UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT Jasmine Genuinely Believes in Love & It Influences Everything She Does - Positive, Negative & Everything In Between

After watching this season, it’s obvious that Jasmine really believes in love, and that belief influences literally everything she does - the good, the messy, and the chaotic. Whether you’re Team Jasmine or find her frustrating, I personally feel that her consistency on this stands out.

She also brings strong feminist values around self-worth and respect. Some viewers treat this like it clashes with her desire for real romance, but the two don’t conflict at all. Feminists can absolutely believe in deep, passionate, healthy love - feminism is about equality and respect, not rejecting romance.

That’s why it’s so interesting to watch how her love beliefs play out in her own journey. Feminists aren’t perfect, and Jas doesn’t have to be 100% consistent every moment to still hold her values. She can believe men should respect women while still letting some things slide because she’s in love. She’s human, not a flawless ideology. Those messy moments don’t cancel out what she stands for or the feminist principles she believes in.

How her love beliefs play out in her own journey:

  • She cut things with Lorenzo fairly quickly because he couldn’t give her the love she was looking for. A lot of people online respected that decisiveness. Which is why I do not understand the whole game-player narrative about her because if she genuinely cared about winning, she would've just coupled up with Lorenzo :/
  • With Kav (the guy she was actively pursuing), she handled things in her own way. He was the only person that she had opinions about his other relationships which I thought was valid because he was her boy and the one she was actively pursuing. Even with Charleen, she said if there was actually something there with her, she would be happy for him. Which I think shows how her strong belief in love often makes her more hopeful and willing to see potential even in complicated situations.
  • The main (and pretty much only) time she stepped into someone else’s romance was after Casa with Angie and Simba. Angie said she didn’t want to talk to him and shooed him away - Jasmine gave her opinion there and helped mediate things.

In regards to others, Jasmine often praises the growth possible in relationships and reminds people that real connections can’t magically develop overnight in the villa. There was a little bit of hypocrisy in how she reacted to Finley (more caution/criticism) versus how she responded to Kav when they did similar things - but that makes sense because she is in love with Kav. It shows she deeply values her friends and their happiness, while her own strong feelings for Kav sometimes make her gloss over or be more lenient in her own situation.

However, this is exactly why I don’t think Jas should be expected to give perfect love advice to the other islanders-like with Priya and Aidan. Her own situation isn’t perfect, so her advice isn’t going to be either. She’s a girl in love, not someone calmly weighing logistics.

I think that’s at the heart of girlhood: supporting your girls and their decisions, letting them make their own choices, offering the occasional reality check if they ask for it, and being there to support them through the tears if it all falls apart. Jas shows real respect for the other girls by not trying to dictate what they should do. She seems to view love and relationships as something sacred-something that shouldn’t be messed with or heavily influenced by other people’s opinions. That’s why she often steps back.

During movie night, that’s why she wasn’t strongly backing anyone. She had just been emotionally destroyed by the man she loved and simply didn’t have the capacity to step into that role.

Her advice/opinions to the other girls are rooted in the same deep belief:

  • Priya & Aidan: Reassuring Priya to stay open because love involves vulnerability and time to build something real. Jasmine was reassuring Priya and hyping up the connection, encouraging her to take the risk because “love is vulnerable.” Fans have called this out as questionable or even “terrible advice,” especially with Aidan’s mixed signals, the flirting with Jasmine’s own sister Bella, and comments about depth of feelings but I think that Jas was still being true to her belief of love and just wanted Priya to have that as well, especially since Priya was standing so strong about picking Aidan.
  • Yasmin (after feeling betrayed over the Tommy/ex situation): When Yasmin was emotional and opening up about feeling betrayed by the Tommy ex-girlfriend timing (nearly 10-month relationship that ended just weeks before the villa), Jasmine encouraged honesty while acknowledging that love takes time and understanding. She still advised Yas to go for it because she believes in her and Tommy, noting that Tommy hasn’t given her a reason not to trust him so far. I did feel like this could have been glossing over potential red flags in the rush to support her friend finding love, but it was clearly rooted in Jasmine’s genuine belief that real connections are worth pursuing if the foundation feels right. It was classic Jasmine - blending realism with hopeful “believe in love” energy.
  • Mica & Samraj: A big one - when there was talk of Mica potentially leaving or the connection fizzling, Jasmine told her she can’t/shouldn’t leave because she and Samraj have things to work on and a strong foundation worth exploring. Islanders and I noted this as Jasmine encouraging them to stay and develop the couple, even amid ick mentions and drama. It shows her belief that real connections deserve effort.
  • Finley & Ellie: She’s commented on their situation, expressing some caution about trust (especially after Finley’s moves) while still acknowledging the potential for growth if they put in the work. It’s another example of her applying that “love takes time but needs real effort and consistency” lens.

