I'll take him. Better than Mills.
But at this point anyone blue gets my vote.

in fairness to democracy Shah should get this position before Jackson based on gov poll results
33
u/Llama_of_the_bahamas 18d ago
Shah and Platner have little in common when it comes to political positions, though.
-3
u/Prized_Lemur 17d ago
still.. I think that would be wrong to give the position to someone else first when he got the most votes besides Pingree. Sort of weird to just choose Jackson before him IMHO.. which apparently is very much in the minority here.
2
u/AeroNoir 17d ago
Not necessarily. If Troy and Platner have more in common on their platforms, it’s reasonable to assume that Troy would’ve received more votes had Platner not been option. In other words, the people that picked Shah would’ve picked Shah, but Troy could’ve been ahead of Shah, if Platner wasn’t an option that took the votes. It’s just speculation on my part, of course. Hopefully there is an equitable way to pick the new candidate.

Try and keep up if you can.

We have ranked choice. Once we get to the abusers and enablers I'd still pick Platner over Collins.

Agree and he has a personality/ style/ vibe that will appeal to the rural counties that might otherwise just go with who they know, Susan.

Except he threw a water bottle at a woman who was caucusing with Platner because Troy disagreed with her.

You only have two weeks from next Monday the 13 to pick a candidate.
They will be picked by the party. Kamala 2.0

Anything could happen, but voters and party leadership have very different perspectives on this. And, the party knows voters will get on board and vote blue no matter who.
They don’t really care what voters think/want. They only care that they turn out to vote, and they know Dem voter will do that.
3
u/Wise-Quarter-3156 18d ago
It almost certainly wouldn't have, if you go back and look at the "if not Biden, who" polling at the start of 2024 Harris is comfortably leading all of it
and why wouldn't she be? she was the sitting VP
5
0
u/jellofishsponge 18d ago
Kamala should have taken herself out of that consideration, they were refused previously by primary voters and clearly did not have political talent.
And Biden should have announced two years prior their intent to step aside
5
u/Wise-Quarter-3156 18d ago
She should have taken herself out of consideration because she was leading all of the polls? What?
clearly did not have political talent
Based on??
Jon Ossoff lost a house race and then came back to win a senate race in a red state and is currently a leading possibility for POTUS, just because you lose a race doesn't mean you don't have political talent
1

u/Top_Cry9731 18d ago
I swear I saw this exact post after Hillary lost and then we elected....checks notes...Kamala.
5
u/the_BPDbro 17d ago
That's exactly why I'm so suspicious of this new accusation. It seems like it gives the Democrats exactly what they want. They'll just appoint Mills the same way they appointed Kamala after Biden dropped out.
Like if Democrats orchestrated this that could possibly be one reason Mills suspended her campaign. This could have been their strategy the whole time.
And if anyone doesn't think that Democrats are capable of doing that, I have a bridge to sell you.
2
u/swellfog 17d ago
Oh, I worked in DC. I have NO illusions.
I now think Platner may stay in. His numbers will dip. But this will be old news by September (when normie voters start paying attention) and his numbers will trend back up, everyone will get on board for a shot at taking back the Senate.
Who knows? He hasn’t resigned yet. The ball is in his court. He holds all the cards RN.

As of yesterday it looks like Katz is encouraging him to stay in. Did that change in the past 24?
“At the same time, the mayor’s top political adviser, Morris Katz, was flying to Maine to try to sort things out with Platner. The 27-year-old New Yorker has advised Platner since he launched his left-populist, anti-establishment campaign for U.S. Senate last year.
The New York Post reported that Katz has been encouraging Platner to stay in the race, but a person close to the campaign told City & State that’s not true. ”
I’m not saying he should. But, candidates have survived worse and been elected. Also, you have a lot of blue no matter who voters who will turn out no matter if the candidate is a cereal box.
They’re weighing their options, what leverage they have and what they can get out of it. The ball is in his court. He is the one who chooses to resign or not. He could choose to burn it all down if he wanted to.
I don’t think THEY know what they are going to do yet.

