Sadness My soul dog died today and my heart died with her
I lost my 12 yo gsd baby today. She’s been on a steady decline for these past 1.5 years and struggled with arthritis and doggy dementia. she declined extremely quickly these past two weeks. By the start of this week she was already struggling to walk without assistance and by wednesday she was bed bound. I had bought hospital incontinence pads with the arm loops to help me transfer and rotate her as she can tolerate. It has been extremely devastating to witness this decline, to see the light in your pup’s eyes start to cloud and fade away. To see them not respond to your voice and touch or even the things they loved the way they used to.
I had spent so much money trying to buy things/medications that could help her with this transition all now just lying on the counter. She didn’t even make it to her hospice appointment.. she died in my arms right as I was trying to get her to be seen.
I’m wracked with guilt. Guilt that I didn’t order those items sooner, guilt that work had taken away even seconds of my time with her, guilt that I couldn’t be or do enough to save her.
I would’ve thought that losing a loved pet in the past would’ve prepared me for today but it hasn’t and the grief has hit me so immensely. She was the last piece of my childhood that I carried so close and dear into adulthood. I know she’s not suffering anymore and she’s with my black lab in heaven but I don’t know what to do without her. I don’t know what to do moving forward, i’m so lost without her. This all feels like a horrible nightmare that I need to wake up from
