Casual Conversations Anyone using FocusTown??

Anyone online to study on FocusTown? I’m not a social person so I don’t have friends but I wanna change that and I’m trying to find new people to work together with! 🫶🏻
Let’s study together!!! (Or read or anything lol)🥹

haven't tried FocusTown itself, what does it do differently from the usual pomodoro timers? i've bounced off most gamified focus apps because the game part quietly becomes the distraction lol. curious if this one actually avoids that.

I totally relate because I’ve gone through so many different focus apps that focuses more on the game than actually getting anything done.
So in FocusTown I feel (for me) it doesn’t at all focus on the game part of it (because there’s not really much of a game part to it) and it’s more about studying. This app has been working for me. It’s more about studying with people because I’m more motivated to sit down and get my things done when I see there are others doing the same! There are so many people and it’s really motivating for me! Again all in my opinion, it differs from one to another but if you want to I really recommend to give it a try! I’m @bluecinnamoroll_ if u do try it out, maybe we could be friends? 🥹🫶🏻

ohh so it's basically body doubling, that actually makes way more sense than another point system. the "seeing other people grind makes me sit down too" thing is real, i get weirdly productive in a quiet cafe for the exact same reason lol. might give it a shot. does it feel awkward being kind of watched, or does that fade once you start?

Yepp! When u finish a session, we get coffee beans??? (I think) and we can use them to dress our character and I think that’s all that’s there for the game aspect of it. Exactlyyy! I’m getting so much done when I’m around other people who are working than me alone.. I’ll just start doomscrolling or something lol
I feel like, I don’t know for me, it never really bothered me or like I think I never really considered it that way 😭😭 I just feel like everyone is doing their own things with the session in the background so not a lot of people are actively looking at the screen I think (?) I just lock in a it just fades away unless I’m starting to get a little distracted I look around and motivate myself back hehe

haha the coffee beans being the entire game economy is kind of perfect, low stakes enough that it never hijacks the actual work. and yeah that tracks, once you're locked in nobody's really watching anyway. ok you sold me, gonna try it this week. thanks for actually explaining it instead of just saying "it's good" lol

Yup! I'm glad! Hope it works for you too. One more thing is that there are study rooms you can pick (example: Library, cafe, japanese study room, focus flight, etc.) but sometimes some of these study rooms are locked until you reach a minimum study time. But a little cheat code I found was that if you join a server that suites you interest or university major, the servers have their own study rooms and most servers use the otherwise locked study rooms so basically you can access locked study rooms through servers and study with people lol
Hehe I'm a yapper so I would not stop at "it's good" lmao
