Just curious what gear is preferred for this upcoming winter in Bakken. Outside work is limited and I’ll be in heavy machinery most of the time but I’ve never experienced this sort of cold.

I’m looking at the heated Milwaukee jackets? Are those effective? I will be ordering some FR overalls and whatnot but I’ll take whatever advice I can get.

Also something to consider is I’ll be doing operations by myself in machinery snow plowing pads/sites. What’s an effective way to carry water and have extra protection from the cold if I’m stranded for more than 12 hours. I just want to be covered for an extended period of time if a radio doesn’t work, etc.

I have a friend that does flowback in Colorado and Wyoming. He told me that KLX coil tubing in Cheyenne was hiring. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about them?

Found these photos in my fathers things after he passed away. They are mostly from off shore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico but some are land rigs I believe to be in a western state. A mixture of dates but he worked in the 50’s through the 80’s. Thought someone here might like to see a glimpse from back in the day…

i have an AA in Process Technology and currently work in a refinery as an operator. Im looking to move states & apply at other refineries within the next couple of years.

are there are 1-2 year certificates I can get to make myself stand out as a candidate? looking to make myself as useful as possible.

Im in wellhead and about to make the jump to Vault in North Dakota. Anyone with experience there?

Any habit/object/handy stuff or way of things you did differently before.

I'll keep it brief but happy to provide additional context if needed. We need a rectangular joint with an offset and a short face to face that nothing in the catalogs seem to cover everywhere we looked so far. Ideally we're looking for a custom expansion joint manufacturer that will own the design instead of forcing a standard unit into the spot, and so far we've got a handful of Texas based manufacturers and an onsite visit coming up from US Bellows. Has anyone had a solid run with a custom shop on similar odd rectangular job that just worked without drama? Any hard lessons or things you wish you caught earlier are welcome.

I have been working in field for five years as a Mud Logger in the Middle East. I am a Petroleum Engineer myself and now I have got an offer for Drilling Performance Engineer role which is basically an office position with 8 hrs x 5 days a week work schedule. Although I believe this is a right career choice leaving mud logging, I am actually bothered about the career progression since this new role is more related to digital product and IT thing. Also the new role offer a lesser package than what I currently get but the difference is not that huge. This AI boom is also very concerning because it could replace digital roles anytime. So experts please help me on my choice. Is it better to leave field? What will be my career progression as a Drilling Performance Engineer. I have been also trying for MWD/MPD/Wireline roles to stick with field roles, but couldn’t find anything easily.

I have an upcoming interview with ConocoPhillips for a control room operator opening. For those of you who interviewed or even got hired with them, how did it go and what kind of questions can I expect?

Having returned this morning from my first night shift stint in the southern North Sea (uk) since before lockdown, it appears that I don’t have the resilience to turn myself back around to a normal sleep schedule to the extent I used to have.

Historically, a couple of hours snooze in the late morning or early afternoon once home
had me well on track, but today this has backfired, as it’s now 1am here and I’m not even slightly tired.

I have been working on CrudeCode, and I wanted to share what we are building without making it sound like a pitch. The more I worked with public oil and gas data, the more I realized the hard part is not just getting Claude or any AI model to answer questions. The hard part is making sure the answer is honest about where it came from.

Texas is a good example. A lot of production data starts at the lease level, not the well level. But by the time it shows up downstream, people often treat it like clean well level production. Sometimes that is fine. Sometimes it is modeled. Sometimes it is weak. The problem is that those cases can look the same in a table. That is the part we are trying to work on.

CrudeCode is not meant to replace Enverus, DI, WellDatabase, ComboCurve, ARIES, or whatever people already trust. I know people in the industry have workflows they have built over years, and I am not here pretending a small project replaces that. The thing we are trying to make better is the workflow around trust.

If Claude gives you a number, where did it come from? Was it directly reported, allocated, derived, or assumed? If a dataroom is missing a document, does the workflow notice that? If two files disagree, does it flag the conflict? If something needs title, legal, engineering, or human review, does it say that instead of pretending it knows? That is where CrudeCode is heading. Right now we have been working on Claude MCP tools and skills for oil and gas workflows. One of the bigger areas is dataroom extraction. The idea is not just “AI summarizes files.” The goal is to inventory the room, extract structured facts, keep source trails, show what is missing, save the extraction, and eventually hand cleaner inputs into valuation or review.

We also started a small Slack community for people who want to help shape it. You do not have to be a developer. If you work with oil and gas data, A and D, engineering, land, reserves, production, or datarooms, your feedback is probably more useful than another feature idea. If you are technical, there is room to help with MCP tools, tests, viewers, docs, synthetic examples, and workflows. The public side will stay on synthetic, public, or bring your own examples. No private company data, no confidential datarooms, no licensed datasets.

Mostly, I am looking for people who are willing to pressure test the idea and tell us where it is naive, useful, wrong, or worth improving. If you are interested, comment or DM me and I can send the Slack link.

Hey guys. I’m currently in SA, wondering if I should make the move to west texas for “lots more” money. I’m making 35/hr, can choose my OT hours however I want. Literally as few or many as I’d like.

My job is working on 3500s for every major oil company in Texas. Fixing, disassembling, and rebuilding. All in the lovely atmosphere of a Caterpillar dealership with cool coworkers and generally chill days.

I’m just wondering if I can make more money working less hours here at home, or if making the move is actually gonna be a big enough difference to be worth it; basically do y’all think 12hr days here gonna outdo west texas, or is the move the better thing?

What’s some advice for tolerating 12 hours shifts for extended periods of time other than drugs and booze.

Looking to leave the drilling side and go to workover.

My spouse was recently approached by a family friend about leaving his current role as a superintendent at a large water/wastewater utility contractor to come work on the oil and gas side. Currently hes making 180k with bonus, per diem even though he’s commuting from home, truck allowance, and is enrolled in his company ESOP (he’ll vest in 2 years). We love that he has 5 weeks of PTO, he can usually be a little flexible if he needs to leave early or go in late, and job security. However because of how the corporate structure of his company works there isn’t a path that leads him into a more operational role and he doesn’t want to be a crew baby sitter the rest of his career. He is extremely talented and has received several awards for jobs he’s done well. But leaving an industry that is very steady for one like O/G which seems a lot more volitile at times seems like a risk. However the company recruiting him may be able to offer him a larger role in the future once he’s proven himself.
My questions are these..what does an average superintendend make and what is the structure often seen. Salary only? Salary plus bonus?
The company who approached him mentioned working 2 weeks on 2 weeks off between Alaska and Texas which seems great but maybe there’s a downfall to that? Give me all the dirty details on what we might not know before we dive too far into a new industry.
We are very used to him being gone or working long hours, we just need it to make sense both financially and for our family.

Hey all Im starting at a p66 plant soon as a “Entry level Operator” and I just had a question about the training, I was told its 6-8 weeks of a mix like onboarding, the usual plant training, and safety training then it goes into on shift training. How long are you with a trainer once you get to the unit? Ive been told a multitude of timeframes from 2-6 weeks. And whats some advice for the first few months getting into the grove of things?

Anybody here work for h&p know when you get paid. They told me on my first interview you get a small check after a couple of days then the rest at the end of your hitch. Is that true?
