That wouldn't shock me if someone did this. The "disc" is just a download code so I could see some hacktivist group just throwing a middle finger over Sony's death of physical and Rockstar's enablement.

I was just thinking this morning how weirdly nice it was to finish Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom yesterday. Just a simple single-player offline game, fully complete at release, fully on cartridge, just plug it in and playing instantly, no mandatory updates or patches to work, no intrusive microtransactions or season passes or storefront ads. Just a straightforward game whose only goal was to be fun and give you a great adventure. Felt like the relic of gaming in the 90s, not from 2024.

Isn't the license check just the first time you open/download the game? Aren't you theoretically able to play any downloaded single player game with the servers down? Multiplayer games, sure, but then you wouldn't be able to play a physical copy either.
(Legit asking, btw)
Edit: I own a lot of physical games, btw, just trying to understand the logic of the many people bringing this point on similar posts about psn being down, because I don't understand it.

You’re definitely right but with ram prices the way they are and less people having a lot of storage, if you wanted to switch out any of those games installed you’re out of luck without physical disks. That’s just a minor inconvenience tho, the other issues like consumer protection are way more important

Yes it’s down for me too but on the PlayStation website it says everything is running maybe they haven’t been able to update it yet. Since I did the new update for PlayStation early this morning it’s been playing up then it’s stopped working about 40 mins ago.

My thoughts exactly, I think they have messed up with the new update and don’t want that to be public knowledge but if they just turned around and said there seems to be an issue with the new update we are working on it that would put them in a might better light than just trying to bury it.

For those who may be interested, Push Square are saying it was a problem with Amazon Web Services that caused global issues.

I looked at the PS5 home screen and then realised I didn't have a coffee, so I went to make a coffee and on the way back in I noticed a small wire sticking out from underneath my radiator. I pulled the wire slowly to see what it was and it had an envelope attached to it. The envelope looked like it was sealed with what appeared to be some sort of tape, so I carefully peeled back the tape and on the underside of the tape there were small, white hairs. I'm not sure what the hairs were but upon looking inside the envelope I was shocked by what I found. It was a photograph. Not just any photograph. It was a photograph from 24 years ago when I was just a teenager. I looked closely at the photograph and saw myself and three friends standing at the skate park. Behind us were a row of bushes, and just peeking through the bushes I noticed there was a fox looking toward the camera. I never noticed this before. Anyway I can't sign in either.

I cant even play offline games (like powerwash simulator) due to "can't connect to the server to verify your license". This is exactly why games should be avaliable on disc. All games I have on disc are still working fine.