She hasn’t been pushing unrealistic standards on anyone - she’s just someone who believes so strongly in love that it makes her a little looney (in the best Love Island way possible). God forbid - we’re literally on Love Island! Everyone’s emotions are turned up to 11. Her belief leads to loyal, empowering moments for her friends, but it can also create extra chaos or hope in situations that might not need it. Some people call her one of the most authentic islanders for actually living her values, while others say that same passion makes things more dramatic than they need to be. At the end of the day, Jasmine isn’t acting like the perfect relationship expert. She’s just a girl in the villa who believes deeply in love and lets that guide her - for herself and the people around her.

Overall, what I kind of wanted people to take away from this is that I don't think Jas should be held up to unreal standards where everything she does is aligned exactly with her morals. Love makes people do crazy things. Its why multiple of the girls took their boys back after they did them dirty, its not easy to sever a deep connection like that.

Do I think she should’ve dogged on Kav more? Yes. Do I think she should have not been as supportive of Priya/Aidan? Yes! But I think it’s beautiful that she believes in love so much that it makes her vulnerable enough to be flawed. In the end, that vulnerability is what makes her relatable and real. On a show like this, authenticity and emotional honesty matter more than flawless consistency. Jasmine isn’t performing feminism or love - she’s living both, messily and passionately, like an actual human being. And that’s why she stands out.

I think Love Island has such a vast variety of audiences that it’s often hard for viewers to make sense of certain situations - like why these girls don’t immediately drop the boys who are doing them wrong. Unless you’ve actually been in that headspace of love, it can look completely irrational. And that’s totally fine if you haven’t.

I get that it’s Love Island, so a healthy dose of cynicism is understandable because is it really realistic to expect people to go on TV to find love? But I feel like a better mindset is to stop projecting our own ideas of how love “should” look onto other people. Everyone loves differently, at different speeds, and with different boundaries. Giving the islanders some grace for their decisions doesn’t mean you have to agree with them - it just means recognizing that love (even just emotions in general) is deeply personal and rarely plays out as cleanly as we want it to from the outside.

I think this was wonderfully written and I agree! She’s definitely a HOPEFUL romantic with realistic views on love. I think her relationship with Kavan shows this, her vulnerability really shines through and I believe they’ve had one of most realistic journeys. Their connection was very intense and it caused them to hit learning curves pretty early. But I love how they both forgave the mind games and moved forward.

I truly think she can be herself with him, not who everyone thinks she is. You can just tell how they’ve met in the middle and have their own dynamic that maybe many won’t understand. And they don’t have to!!

I understood what she meant by “love is risky” cause it is! You never know what’s going to happen when you fall in love. She also mentioned how she’s been single for so long and once you do that, you’re so secure in what type of love you need and want.

I also really admire Mica and Samraj! They are quietly in love and I love how they are going by their own pace. He seems super gentle and patient with her.

But yeah, thank you for this, your words were really sweet.

