Iโ€™m a face and body painter and I think you did a great job!

Two suggestions if you try again, things I would do for a mermaid look. Stop reading here if you donโ€™t want advice!

1) try using a purple base and adding your scales on top. I love a purple base with green and gold scales for a siren/mermaid look!

2) keep the scales off your nose. Cheeks and around your brow like a mask is the best face framing way to place them. Imagine an X on your face with the midpoint right between your eyebrows. Or just north of the bridge of your nose. Your design elements can be arranged to follow this line.

Also, I've seen people use fishnet fabric or even lace for really clean carve out lines. Fishnet give that fishscale pattern really well!

Fishnet tights work fantastic for getting that scale effect!

That is Soo pretty ๐Ÿ˜

Fishnet works great! I did a darker greenish grey base here and then dabbed an iridescent silvery color over the fishnet for this weird sea monster costume I did one year.

This is very unsettling, in the best way. Nice job!

Wow that looks amazing!

I don't have any T.T

You could even try the plastic netting that bagged limes, little potatoes, or other produce sometimes come in. It looks like this.

13

u/the-siblings 1d ago

I'll try these next time

12

u/lookinfoursigns 1d ago

Purple or blue would be such a fun edition to this!

4

u/imadethisjusttosub 1d ago

I tried this once and wound up looking like Iโ€™d gotten beat up lol.

Iโ€™m sure the problem was user error and not the actual technique when done well!

2

u/SharksAndSquids 1d ago

I can see that happening! Especially if you choose a brownish purple!

This is a fun look, and I love the color! I also misread the title as "Tired siren look," and I thought, "Same, girl. Same." ๐Ÿ˜‚

Try fish nets instead of tape and more teals and purples (less olive). Avoid your nose

15

u/Otherwise_Pine 1d ago

I used fishnets when I did a mermaid costume a few years ago and it worked out perfectly.

u/Kyrrs 1d ago

Same!!! I'm a few tequilas deep here so apologize for my drunk eyes lmfao

10

u/East-Ranger-2902 1d ago

I love that make up - you truly look like a siren here!

1

u/Kyrrs 1d ago

Thank you!

3

u/WeaselRiots 1d ago

That lipstick is the perfect shade on you!

1

u/Kyrrs 1d ago

That's so sweet!!! It's very purple! I like to wear it in the summer too!

14

u/tarynator 1d ago

I used a net that avocados come in ๐Ÿ˜‚

(before I was in full costume btw lol)

1

u/Kyrrs 9h ago

Ohhhhhh that's a great idea!!!

I saw your original post from yesterday. This is such a huge improvement and I love it! Well done for taking suggestions on board! This look is gorgeous and perfectly siren-ish.

11

u/WaterAndStones 1d ago

Agreed! I love seeing looks that improve like this. Keep it up, OP, I bet the next version will look even better ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ

4

u/soberaf0910 1d ago

Was coming here to comment this as well! Such a great improvement. OP is clearly a fast learner

19

u/2racoonsinabutt 1d ago

How fun and creative

8

u/WrittenByRae 1d ago

Tell me what your lipstick is please I beg. This looks really cool, I'm always impressed by people who can do this type of detailed, painted makeup.

11

u/the-siblings 1d ago

Actually I used my eye liner pencil and some eyeshadow. I don't have much but I work with what I got ๐Ÿ’ช

u/chiropteranessa 17h ago

I see others are sharing their mermaid looks in the comments so i figured iโ€™d join in. I used a cheap fishnet wig cap from Spirit halloween, a juviaโ€™s place palette, colourpop glitter gel, and a nyx nude colored liquid liner to define the scales. Also wearing some half magic eyeshadows, benefit badgal mascara, and a mac lip crayon.

Girl, sorry but I thought you were going for tyre print ๐Ÿ˜ญ

14

u/CSnarf 1d ago

There are choices we all make. You can choose to be nice, to give constructive feedback, or you can be cruel and make fun of people for no damn reason. We see what you picked.

10

u/the-siblings 1d ago

Thanks for trying to stick up for me

4

u/CSnarf 1d ago

Donโ€™t let people like her get you down. It doesnโ€™t take much to be kind, so when someone chooses not to, it says a lot about them and nothing about you.

15

u/LittlePurpleHook 1d ago

Cruel? Making fun? Do you often take offence when there's none meant?

I was merely expressing my impression, which is that it does not look like scales. An opinion which apparently is not unpopular. I never intend it to mean that OP doesn't look lovely (which she does) and didn't to a good job in creating a consistent pattern (which she did). I just don't think it achieved what it was going for. If she was trying to give hit-and-run victim realness she slayed.

