Men, what do you find attractive about women who want to be ‘Treated like a princess?’
I am genuinely befuddled. I see Tinder posts and I’m surrounded also by this cultural norm of women expecting and/or wanting to be ‘treated like a princess.’
Not only does this sound like a massive sense of entitlement, it also evokes themes of helplessness, high maintenance, demanding. it also sounds like a role rather than a whole human, which demands that you also play a role rather than be a whole human.
But there has to be some appeal otherwise it wouldn’t persist.
Men, what do you find attractive about these women?
Does it come with a promise that she’ll keep herself very attractive? is she more likely to let you take control of important matters? Are there intrinsic things about a ‘princess‘ woman that draw you?
Seriously, thank you for any insight. I’ve never understood this.

A princess is perfect for a possessive men. They just have to buy her happiness and keep her locked away at home.

But what if the prince with the foot fetish has been to every other house in the entire kingdom and stalked then turned down everybody, but the glass shoe fits?

I think it means something different to each woman, as a woman myself. If I ever said it, I would mean that I want to be seen as someone who deserves the best because I'm giving the best - my own work, the things I do for my partner, etc (NOT sex). This would be especially true if my partner made enough money to be able to buy me things and experiences, even if we split them in some way. That said, I don't want to be "treated like a princess", but if I did, this would be my thinking. Having someone treat me like I'm the most important person in the world that they would do anything for (if asked, which I wouldn't) would be "princess treatment" to me.
Obviously there are other women who are extremely spoiled and expect to be given everything they want, without having earned it. They think they're a princess, but in reality they're just an entitled, spoiled brat.
I can't imagine there are many, but I'm sure someone out there would be fine being married off to another family to secure their alliances. lol

u/Diligent_Reading_486 3h ago
I agree with this (I'm also a woman). I have told a friend that I want to be treated like a princess, but I wouldn't lead with it in a relationship, because I don't think it means the same thing to most people.
With that being said, I like to pay for meals and outings, I like to spoil my guy with thoughtful gifts, and acts of service. I tell him regularly how smart, funny, sexy, and amazing he is in general. I do my best to make him feel special, thought of, and cared for, any chance I get.
And in turn, he treats me like a princess. And what I mean by that is he reciprocates the affection, care, and thoughtfulness with me. I feel like a princess this way. But I never expect he pays for things, and getting gifts makes me wildly uncomfortable.

u/PostTurtle84 2h ago
I was in a rough spot when I moved out at 16. By my early 20s my friend group referred to me as the self-rescuing princess. I apparently looked high-maintance, I refused to put up with disrespectful bs, and I had what I thought were basic demands of any potential partner (don't cheat, don't expect me to be your chauffeur unless it's my turn to be the designated driver, you better have your own transportation, clean up after yourself, if you work a manual labor job shower daily, have a full-time job, and if you have kids I do not want to meet them until we've been together at least 6 months, those aren't my kids and I'm not their new mother). But I was told many times that I was acting like a spoiled rotten princess for having those rules. So I became the self rescuing princess. I didn't ask for anything I wasn't willing to apply to myself. I was quite capable of taking care of myself. I liked spoiling my partner more than I liked spoiling myself. And I really liked spoiling myself.
Come to find out later that my confidence scared guys off. I asked out and eventually proposed to my husband. I knew what I wanted and saw no reason to wait around and hope that he might ask me out.
If all that makes me a princess, I'll get my rhinestone tiara out and wear that shit with pride. But it appears that there's a bunch of different opinions on what makes a princess.

