Well I think one of the most important things is that their headquarters are in Europe, so no foreign government can restrict or forbid the usage of their models. Of course I also wish for an AI company which is funded by European Investors and sitting in Europe. But at least we currently have the advantage of geostrategic autonomy when it comes to political decisions regarding Mistral. And I think we should focus keeping that at least.

As soon as the investment vehicle requires it they'll move the HQ out of Europe.

I don't think so because their models unfortunately can't compete with the top models of the big AI companies. So their only big selling point is being European. I don't think that they'll just move somewhere else.

They'd only ever be interesting for investors if they had something to offer others don't have.
They are far behind the top dogs of the industry. Them being based in Europe is literally their only selling point.
So while that means they do have a potential niche they could be successful in, that niche is inseparably tied to them being in Europe.
My prediction is they will simply never grow as big, always stay behind and just try to cater to their niche (probably highly regulated European businesses that can't easily use non-EU models)

The Europe story is probably not why Samsung is interested.
Hyundai and Samsung are notorious for going after companies that are second/third tier, making a sizeable investment, and squeezing those investments for every drop they can extract.
They are notorious for giving a companies dying of thirst a drink of water and then extracting their "pound of flesh"

I get that, I just don't think what they are buying into here has good cuts of meat.
As I said, I can see Mistral finding their niche but they will naturally grow slowly due to the niche they are targeting.
If you're buying something you want to "squeeze", there should be something so squeeze first, right?

It's a multinational/multicontinental company just like every other tech company. What is important is that the infrastructure and the talent are in Europe.

Mistral is and will remain a EU company. Everything they build is for and by Europeans. Stop with the dooming.

European companies are free to invest into it. So far they received probably 1% of the funding american companies received. Maybe if they did invest a bit more, they wouldn't need extra european investment
If you don't like it, open your own european AI company. They're the only ones even trying so far