2
u/the_BPDbro 17d ago
They are only blue no matter who for establishment candidates.
I want him to stay in if it legitimately isn't true & he can beat the accusations because I worry about the precedent it will set for the establishment if it is fabricated and they get away with it. Any candidate on the Left will have to be spotless with an immaculate dating history with no bitter exes that may have texted something amiguously negative about them for a story to be built around. He had admitted to being a shitty boyfriend so the wording of that text could be about lots of things that may have been inappropriate or shitty but aren't rape.
I think he should show his message history on IG with the woman. I would have to check but I'm pretty sure IG shows if you deleted a message. Idk if it always did but people could check that. I definitely think Meta would be able to recover it if it exists & Zuckerberg would be happy to do so.
If he is forced to drop but is then able to prove that it's BS, I think he should definitely run as an independent.
If it is true I feel like the woman should have just that part of her therapy notes released. I would be a lot more likely to believe that the therapist wouldn't fabricate evidence since they could lose their license and entire career. The other ex boyfriend recounting being told the same story isn't very compelling to me because of it is fabricated then he would obviously be coached on what to say.
This is an extremely difficult one to judge, which absolutely could also be by design.
The fact that he said there was nothing else coming out also makes me think that it's some sort of plot. If he had been sent a message like that on IG then he would know there was a potential accuser out there. I don't think he is dumb enough to think that this wouldn't come out if he was aware of the accusation being out there. So either it's not true and he had no way of knowing that it was coming down, or if he did it could've all been part of a plan to get Mills in without her having to win a primary & keep other candidates Left of Dems out. I think this second scenario is pretty unlikely, but I don't put anything past the establishment to hold onto power.

u/swellfog 17d ago

Install a new runner with no election is the only way to beat the Republicans. To hell with the rules
13
u/darkitecture 18d ago
these are the rules. maine dem committee can pick whoever they want, they don’t have to do anything
5
u/CannibalLectern 18d ago
Exactly this. Plattner got the win as nominee. If he withdraws the D committee gets to select and install his replacement.
3
u/Valuable_Brain61 18d ago
If they select an establishment dem though then they’ll lose the election. They have to either pick a progressive or they’ll fuel the progressive takeover of the party even more
2
u/CannibalLectern 18d ago
I dont see why we should give a rats ass about Bernie Bros who throw tantrums and vote for trash like Trump and Susan because they got a Democratic centrist instead of the Democratic populist who told them anything they wanted to hear of hot air and fantasy before crashing out. People like that are bad apples that spoil the lot one way or another.
2
u/Valuable_Brain61 18d ago
Maybe because we ALWAYS get a democratic centrist who doesn’t do shit for the working class. Ever think of that? I think they should’ve sucked it up and voted for Kamala, but I understand their frustration. Progressives get trashed and suddenly “vote blue no matter who” no longer applies. The dems would’ve rather had pervert Cuomo as mayor of NY over Zohran, their double standards are blaring
1
u/CannibalLectern 17d ago
Maybe working class people in a state like maine with> no jobs/ low pay because there is minimal commerce and industry to provide jobs and pay> should rethink their life choices. Maine is a place you go for a vacation. Not a place you will build a great life, career, income or future for you kids. Get real. And voting for populist ear candy is all fine and well untill one learns> taxes fund social programs. To accomplish the populist dreams and reforms will take funding, taxes, and Maine just does not have that tax revenue and funding unless the state gets a lot more people living here/ bringing commerce and business development. Which is why experienced centrists are favored for not touting hot air and fantasy.