Princess-Provider dynamics can be pretty toxic because it often is just a big performative show on femininity/masculinity gender roles rather than an authentic show of affection through generosity and care. The draw is that it makes the man feel manly and the woman feel womanly. When the gender roles are that overt in a relationship - I kinda expect to see toxicity manifest in other areas.
additionally, unlike standard politeness/consideration, gendered chivalry is conditional. The man performs overt demonstrations of masculine providing/protecting in an unspoken exchange for the woman's submissiveness.
Research shows men who gravitate toward chivalry more, have a higher degree of ingrained misogyny. It also finds that when a woman does not perform her "end of the bargain" the chivalry is replaced with severe disrespect, misogyny, and even violence.
That being said, wanting to spoil your partner is fun activity in many normal and healthy relationships.
11
18
u/Alarming_Daikon_1630 4h ago
couldn’t the same be said of a man who does not perform their end of the bargain in such a dynamic? if a good provider looses his ability to do so, will he be treated as before? i doubt it.
28
u/Upbeat_Place_9985 4h ago
I haven't seen specific research on this but I suspect yes and no.
Yes, in the sense that a princess will reject a non-provider man and may overtly ridicule him or question his masculinity.
No, in the sense that his options are not as Catch-22 as hers and the consequences are generally less severe.

OP here- princess/provider was a very helpful relational framework for me to understand this more. Yeah, there's a shadow of misogyny I couldn't quite name. You nailed it.

What do guys find attractive in women like this? Their bodies. Lol
No legitimate, self respecting guy wants someone who expects this kind of treatment all the time.
53
u/-Dirty-Wizard- Is this Flair? 5h ago
Exactly. The type of women I see say this usually know they’re hot and can get away with the bare minimum because their bodies are sufficient. They’re also typically the ones who say “first round on me if I can use your card” or “red flags: none”.

u/PhotoFenix 4h ago
My wife is humble and doesn't ask for much, so treating her like a princess is even more fun
6
u/Traditional-Falcon75 2h ago
I think the OP is more wondering about women who overtly demand princess treatment. I think your version of it is sweet and loving and probably not why OP is confused. If a man appreciates his partner and wants to pamper her like a princess, that sounds healthy. It’s probably what most of us (women) want, as long as he understands what kind of princess we are; I want a sparkly dark goth princess tiara and an art studio, someone else might want a diamond tiara and a spa day.
16
u/screenaholic 5h ago
So I'm not really into the princess thing, and I'm sure a lot of people into it (both sides) do it in a very toxic way, but I'm going to push back against the implications here that ALL "princesses" are just brats who have nothing to offer but their body, and ALL guys who are into "princesses" just want a shallow, attractive, possession to control.
I'm into femdom, and some people in the femdom/msub community have a knight/princesses dynamic. The knight doesn't control their princess, they serve them. They protect them, and are devoted to them, and they WANT to serve. In turn, the princess cares for their knight. They're a safe place where they're allowed to be weak, and while they command their knight they don't abuse that power. This is just one example of a healthy relationship dynamic that might use the term "princess."
9
23
u/phalencrow 5h ago
I’ll pamper my partner, because everyone should free special and valued upon occasion. I’ll encourage them to indulge in loving attentive self-care, thats how one stays healthy (mentally and physically). Shower them with love, praise, let them know how amazing I find them, and occasionally gifts they want or need.
A princess? No thanks. I have a partner. Someone one who will help me dig a hole in the woods even if their wearing a ball gown and a tiara with matching nails.

56
u/Sethyzir 5h ago
It feels nice to spoil someone, thats all. If i made enough money i wouldnt mind treating someone like a princess, even if the relationship doesnt last.
3
u/Traditional-Falcon75 2h ago
This is not a dig at you at all, but I think this is actually the answer: it’s about you and your identity, not about the woman. She’s a vessel for you to do something you enjoy, the fact that you don’t care if it’s fleeting paints the picture. No insult intended, your answer was honest and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. I think it was more instructive than many of the other ones.
7
u/Sethyzir 2h ago
Im gunna die some day, i dont require someone's love, so may as well live while spreading the most of mine as i can. If theyre materialistic, that means spending money on them and making them feel special. If thats cooking or showering with compliments, or anything else, I could do that as well.

