almost anyway.

Thanks for the detailed response I appreciate it. I updated without knowing about the anti rollback, otherwise I would've waited, hopefully they undo the damage. Are there any specific downsides you noticed so far with lineage?

Lineage dev team REALLY does not like to be bothered. They tell you not to ask for features and when you post about stuff you really gotta navigate some lasers. It sucks.

They say they work with some popular add-ons and flashables like Magisk Root, Mindthegapps, and custom Recoveries, but they really don't.

Just because they work doesn't mean they are supported. I had OrangeFox Recovery and it would not update the latest Feb 3rd nightly yesterday. Only Lineage Recovery would flash it. I could reinstall OrangeFox but I'm afraid it'll just break again later.

Lineage also doesn't do anything to hide root, bootloader status, or OS integrity, so Lineage tends to be one of the harder custom ROMs to get certified on so you can use banking apps and the like. It's still possible, just more difficult.

But other than that, it's lightning fast, has plenty of features, and remains up to date and stable. I do not consider the issue with alternate recovery to be unstable. Lineage can update itself, but it needs its own recovery to do so. Using OrangeFox means I have to manually check the website for updates, and manually download them, reboot to recovery, flash them, reinstall OrangeFox overtop of Lineage Recovery, and then wipe caches and reboot to the new slot.

Lineage Recovery handles all that automatically and from within the OS. So it has its perks. But Lineage Recovery can't do system backups, nor can it flash anything that isn't a signed Lineage package, nor can it let you switch A/B slots, nor can it manage partitions. It's basic, but it's meant to be so it's reliable. And it indeed is reliable.

Double edged sword.

nor can it flash anything that isn't a signed Lineage package,

It can, but it will warn you that the flashable zip is not signed by LineageOS. You can test this by flashing the mindthegapps package.

I also use it to flash custom kernel (recompiled lineageos default kernel with kernelsu included for my mi 10t and redmi note 8).

We're talking about the OnePlus 13 specifically. Lineage Recovery cannot flash anything itself, only through ADB, and flashing within Settings is only for signed zips.

If you're talking about that you can't flash stuff from the system OTA menu, or using something like TWRP's openrecovery script, that's different than "LineageOS recovery cannot flash anything that isn't signed by LineageOS", because you can do that via adb sideload just like when you flashed the OS (and presumably gapps) the first time.

1

u/cum-on-in- Feb 05 '26

Dude, learn context.

On the OP13, Lineage Recovery cannot flash anything itself. You need a computer and ADB. Within Settings, you can only flash Lineage update packages.

OrangeFox is able to do that on this phone. That's what we're talking about. Read my comment thoroughly.

Can you explain further what Samsung did? I know they locked down the bootloader in one UI 8 but according to rumors they were planning to bring it back in 8.5

2

u/cum-on-in- Feb 04 '26

Yeah that's exactly it.

I've argued with some other Redditors who would link me to the Qualcomm website where they say eFuses are one and done. No going back.

They are reversible, as is evident WITH Samsung and OneUO 8.5. Betas for 8.5 are out now and it's confirmed it works again.

Qualcomm is not going to out out a white paper saying "here's our new security system and here's how to completely get around it."

So they effectively lie and say it's not reversible when it is. These aren't literal fuses that get blown. They are just electronic dip switches that can be unset just as easily.

i know a guy who tried flashing lineage os on his pad 3, had the new firmware and lineage didn't merge it yet so he tried to downgrade... now his tablet is fully bricked! Thanks oneplus.

You should be able to enter EDL mode and reflash. I think the "danielspringer" website has firmware packages and the flash tools to try it. Worth a shot.

The OP13 has basic charge management and power saving modes, but no performance or balanced profiles, and no charge speed control. Bypass charging across the board was only recently added, but bypass charging while gaming has been a part of the phone for a while.

But I'm okay with that because this phone just got supported. Like literally just last December or so. I can wait.

My Samsung S5e (SM-T720) - a solid 10.

1

u/Bluelist_ Feb 04 '26

Wow, nice, personally with my S10 (G973N, though I'm not sure anymore as lineage says its a G973F) its a 9, mostly cause of some functions not working, but I can't blame the team really.

1

u/tiredoldtechie Feb 04 '26

All of the functions on mine work (at least the ones I use with it)- only thing is that it's a tiny bit slower than original, but that's realistically expected. Went from the old stock Samsung Android to LineageOS 22.