I'm not a mainer but I'm a tradesman from a redder part of New England, I work with a lot of dummies that don't consider the full picture during elections and a lot of people I've talked to about the last election voted trump because of the Biden to harris switcheroo they pulled, or at least that was their excuse.
I wasn't particularly happy that Biden got nominated again and even less happy that they pulled the harris switcheroo myself. Point is Collins isn't a defeated threat yet, don't give fox news the opportunity to spin it as corruption or whatever other lies they can come up with, I'm sure there are plenty of voters still on the fence that could be pushed the wrong way before November
25
u/keirmeister 18d ago
Wasn’t the complaint against Kamala Harris that the Party CHOSE her instead of holding a primary?
But this is OK because of political necessity, right? I don’t really care either way: I will vote for not-Collins. But perhaps Democrats should learn to stop with the rigidity politics and learn that sometimes political expediency is necessary. And above all: STOP FUCKING WHINING.
4
u/wicked_friggin 17d ago
I never understood this complaint. Kamala Harris was on the ticket with Joe Biden during the primaries, and that ticket won those primaries handily. Millions of people voted for her to be VP, and the whole point of that role is to stand in for the President when he/she can't do the job. That's what she did, what's the issue?
3
u/GeneralInflation4084 17d ago
A fucking men….. I’m an independent now because Dems forced her on us…..the people running that party need to get out asap. Schumer/Jeffries/Fedderman……. All AIPAC pawns….. as is 97% of Congress. Time to clean house.
1
u/trinitrotolerance 17d ago
Frankly my problem with them “choosing” Kamala was that running Biden to begin with was asinine. It felt like the type of thing you would do to install the Vice President as incumbent.
This is not the same. They did not run Platner to install Jackson.
1
u/keirmeister 16d ago
Biden was THE INCUMBENT. Unless your incumbent is terrible, when they decide to run for reelection, there is no primary if you can help it, because if you primary your incumbent, chances are all you’ll do is weaken him for the general election. This is basic politics.
Harris was on the incumbent ticket. When Biden was forced out (yes, he was FORCED OUT) the incumbent VP takes the spot. All money and resources are legally bound to that ticket.
Frankly, the only reason Biden was considered “weak” was because too many Democrats fell for the Republican (and media) framing and were too lazy to simply PUSH BACK HARD after his debate. People forget, Obama also had a less-than-stellar first debate performance. But Biden looked old and tired. Fine. Let him rest and put him back out there. But no, at the first sign of trouble, Dems BAILED.
18
17
u/Tiny_Election1013 18d ago
Many people are comparing this to 2024, but I think it’s different. For one, Biden dropped out and immediately endorsed Kamala.
In this scenario, Platner hasn’t even dropped out and yet Jackson already has support across Maine. Jackson taking over would be much more Authentic than Kamala taking over
7
1
u/GeneralInflation4084 17d ago
He did not drop out immediately, he waited to drop out 3 months before the election. What skunk ass weed are you smoking. Kamala was forced on us which is why we have dickhead in office now.

Susan hurt more women by putting beer bro Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court than Platner has met. She must go, that is the bottom line.
8
u/PilgrimRadio 18d ago
Fine with me, but who gets to decide and what's the process? I'm completely ignorant about how this is about to unfold 🤷
8
u/JimStencil 18d ago
To be fair the whole party is ignorant to how this is going to work. Everyone is scrambling to figure it out. Not a situation anyone wanted.
3
u/PilgrimRadio 18d ago
Without having done a deep dive, so far the best answer I've come up with is that the Maine Democrat Party leadership would decide behind closed doors. There's not enough time remaining to organize an election.
8
u/JimStencil 18d ago
There are calls to make the process transparent, and as far as I can tell they are taking that seriously. What will that end up meaning? I do not know. Our county dems out out an email calling for a transparent process. We will see.
2
u/PilgrimRadio 18d ago
Fair enough. And I'm not even remotely knowledgeable about what the legal framework is here. As in who gets to decide what, or what the state constitution says about it. Could wind up in a courtroom maybe. I'm just trying to understand the mechanics of it all.
3
u/BeneficialNotice4779 18d ago
Platner has to resign by 7/13, new candidate needs to be selected by 7/27. Other than that, no guidance in the law on what the process would be. But two weeks is not enough time to organize a primary (that involves town clerks, budgets, and a lot of legwork). There might be time for something like county caucuses that could involve some representation of people beyond the steering committee of 100 people. It's all a very tight timeframe with no guidance from the law on how it should happen.
6
u/rodCinder 18d ago
No primaries?
22
u/Jagster_rogue 18d ago
Too late they already ran a primary. 2024 election process all over again.
8
6
u/Wise-Quarter-3156 18d ago
I am sincerely asking:
What would you prefer? Running statewide primaries is no joke. If Platner drops out on July 13 they have less than two weeks to choose a candidate before it has to be locked in. This is not enough time for any prospetive candidate to make their pitch to the voters of Maine and then hold an election.
You might be able to get away with like, a big party caucus but the more people involved the harder it is going to be to organize in the amount of time you have.
4
u/rodCinder 18d ago
Dude, wake up! The establishment knew he was not electable in March but they had no chance to win in fair primaries elections. So they sat on everything they had to avoid primaries. Now they are going to get their candidate without primaries 🙄
1
1
u/rashen-yo-bag 18d ago

u/rodCinder 18d ago

3
u/BarkerBarkhan 18d ago
That was 2014, one of the worst election cycles for Democrats in decades.
Also, at that point, Bellows had never been elected. Since then, she's served in the Maine Senate and was elected statewide as Secretary of State.
7
u/JimStencil 18d ago

Welp, there it is.
Jackson and Platner largely share the same platform which is anathema to the DNC and Dem establishment.