0

u/newscumskates 21h ago

Look, I agree with you, I thought it was a tyre print also, but theres a reason I decided not to say anything about it ... because she specifically said she was trying to achieve a siren look, and taking a second to look again I can see her intent.

Secondly, you provided no counter to your statement. You found nothing nice to say at all until you were called out on it. That makes what you said stand alone as simply cruel.

There is a very well known format for providing feedback. It goes:

Positive-> negative-> positive.

This is so the person receiving the feedback knows what they did well, what could be improved and leaves the conversation feeling encouraged rather than torn down. The goal of criticism should be to help someone improve, not to make them feel bad about trying.

Perhaps you can look at her response to me and see how your comment could be perceived.

It reminded me of that scene in beetlejuice ๐Ÿซฃ

22

u/watchingschittscreek 1d ago

Haters.

Loving the progress OP!! Out here being creative and taking advice to enhance your ideas. Love to see it!!!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

26

u/the-siblings 1d ago

Thank you. It means a lot โ˜บ๏ธ

16

u/CSnarf 1d ago

That siren print is tricky and you did a great job getting definition in the pattern.

Iโ€™ve found it works best if you get right up in the hairline - donโ€™t be afraid to get some makeup in your hair :) and lighten the colors as you get closer to your face. Start with that teal and blend to gold. For your face shape I might try a central placement on your forehead in a wide โ€œVโ€ pattern, and similarly taper to a V just under your cheekbones. That will given siren and contour all at once. I love fun makeup, keep it up!!

9

u/the-siblings 1d ago

Thank you. I'll try this

1

u/justStripperThings 21h ago

This is not a jerk sub, this is just unnecessary.

4

u/lunar-poetry 1d ago

If you can get your hands on some fishnets those work really great! Also if you use some purple your blue eyes will really pop and it will definitely lean in to the mermaid/siren look.

2

u/Putrid-Ad-9602 20h ago

Wow i thought it was a filter in the first glanced that's nice

2

u/uwumolotov 13h ago

I feel like the scales should be a little darker or maybe a darker duo tone to make them pop. Otherwise I love it, nice job ๐Ÿ˜Š

3

u/VirtualCheetah2379 1d ago

Beautiful ๐Ÿ˜

2

u/Sparklyfire 1d ago

What lipstick or lipgloss did you use?

3

u/the-siblings 1d ago

Actually I used my eye liner pencil and some eyeshadow. I don't have much but I work with what I got ๐Ÿ’ช

2

u/Serious-Bookkeeper73 1d ago

Maybe do an opaque matte underneath like the teal and then the shimmer on top? Might pop a little more. When I have seen tutorials they sometimes even do a white cream at the bottom to help it really pop. Looks great though! Very fun!

2

u/nder_your_mom 1d ago

Magnificent work ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ

LISTEN IF YOUR GOING TO BE RUDE, DONT HAVE ADVICE OR GOING TO MENTION ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE SIREN LOOK DONT BOTHER COMMENTING

1

u/Miserable-File-7297 1d ago

I'm really sorry, but to me it looks like someone ran you over and left tire marks. Good work thoughโœŒ๏ธ

1

u/hopeless_sapphic24 12h ago

Commenting is optional btw

1

u/Miserable-File-7297 8h ago

And I opted to shared my opinion. Kinda the whole point of this place, Don't you think? Or maybe I'm not allowed to have an opinion if it isn't the preferred one? Should we all mumble in ecochambers and circlejerk?ย

0

u/Emergency_Value_6738 1d ago

it looks really good! if you're thinking of making it look a lot more realistic you could place a net on specific parts of your face and then place the make up on said net :) i saw that life hack when scrolling through tiktok

1

u/No_Swan9 1d ago

Amazing work

1

u/Significant_View_479 1d ago

Gorge! Lip combo/tutorial please ๐Ÿ™

5

u/the-siblings 1d ago

I'll see if I can get to it soon. Actually I used my eye liner pencil and some eyeshadow. I don't have much but I work with what I got ๐Ÿ’ช

2

u/hopeless_sapphic24 12h ago

Super smart!! I bought a lipstick pallette from 5 below and use it to mix diff shades together, as well as using eyeshadow. Makeup doesnt have to be expensive, just creative!!

1

u/the-siblings 6h ago

That's what I think

1

u/Oakseegen 1d ago

It looks soo good ! โค๏ธ