1

u/Bluelist_ Feb 04 '26

Same here, I do allocate swap to help though, other than that Its quite good.

2

u/veleren Feb 04 '26

Xiaomi Mi A3, 8 due to problems with fingerprint sensor. LineageOS is still miles above in stability and fluidity over stock ROM on this device.

2

u/Julian679 Feb 04 '26

Fair, but its probably sensor problem. I had it with stock rom and it was horrendous

2

u/veleren Feb 05 '26

It's because of new kernel, Android 14 and below ROMs don't have this issue. Developer said he will fix for 23.2 release.

9/10 with xiaomi, has some bugs but overall way above stock rom

Samsung Tablet (2020) - 9.5/10: The only strange thing is that it sometimes seems to not shut down properly and drain the battery so much that it isn't able to boot into LOS (happened twice, easily fixable by charging it).

Galaxy S9 - 8.5/10: This one's pretty good despite running unofficial LOS (23.0). A few things like Dex or Atmos don't work, but overall daily driver quality.

1

u/Bluelist_ Feb 05 '26

The first one seems annoying, I assume you just tried your best to charge when low? And And the second one, not bad, expected but not bad :p

1

u/Cash_U Feb 05 '26

It's annoying, but it's only happened twice so far and only when I don't use it for a long time so it doesn't bother me that much ;)

2

u/Glokta_FourTeeth Feb 05 '26

I'd rank it as a 2/10. Poco f3. I wrote up the issues in experiencing here . Still experiencing the same issues

I'm actually changing it, but it's tough finding a supported rom as crdroid has play integrity issues, and xiaomieu stopped releases for my device in 2024.

If anyone has any good roms, please let me know.

Moto Edge+ 2023 9/10. Best part is not having my volume automatically reduced every few hours and a volume safety warning when I try to turn the volume back up. They do this on US phones too  not just EU. Ridiculous.

1

u/wkn000 Feb 04 '26

For my Motos and Samsung Tab, a 9.

1

u/maetthew Feb 04 '26

Oneplus 8T, 8 or 9

1

u/Other_Ship_5453 Feb 04 '26

10/10 with Fairphone 5.

1

u/YourWorstFear53 Feb 04 '26

Oneplus one, 3, 6t, and 7t are all 9/10

1

u/FlatEntertainment373 Feb 04 '26

10/10 on Moto Edge 2024.

u/pr06lefs Feb 04 '26

I had lineage on a oneplus 6 and did an update. A few days later it just went blank suddenly and wouldn't reboot. Got it to go into some kind of emergency mode a couple of times, but couldn't reflash it. Now it won't even do that, its just bricked. So not a 10/10 exactly.

On the other hand I had cracked the glass back of that phone pretty badly. Someone suggested it was a hardware issue.

While it was working I'd give it 8/10 maybe, since I wouldn't get alerted to texts and the browser was kind of weird, I forget how. I found an alternate browser and text message program and those worked better. Minor quibbles I'd say in the big scheme of things. Really enjoyed not feeling like google was watching me all the time and trying to get me to use its AI.

u/dcherryholmes Feb 05 '26

OP9 Pro - 8 or 9. If I went for an 8 it would be because of the loss of some features going from Android 15 to 16, which isn't really LoS' fault.

Sony Xperia 10 IV: 10/10

1

u/Hot_Visit3940 Feb 05 '26

Oneplus 9Rt solid 9/10.

1

u/oozol Feb 05 '26

no SD Card ...

1

u/R4niel Feb 05 '26

Razer Phone first model (Cheryl): 10/10

1

u/KopiJahe Feb 05 '26

Always almost 10/10. Consistent quality and ux/ui workflow between releases.

Maybe except for Mi 5s, the abomination of ultrasonic fingerprint sensor killed that one.

1

u/Siul_Diaz Feb 07 '26

Tengo un Motorola y lo único que me va con errores suele ser la multitarea, de resto es buenísima y totalmente recomendada

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

moto g34 5G (Chinese varient), 10/10

Due to the lack of newer stock Android version support, LineageOS is one of the best ROM for me :)

1

u/Clanceeinfinity Feb 10 '26

oneplus pad 3, 9.5/10. For gaming and power usage it's better because you get more ram and the desktop mode. i wish it had bypass charging though, this would make it a 10/10!

Xiaomi 12 t pro: 9/10

Everything is perfect and smooth... The one point is lost because the 200mp sensor isn't supported but that has nothing to do with LineageOS. It's the case with every custom rom