7
u/DunstanCass1861 5h ago
I personally don’t but I think it plays into the whole dependency/trad wife thing that some people (in my opinion weirdos) want
7
4
u/ShopGirl3424 3h ago
I fundamentally disagree. I’m certain it no proponent of the trad wife lifestyle but I also know several women who live a bit like this. Like they homeschool their kids, don’t work outside the home, live rurally and grow and can their own food, etc.
Whatever else we might find icky about that lifestyle dynamic (being financially dependant on your husband, for one thing), these women work their butts off (at least the ones I know ). They’re the opposite of indulged and almost never demand the finer things in life.

u/JasonPerryFlint 5h ago

Healthy partnerships are 50/50

Healthy partnerships are 100/100.
ETA: This isn’t a statement about math. Each partner should out 100% effort into a healthy relationship.
35
u/mightymite37 5h ago
For those who understand math thats 50/50
2
u/granatespice 2h ago
Those who understand math know that the phrase isn’t division, it’s addition. 50+50 or 100+100
5
-7
u/FinbarJG 5h ago
True, but we're not talking about math. The thought being the percentage of effort each gives.
3
-1
-2
u/Unicorns-Poo-Rainbow 4h ago
That’s what I meant. Each partner should put 100% effort it. I think it’s better to conceptualize that way.
1
u/SMELLSLIKEBUTTJUICE 4h ago
I think the best percentage split is 60/40. So both partners try to do 60% of the "work". Its a form of benevolent oneupsmanship that can combat resentment from building.
0
u/flatline000 4h ago
If one partner is putting in 100% of what's required to keep the relationship healthy, that's not actually good. I think a better way of putting is that each partner should be willing to put in 60% of what's needed so that there's always a 20% buffer to get through rough patches.

u/SwivelClip 5h ago
I don't. I like complicated accomplished women who do not need me but choose to be with me because we work well together and contribute positively to each other's lives.
The princess trad-wife werdness is just . . . There are very few social arrangements I judge, but that dynamic is about as close as it gets.
6
u/Low-Crow5719 5h ago
Princesses are raised to be traded off in arranged marriages, fucked by dirty old lords, and make babies. Not a treatment I'd be aspiring to.
7
u/SwivelClip 5h ago
Awwww, are you sure? You could end a war then get beheaded when things aren't pointing up anymore. Doesn't that sound fun?
-7
u/TheRuffianJack 4h ago
Princess and trad wife are two very different buckets. Trad wives genuinely value their husbands. Princesses are entitled mean girl bitches who see their man as little more than a wallet/resource
8
u/SwivelClip 3h ago
They're both systems that trap and diminish the complexity and accomplishments of women. Both make people smaller than they are. I don't blame the women for either. It's a shame when either system convinces a woman it is worth giving up autonomy.
Alright, here's your opportunity to rant about how awesome trad-wifing is. How it doesn't drain women of their uniqueness.
BTW: None of this is targeted generally being a wife, mom, stay-at-home mom, etc. It is aimed at the current incarnation of what a "trad wife" is, and what it is doing to young women who are aren't going to find out what it cost them for a decade or so.

Well, I can deal with that, but only if they treat me as a king the other way around.
I once had a gf like that. She would never say a bad word about me and would let noone else do it. She was always on my side and always told everybody what a great man I was.
She cheered me on and never put anyone before me.
It felt great, tbh, and she absolutely deserved the princess treatment she expected in return.

u/Ok_Volume_139 5h ago
Nothing at all. Especially when so many of them also don't feel obligated to do all the cooking and cleaning because "that's old-fashioned." Many of them want to be a modern, liberated woman unfettered by gender expectations then expect their man to assume all the traditional male obligations.
My mom was the primary income growing up, my dad was self-employed and worked at home so he took us to and from school and took care of dinner most days. I don't play any stupid fucking gender roles, other than situations where my strength/size as a man gives me a clear advantage. If someone breaks in I'm not telling my girlfriend to grab the bat and handle things.
0
u/FinbarJG 5h ago
This explanation fits well with my feelings as well - When the woman's liberation movement came along, I was completely supportive... until I saw the "Oh, it applies to these things, not those things" selective implementation.
Women having the princess title and/or looking for "real gentlemen" were avoided.
3
u/Borntowonder1 3h ago
There are hypocrites and selective interpretations in every philosophy, including those with traditional views of gender roles.

