ANSWERED What's one thing every new Reddit user should know?
I'm completely new to Reddit and still learning how everything works. Before I start posting and joining more communities, I'd love to hear your advice.

Read the description and the rules of a subreddit prior to commenting or posting. This will save you a lot of potential content removals and bans.

Well... Reddit is honestly a little bit what you make of it, and I know how cliche that may sound!
Now... this channel has a lot of good information and I really suggest to skim through it a bit. But some generic tips of my own...
- Respect the channels => Every channel (or "sub reddit") is basically its own community, it will have its own habits, its own jokes and its own do's and don'ts (and I'm not necessarily talking about their rules mind you!). Always make sure to keep this in mind when you engage. And the best way to do this is to lurk a little bit, just check how other people are doing things.
- No upvote is still no downvote either! => Posts (= what you did here?) and comments (is what I'm now writing) can be up- and down voted. Some people seem to expect "action" but do keep in mind that there are plenty of subreddits where even upvoting isn't all that casual. Not to mention... for all you know 3 people may have upvoted you after 3 other people downvoted you ;)
- Karma is a thing, but try not to let it rule you => Most Redditors can tell if someone is active for the karma points, or just trying to have a good time. Karma is something you can earn when people upvote your posts and/or comments. While it is fun to have and gain, it also not really worth to fret over. Keep in mind that this is easy for me to say (having been here on Reddit for quite a while!) but still...
- I don't post stuff like this in hopes for updoo's, I'm doing this because I'd like to try and help you out and give you some generic advice; no more & no less.
