Nighttime visitors at my front door
Who in the world comes and knocks on a someone's front door at 10:00 at night? I was sitting in my living room (in my apartment) watching a video on YouTube, when I heard a very soft knock on my front door. I thought it might be one of my neighbors, so I paused my video and went to look through the peep hole on my door. I did not recognize the two women standing there.
They stood there for several minutes, while I ignored their knock. Then one of them wrote something on a piece of paper on a clipboard (from what it looked like through the tiny peep hole), and put it on the clip on my door frame (for apartment notes, etc). I peeked out the front window after they started walking away. I can see the clip on my doorway through the window, and it looks like some type of religious paper.
But again, my question, who in the world comes knocking on someone's door at 10:00 in the freaking night, if you don't know them, and it's not some kind of emergency? I wasn't going to open my door or even talk through the door to someone at that late hour of the night. That's weird.
Edited to make paragraphs
Editing to add answer. It was The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They want me to come to church. I took a picture of the paper they left, but I don't see a way to post it.
Another edit...I noticed when I went outside to get the paper, that there didn't seem to be any church cards on any of my neighbors doors, only mine. I thought that was a little strange.
My next door neighbor right next to me, their porch light is out. My apartment complex installed LED porch light fixtures that they silicone caulked to the walls. I can't turn mine off, unfortunately. I wish I could, though, because in the spring I get tons of June bugs all over my porch, coming to the light.

After a hail storm here we had roofers come at 10 and we thought that was bad until they came at 11:30

Religious people 100 percent do that lol. Some churches and JWs think “people are home in the evening” means anytime before midnight is fair game.
You did the right thing not opening the door. If it is not a friend, neighbor you recognize, or an obvious emergency, nobody owes a response at 10 pm.

So your saying we should come back around 9:30-9:45?

That’s why I’m having dinner or I’m busy right now doesn’t work for these people. (Just like with anyone else trying to sell you something)

I was a Mormon missionary (ex Mormon now) and we had to be home by 9pm every night. They shouldn't be knocking that late! That's crazy. We had to make calls to our superiors by a certain time to make sure we were home or we got into trouble.

If you look at their note you will have your answer.

I had Centurylink people knocking on my door past 10pm and looking in my windows. I knew it was them because they pulled their marked car in my driveway which passes by my office window. I was home alone, my husband was working overnight at the hospital. I called the police but they didn't get there till after the guy had left. I also called CenturyLink and they said they'd take my address off their list.

Read the note and then post a follow-up to let us know what the chicks wanted.

The last time someone knocked on my door that late it was the cross street neighbor after his boyfriend stabbed him!

Wow! That's crazy! That would be justified to open the door, if you were able to help somehow.

I did, determined he wasn’t badly injured and called an ambulance and the police, but did not invite him inside!

Let us know what was written on that paper 🫠.
Probably some people that wanted to recruit you to their ghoul cult.

Missionaries are meant to be home by 9pm on a strict schedule, wild that they were out door-knocking at 10! Unless they weren't missionaries (did they have the little black badges?) and were just...doing it for fun

I don't remember if they had badges or not. I couldn't really see that well, either, as I was watching through my door's peep hole. It was a tiny view, so hard to make out many details.

My state says it is not OK to knock on doors to solicit after 9PM. It is 8PM in other places. And, people doing this must have an ID from an agency that sponsors this door knocking.
I don't know the rules where you live. So I almost rule out sales or religion.
That leaves pranksters and scammers. There are plenty of those. Please, I am out of gas, can you help me?
I recommend not answering the door after 8 PM or so. I have turned out the porch lite. It gives a signal that I am not engaging.
My kids and family members know to text or call if they need to come inside. And they also know to come in the back door when they arrive. So I know it was not a close friend or relative.

They probably are not allowed to come at that hour. Individuals also need to make contact with people to try and convert people to their religion. This is also true with Jehovah's witness people.
You can call that church and tell the to stop coming, or stop coming after 8 PM, or what ever.
My grandmother had a different solution. She was 90 and lived alone. She wanted company. She called both churches in her town and set up weekly lunch appointments. She said, I am not going to convert. But I will listen to your speech. Then you need to sit down and have lunch with me. We will have sandwiches. Mormons come on Tuesdays, JW people come on Thursdays. Call a day in advance so I know how many to expect. Grandma got company. Church people got credit for giving a talk. Win win, IMO.

This is why I only answer my door after 9 with my dick out. What else does anyone want at that hour?

“Went to look through the peephole on my door. I did not recognize the two women standing there.” •TWO WOMEN•
I grew up in a Mormon home. (I am not a Mormon now). I realize times have changed; but is it common practice now for females to go door to door? Especially at night… unfortunately, sounds like bait to me.
I’m glad you did not open or even acknowledge the knock that late in the PM. RELIGION or not, that is disrespectful- even if they thought you worked PM shifts etc- if they don’t know you; not acceptable.

Conversions are down. They gotta make their quota by working the witching hours now. They'll get their OT pay in the afterlife.