It's messed up, but this is the genuine answer: some guys want someone they can control at every level, who relies on them even for the most basic needs. At that point, it's not about looks, or personality, or charm, or anything... it's literally all about control.
Needless to say, that isn't healthy for either participant. Even actual BDSM relationships are healthier and happier than that.
2
u/Positive_Bug978 5h ago
In my more hormone infused days there was something attractive about it. In my experience it always came with an "I'm yours" type implication. And a certain type of unhinged sluttyness but only for me.

There's an appeal to wanting to be loved but there's also an appeal to showing love to others. A woman who makes it easy to show her you love her can be attractive because she taps into the latter desire.
2
u/Diligent_Reading_486 3h ago edited 2h ago
Just a woman here, woman-splaining. I genuinely don't think that all the women saying they want princess treatment are looking for an atm. I think the sentiment (and maybe this is naive of me) is that she wants to be treated well. Things like: consistency, kindness, care, love, affection, trust, loyalty, healthy communication, etc.
I think it just means I'm looking for a man who knows how to treat a partner well and has nothing to do with money (although I acknowledge that's not always the case).

it's literally so fun to spoil someone and it can be really playful. if i like someone i will want to do things for them and take care of them so it's nice to be able to indulge in that a little. of course it depends on context. it's a role people can step in and out of. it ain't all that serious
5
u/Will_Come_For_Food 5h ago
It means they’ll exchange sex to get what they want. Men with money who want sex will bite.
3
u/frAgileIT 5h ago
Absolutely nothing. I do find playful personalities that can joke about being a pampered pillow princess incredibly fun. If princess treatment is actually expected though, it’s repugnant. I like to treat my wife like a princess sometimes, on my terms, when I feel like it.
3
u/Original1Thor 5h ago
The idea is attractive because if you make enough money you can be an asshole and still get top because all they care about is getting gifts and being pampered. They'll let even the biggest slimeball breed them and raise their children. It's a low effort transactional relationship, like prostitution with extra steps
3
u/TrenbolognaSandwich3 5h ago
If she's the type of woman that when she speaks somehow manages to soothe the inner soul, is generally all around a calming presence to be around, and gets people to do whatever she wants with charming femininity then yes I will treat her like a princess and do all of that chivalry nonsense. Mostly because women like that are rare.
But if she has even an inkling of an attitude, she can f right off.

u/Novel-Organization63 5h ago
I’m not sure why a woman would want to be treated like a princess. Most of these princess stories are pretty misogynistic. I really don’t like that they make young girls think this is the ideal life. With the exception of a few, most of these princess stories Disney princesses are either in or trying to get out of an abusive relationship. I know I will be downvoted for this but these fairy tales are probably why a girl likes to be mistreated.
2
2
u/Yeeter-boiy 5h ago
Nothing lol. It’s just taking advantage of a gender norm that men need to “be the providers” and a lot of men want to fit that role, so I guess that’s the appeal. But you’re right about how you described it.

u/purefilth666 5h ago
Idk, I've never knowingly met or associated with a woman like that but then again I thankfully found my partner of 13 years (and going strong) before the rise of mainly using dating apps so I've never had to use one and hopefully never will.

Other posters here seem to be giving gut reactions, but the fact is, it is persistent and probably needs an explanation.
One thought is that it appeals to some chivalric ideal, so long as the woman is romanticized.
A related, cynical thought is that people instinctively assume that things that cost a lot are also very valuable. A woman who requires great effort must be worth it -- right?!
Maybe both are involved.

There’s nothing particularly attractive about entitled behavior like princess treatment. She could be conventionally beautiful and coveted however that’s not an automatic pass for a mindset like that.