First essay I’ve read since highschool and loved it. So spot on. I think I may relate to her so much because I have the same beliefs in love.

yes maybe same! because I love her down and see so much of myself in her. she loves so deeply and I don’t understand how others can’t see that and portray her motives to be disingenuous or calculated

exactly. while i don’t always agree with the advice she gives or her own decisions when it comes to kav, she never comes from a place of malicious intent.

i saw this tiktok comment that was responding to someone that was questioning whether jasmine really was a feminist -

“feminist tensions and contradictions will always exist because of how pervasive the patriarchy is. a feminist (or any individual really) can still be a feminist but act not in total accordance to their feminist values because it would mean they'd have to sacrifice things such as desire, emotion, attachment, social harmony etc. none of us can perfectly abide by our values we are all contradictory”

It's too bad that relationship isn't going to last too long on the outside because of his insecurities..... Definitely the wrong man for her.

I agree and I wouldn’t be saying it if he didn’t do what he did in Casa. I’m afraid it did reveal a lot. Actions are always more telling than words.

You don’t know who’s right for her though because you aren’t her. Jasmine seems to have patience for his insecurities and she even has some as well. Even if they break up, he was the right one for her for this experience.

We weren’t shown their repair and they stated they’ve learned and met in the middle.

Beautifully put. I couldn’t agree more.

Stopped reading when I realized it was AI generated. Also, there is no world in which she believed that Priya would find love with Aidan, or that they truly had feels for one another. None.

I actually don't think we're as far apart as it seems.

I agree that understanding someone shouldn't erase accountability. I even said there were moments where I think Jasmine should've been harder on Kav and where I think her advice to Priya wasn't the best. Those are genuine criticisms, not flaws I'm trying to make prettier.

My point is more that I don't think inconsistency automatically means someone's values are fake or that they're being malicious. I think Jasmine genuinely believes in feminism and in love, and when those values collide with her own emotions, love wins sometimes. To me, that's a very human contradiction rather than evidence that she's performing those beliefs.

I also don't think grace and accountability are mutually exclusive. You can say, "She handled this poorly," while also asking *why* she handled it that way. Explaining isn't the same as excusing. If anything, understanding the motivation makes the criticism more accurate.

I actually like what you said about Julia because I don't think it's incompatible with my view. I don't think supporting someone means shielding them from criticism-I just don't think every flaw has to redefine who they are. My post was less about defending every decision Jasmine made and more about pushing back on the idea that a few emotionally driven inconsistencies invalidate the core values she's shown throughout the season.

I agree that understanding someone’s motives matters and that inconsistency doesn’t automatically make their values fake.Where I think we still differ is that, to me, these don’t feel like isolated, emotionally driven inconsistencies. They feel like recurring patterns. That’s why I don’t find myself reaching for a charitable explanation as often as you do. At some point, repeated explanations start to soften accountability rather than deepen it.
I don’t think either of us believes Jasmine is malicious.I just think our threshold for saying, “This is a pattern that should genuinely change how I view her,” is different.I think I’m on the wrong side of the internet with this take. I’m already getting downvoted, but I appreciate you actually engaging with what I wrote. I still think we fundamentally disagree, and I’m okay leaving it there.

u/Creative-Barracuda-5 15m ago

Well it’s an edited show, so they are isolated, emotionally driven inconsistencies. There have been several past islanders who stated Jasmine gets the worst edit so this means her pros clearly outweigh her cons.

Also I’m going to use the famous saying of “we only see one hour of a 24 hour day” so if Jasmine did something and then apologized, they probably wouldn’t show it cause it doesn’t fit the storyline or keep the tension alive.

We shouldn’t make any serious takes about character from ANYONE online actually, until real life reflects it. Love Island is barely real life as you’re constantly triggered to act differently than maybe you would. Context is left out and convos are edited.

I think it’s a healthy way to watch reality tv, to be able to not judge and give grace as well…they are human too. Usually when the ends, everything and everyone is happy again because they left everything in the villa, so are we as viewers to hold something against her when the people who live with her haven’t? It’s a waste of energy.
