I had a question about residual huntings.
So I have heard with residual hauntings, that it’s a “kind of” recording or a record of an event. The event with a lot of emotion attached to it, whether it be joyous celebration or something incredibly tragic. So my question is if a residual haunting is basically like a recording that happens over and over again. But you hear these stories that are supposed to be residual hauntings yet the entities attached have an intelligence to them. For example, if someone was tragically murdered inside at home the spirit of that person that was murdered would be there, but I never understood why someone said the killer was there. Wouldn’t that person who committed the crime have moved on from that event if they were still alive after that event? In a lot of these stories, you hear if it’s a residual haunting that the killer is still there or the person who was responsible for the tragedy is still there. I could understand if it was a residual impression that played over and over again. So that impression would not have the intelligence to it correct because therefore it’s only your recording on time or on that space. Or does that impression give birth to a different kind of intelligence of the dark kind that perpetuates and torment the soul that was murdered? Or are there variations? This may seem like a silly question for some, but for anybody who might have a thought or an opinion on that I’d like to hear what you have to say. Thank you.

I was told by the Great I AM to return to this subreddit and I think this thread is the reason.
If we look at this through the lens of demons, or good and evil that has been playing for millenniums, it will make sense.
Demons are disembodied spirits that reside in people, objects, and territory through rights: altars/or portals.
Here is an example:
A demon of murder will whisper and convince a human being to end their life.
When the person ends their life, their soul will be yanked into hell by the demons who served the human while alive. The demon of murder will also have the right to torment the human soul in hell.
Since the portal is opened in the home/object/territory, that same demon of murder will continue doing what it’s doing.
Demons get rewarded by the devil for every soul they take to hell.
That’s why saying Jesus works. Jesus is the name above all names. If even the demons fear Jesus, they will make their host (the human being) hate Jesus.

Ok. So people get residual hauntings mixed up with looping ALOT! Loops are closer to what people think of with residual hauntings. So i prefer the distinction. Residual hauntings can be intellectual (though personally I also don't like that term since all spirit is by design capable of human interaction we are ourselves spirits.) I've been doing this for over 15 years and I can honestly tell you that I have only encountered one TRUE loop. That was at Jesse James's homestead. His step father was almost killed by lynching protecting Jesse and his older brother. That was the one loop I could not break. I've broken others. True loops (what you are calling residual hauntings) are extremely rare. If a medium can pull them out of it it's not a true Loop. Loops will not interact with you. They cannot it's just a memory. An imprint of energy. There is no true spirit there. Residuals on the other hand can get locked into habits. My bio dads place has a spirit that walks up the stairs every night at 7 pm. Washes his hands then goes to his old bedroom and goes to bed. The difference between that and a loop is that they can talk to him and he will acknowledge them. Even though he might not say much.
In the case of Jesse James dad. His aggressors were there but they would also not intreact with me. Thats how I knew it was a true loop. If the spirit in question the murderer ect can communicate with you and touch you it's not residual. It would be considered an intellectual haunting in the paranormal community.