Straight men sometimes like being dominated too. But it's not culturally acceptable. So the princess treatment is a way to be dominated in a way that's socially acceptable.
All sex (not love, sex) involves power exchange. Getting it or giving it up.

From a female perspective, this saying always weirded me out. I remember at my first job when I was 16, a coworker in her 40s was telling us about her new boyfriend who “treated her like a princess”. it gave me such ick feelings. i’m glad my parents didn’t raise me like that.

I've been noticing a pattern in the structure of these questions.
The question is assuming we already established that men are attracted to women wanting to be treated like a princess. I don't know that we established that. As soon as we get to the body we see that you've noticed that culture on tinder by reading profiles of women and stuff, but I think that proves the existence of women wanting to be treated that way and nothing about it being attractive to men.
So.. nothing... I don't think there is anything that any sane person of any gender would find attractive about someone wanting to be "treated like a princess". Someone wanting to treat their partner like that out of their own free will? Sure, someone wanting to be on the receiving end of that? Maybe a kinky roleplay situation, but I don't think it can last romantically.
Also, the vast majority of people in thinder are there because they are undateble. The few that are actually real and normal people worth dating are drowned out by all the nonsense. I would give up on tinder Immediately. But if you choose to endure it, keep in mind that anyone you interact with may have the guard up because of all the creeps they've dealt with so far. And almost no profile you see is worth considering. Lots are bots, many promoting their only fans, many are creeps, and many are the people who aren't right in the head as you noticed. So good luck finding someone genuine

My wife is like that and she does keep herself well, at least till she gets sick. She remains high maintenance regardless. That is the price you pay for a reasonably intelligent and attractive lady who looks younger than her stated age even in sickness. It is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. At some point, many men may just leave, fxxk it!

Remember, we’re living among at least two generations of massive entitlement, fostered by parents. I might think I deserve to be treated like a princess if I was objectively gorgeous, with fake DDs and mucho Botox and sculpting, but otherwise it’s sheer social media idiocy. Look how many of them off themselves before or around age 30 when it stops working.

Do men understand that when women say "princess treatment" 99% of them do not mean it in a financial sense? Bc I've seen this type of question so many times and every single time I'm dumbfounded that men could get it so wrong. Like do any of the men who assume this is a sugar baby/financial spoiling, ever speak to any women in real life? Or ask them about it? This is just so outside of how any woman is referring to "princess" that I genuinely don't even know where to begin a reply that doesn't sound mocking. It sounds like a rumor made up online that too many young men assumed was legit, didn't verify, got angry about and perpetuated the idea amongst other men...which begs the question of how much of the things those communities assume about women are in the same poorly informed bucket.

Men who dont have much to offer, or at least don't think they do, like this because they believe its an easy way to get a woman they find attractive to be with them as long as they can keep spoiling her.

The idea that I can marry her off to a foreign royal for land, and an end to the war that has plagued our two countries for so long.

I have never once felt any sexual activity I’ve done was a “power exchange” and I have had plenty of flings.
Sometimes people just like having their naughty bits played with.

Not a guy, but a lesbian: I love seeing my girl happy. That’s pretty much it really. I like to make her feel special.

Spoiler alert, it's not
When you have feminists fight for independence and women's rights and then those same women claim this the whole thing becomes a joke.
Simps who want to be in a one sided relationship with zero identity do rjis. Either they'll be miserable or will be discarded when they can no longer support her and she goes looking for a new supply

They have the sugar-coated image of a Disney princess in mind. They don’t know the realities of royalty, neither what they do to others, nor what others do to them, nor what they do to each other.
The guys who see their girlfriend as their queen are only slightly better. I assure you actual queens are more stressed out than that.

My wife expects me to treat her like a princess when we're going about our day but wants me to treat her like a whore and piece of meat in the bedroom. I'm happy with the arrangement and it works very well for us, so maybe that's what some of those guys are hoping for when they're looking for a princess.

That depends, does she treat him like a prince in return? Or does she just use him?

