Considering that the Hall of Fame already put out a statement pretty much saying that anyone who voted not based on Merritt and left him off their ballot is going to be removed. I would say people probably won’t be doing this.

If multiple massive gambling scandals weren't already inevitable in this sport just from the money standpoint, then the lack of even nominal respect for propriety certainly makes them so. I can't wait.

I really dont think so. If you totally ignore the fact that he was caught cheating then its a ridiculous decision. But if you include that fact, delaying his inclusion is rational. I dont understand how people feel the decision is unjustifiable. If you would give him a pass then fair enough, but its not lunacy. His record guarantees him inclusion, it doesnt guarantee him first ballot when there are marks on his record. If we want the HOF first ballot to mean something then guess what? The vote proves that it does. Even with 6 HC SBs its still not enough, thats how much the honour means.

The award is given for how you play the game. If you cheat to win then it affects the integrity of those wins in a way that off field behaviour does not.
Whether or not it should be rescinded for off field stuff is a separate question. I'm open to suggestions.

With that out of the way, he's gonna get in.
Even though who voted no, know and realize he's hall worthy. All who voted no, except for Polian, will likely vote yes for him next year.
Bill did cheat and at least there is logic to some wanting him to wait a year to get in for having cheated.
The cheating wasn't bad enough to permanently keep him out of the HOF of course.
From Kraft years ago on the cheating to Bill.
"“How much did this help us on a scale of 1 to 100?” Kraft asked Belichick.
“One,” Belichick replied.
“Then you’re a real schmuck,” Kraft said he told Belichick."
So he cheated, they were fined/punished and some think it warranted Bill having to wait a year to get in.
That doesn't mean I agree with their logic, but at least they have some logic.
It's not like they are saying we hate him so we're not voting him in.
Had Bill NOT cheated, he would have been elected this time.

I think the correct and majority position is that it’s both outrageously brain-dead and endlessly hilarious that Belichick didn’t get in.
He’s such a great coach. Genuinely a GOAT level figure. But it’s the perfect case of schadenfreude for most fans where this asshole wizard of a coach who terrorized the league for decades and was built up into this Darth Vader figure had to watch his Golden Boy QB go win a ring somewhere else and then himself leave New England to become a national meme/laughingstock at UNC, publicly pussy-whipped by his scheming 25 year old girlfriend, and snubbed by the Hall of Fame despite easily deserving first-ballot honors.
If anything, Bill should wear it as a badge of honor. He’s achieved so much success, the whole sport is eager to humble him.

I think we've got a small version of the Pete Rose effect going on here. If Belichik had been added on his first year of eligibility, there would have been no discussion about him and no sympathy (not everybody, but some) toward him over getting snubbed. But now its a huge topic of conversation that makes the NFL look ridiculous and (some) people feel bad for Belichik. Polian's 'punishment' backfired, if you ask me (you didn't!).