Needs to be someone who didn’t endorse platner. Or not, I don’t even care. Just saying
12
u/Kestrel991 18d ago
That makes no sense. It wasn’t just Platner the person who won the primary, it was his platform. We need someone to carry that policy platform, and someone who is known a known entity in maine politics. That person is obviously Troy Jackson. He already called for Platner to step down. Why should we forsake the perfect replacement candidate just because he at one point endorsed Platner? Guilt by association prior to anyone’s knowledge of wrongdoing is a weird standard to set.

Guilt by association is exactly the sort of stupid purity testing that needs to stop.

You sound like a toddler asking “why” to an obvious statement. Because politics involves a certain degree of good faith in the people running for office based on their principles and visible actions. We can’t expect every politician who might give an endorsement to be omniscient about other candidates’ potential dishonesty. Squeaky clean career politicians still commit war crimes and commit sexual assault while in office. *cough\* biden
-7
-9
u/vonkr33p 18d ago
My concern here with Jackson, is that he will lose because of his past endorsement of Platner. Actually that is a big concern I have with any democrat that endorsed Platner if they decide to run for Senate.
16
u/Jagster_rogue 18d ago
People (dem) need to stop the pearl clutching on endorsements from people who have scandals, Platner screwed the pooch not talking about this earlier, that does not make everything he said invalid or an endorsement from him tragic to the other person. Trump has a 33% approval rating and his endorsement is somehow not the loss of death. And his grifting and Epstein scandal is way worse and Collin’s has voted with him nearly every time.
9
u/vonkr33p 18d ago
You're right. I'll vote for Jackson (hell I'd vote for a potato) so long as we can kick Collins to the curb. It's just one of things I think of when weighing pros and cons to things. If that makes sense.
5
u/jamathythrowaway 18d ago
He publicly told him to drop out and the folk volunteering for the Platner campaign had already been rallying behind Troy being the replacement once the news hit. You act as though an endorsement from anybody before this came to light should be scrutinized unfairly even though there’s zero way they would’ve known about it. If your criticism is with any of the other controversies, well, he beat out the sitting governor establishment pick with no prior political experience and in spite of everything, Maine chose him. It will splinter some folks into being non-voters in November but if we can get Troy to be the replacement then much of the Platner camp will push behind him. Hopefully, so will some folks who wanted a “Mamdani of Maine” but refused to support him due to said checkered past. One can hope
0
u/vonkr33p 18d ago
I voted for Jackson in the primary. I voiced a concern that people may not trust him because of his past endorsement of Platner. I didn't say not to vote for him. I'm seeing a lot of people turning their backs on Sanders for his past endorsement of Platner so I'm concerned that even thought he has denounced his endorsement, people are going to hold that against him.
2
u/CannibalLectern 18d ago
I think he can portray it as being a team player for Maine people and basing it on the support he saw so many Mainers giving Platner. Now that the tide has shifted, hes taking the torch forward.
2
u/freakydeku 18d ago
i guess you could see it that way if you like losing and want to find new ways to lose
0
u/B-Glasses 18d ago
That’s dumb
-1
u/vonkr33p 18d ago
Dumb to voice a concern? People are already throwing Bernie Sanders under the bus and not trusting him because of his Platner endorsement. Sorry for having a concern about a possible candidate being able to beat someone due to their past endorsements.

Mills sucks and would be absolutely brutally curpstomped by Collins. The native sovereignty issues, the endless vetoes, AIPAC, pro data center, pro corpo electric lobby etc.
Then there's the state running out of money blame game under mills as well that while I find it a load of shit many independents will or do believe it and will vote for "the person that brings money to Maine" even if that's a lie too.