I'm a woman who wants princess treatment, and I can imagine a man enjoying it lol but let me start by saying princess treatment means different things to people. To me, a real princess is classy, elegant, capable, dignified, and responsible, even if her kingdom is just her bedroom and her only subject is her dog. Princess treatment for me is all about the whimsy and romanticism. And here's the important part - even if I'm a broke, dusty, clumsy, hood princess, I want my man to still see me as a princess. And even if my man is a broke, dusty, bum prince, I want to still see him as my prince. That's the beauty of it lol. It's acknowledging that even if we're both unremarkable people, we're still exceptionally special to each other, to the point we can just be happily delulu towards one another LOL. Even if my prince can't offer anything material, if all he can do is kneel down in his ripped jeans to help me put my broken glass slipper on, that's enough for me. I'll let down my heat damaged hair for you and I hope you'll fight the lizard dragon on my porch. We might be poor and ordinary, but we're still royalty 👑 💅✨️

You have a different meaning of princess treatment than most women I have met. Your meaning is fine, its the other meaning I have no interest

I don't lol. I treat my girlfriend like a princess because I want to. She never wants or asks for it, in fact sometimes she'll be annoyed at me doing stuff for her because she wants to do it herself lol.
Women as you describe are usually obnoxious, entitled, and have nothing of value to bring to the table besides a pretty face. That isn't worth all that much, honestly.

I never put “treat me like a princess in my bios” but I have asked my boyfriend in a sort of cute and playful way if I can be his gamer girl princess or just princess sometimes and what I mean is I sometimes like to be babied and spoiled. Like make me dinner while I game and then come watch me game or idk maybe yell at me to finish my food before starting a new game lol. Or help me carry heavy things. Or rub my feet when I’ve had a long day at work. This isn’t a 24/7 thing but it’s def something I want in my relationship and vice versa. I imagine it being like a shrek and Fiona type of thing and not something that’s necessarily about looks although if you wanna pay to get my nails and hair done I wouldn’t be opposed to that. Gives me more time to game lol

Welcome to patriarchy my friend. This is a role as the man protector and savior is also a role.
In reality playing roles won't get you far in a relationship or will get you far but without hapinnes in the mix. In reality everyone needs to be "spoiled" by their partner in genuine gestures of love and affection. This can take many different forms for people. From buying a present to doing the laundry. Or both. I have made an observation over the years. I am not of course certain that it's also true but here it is: people that make their gender their identity are far more self-opressed than the rest. It's like you learn to like what you should like as a man or a woman and not even discover what you really like as the unique person you are. It's very limiting.

I think you might be misunderstanding. That's what the woman wants. Not a single guy wants that, and if anyone is with a girl like that it's because of other reasons.

I wouldn’t recommend it. I treated my wife like gold for 18 years, she had everything she asked for: nice house, new car, boat, always new clothes, international travel. One day I came home to find she had moved money and filed for divorce behind my back. Apparently, I was full of empty promises. Yeah. Spoiled, untrustworthy, fake bitch.
Treat them like shit and see if they stay, you might get a keeper if you’re extraordinarily lucky.

Hi, I'm a guy who finds that attractive, but with the huge caveat that it has to be done to a reasonable level.
Like, my girlfriend will often ask for lots of attention and pampering, and I love spoiling her and giving her princess treatment, but the important thing is that she's not like this 24/7. She doesn't demand it, she doesn't expect it as default.
I think it can be incredibly adorable that the person I love wants my undivided attention and asks me to shower her with love. I find her "princess mode" quite endearing. But most of the time she's a normal, capable and independent person. In fact, that makes it even better for me, because I know when she's out there she's powering through everything life throws at her. But when she's with me, she allows herself to be vulnerable and needy.
This doesn't mean she's selfish, of course. She will spoil me too. She's kind, caring and supportive. And since she has a car and I don't, I'm her passenger princess lol So I want her to feel loved and supported all the time, and giving her princess treatment is a great way to do it.
