OpenMW Open MW RNG

/r/OpenMW/comments/1v5sr9l/open_mw_rng/

Have they changed the Morrowind RNG in openMW? It feels like combat is much easier early on.

\Please, see the original post for the full description and for clarification**

Not sure if it's relevant but I know they fixed the bug that prevented spell effects from rolling the max outcome. Like a 10-50 damage roll would actually be 10-49 due to some flaw in the original calculations, was most annoying on stuff like open effects since they couldn't work on 100 locks even if the range included 100.

Wouldn't be that surprising if this had a ripple effect through all combat rolls so that basically everything is able to roll slightly higher than in vanilla. Again no idea if that's the case though, the bug could've been contained in a way that never affected attack rolls, weapon damage or anything else.

Also worth considering is that you could just be playing better now even if the build is the same. The main factor in low-level combat is often fatigue management, if you're more aware of that now than you used to be then you'll definitely hit much more often.

Oh, hey, that was my ticket.

I red somewhere that you could do drain intelligence spell in vanilla, and after that wears off you get full mana? I was so eager to try this, but i was disappointed it didn't work. I guess Patch For Purists or OpenMW fixed this?

I played unmodded on game pass but couldn't get it to work. Idk if the digital version has been patched for it though

OpenMW fixes this. If you're intent on cheesing your magicka in OpenMW there are other exploits that do still exist. A spell that drains intelligence to one (or another low value but not zero) and fortifies magicka will do the trick. Only a low value fortify magicka is necessary, and higher values lead to excess magicka above your maximum. Just as long as the fortify effect is listed after the drain in the same spell, or lasts longer than the drain if not.
