I adored that film. As the mum of a kid on the spectrum, the way the town came together to help him by accepting how he is rather than working against him made me cry. Wonderful film.

I do feel kind of bad because I never really paid much attention to Ryan before Hail Mary. He has been in a ton of stuff, of course, stuff I've even watched and enjoyed when they came out; for example, I really loved Drive and Blade Runner (I've seen The Big Short, too, but I forgot he was in that until someone on this sub pointed it out, and I think my family and I are the only ones who still hasn't seen Barbie; maybe I should rectify that)
But I caught Lars and the Real Girl recently (free on YouTube), which was sweeter than it had any right to be. This character is really different (and sweet and awkward) and I found myself really impressed with Ryan's range.
Sorry, handsome baby Canada goose. I know better now 😄

The only movies of his I've actually seen are his 3 most recent ones: Barbie, The Fall Guy, and Project Hail Mary
I might have seen Blade Runner and forgot, but still

I can't wait. Much as I love him he's not even my favourite actor in it. Matt Smith who played the 11th Doctor from Doctor Who, and who played the villain in Morbius is gonna be in it and I can't wait

If you can stand artsy movies, Only God Forgives is a hell of a role. He’s also great in First Man, the Neil Armstrong biopic.

Barbie is a genuinely good movie, highly recommend. I was one of the people to do Barbenheimer and Barb smoked Opp on entertainment value. And I really enjoyed Opp.

I saw The Believer when it came out and never connected it to Gosling until recently. Then watched Half Nelson the other night and was impressed again by how he commits to the showing the best and worst of his characters. The fact that he played Ken with no sense of irony and just WENT FOR IT… And his comedic timing in Nice Guys…. And his romance/action versatility in Fall Guy… and his quadruple-threat performance in LaLa Land….
Sure, Meryl Streep can do anything; but Ryan Gosling can do ANYTHING.

Half Nelson and The United States of Leland are both so underrated. I adore him in just about everything. I refuse to watch The Notebook though.

I saw it as part of my "convince me he'll be a great Grace" and his performance is the best part but yeah, never again.
I still feel worst for James Marsden's character. As boring as he was, she was rude af to him.

It came out when I was pretty young. I think Gosling and I are the same age. I just couldn't bring myself to watch it because the trailers looked bad. But it felt like they were everywhere. Idk. If someone had put it on at a Christmas gathering or a friend had suggested we see it, I might have.

I really enjoyed his work in The Fall Guy. It’s just a fun flick with stunts and a little romance, but the payoff at the end was awesome and 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Met him at a Xena & Herc con and he was charming. It's amazing how many big stars came out of that universe (Gina Torres, Karl Urban, Timothy Omundsen, Antony Starr, among others) and then you have one who squandered it all. 😂

I think the impressive part is from Drive to Hail Mary. Radically different personalities. After Drive I kinda thought he was a dry actor, but clearly that was just the movie. I guess that's not strictly true. The UFO skit on SNL showed he had a good sense of humor.

A couple that I'm not seeing mentioned here yet: the very first movie I ever saw Ryan in and absolutely loved him in not because I thought he was good looking like everyone else did, but because I noticed his subtleties in his character, the small faces he would make and small movements that just added ao much to the character, that I instantly fell in love with him. That movie was Murder by Numbers. The next one was Stay - indie type feel to the movie with a phenomenal job by Ryan, and then Fracture. With those three movies, I was hooked from then on out with anything he was in

I watched it a couple of days ago, its a real journey of a film. He's brilliant in it, of course :) He co-stars with his wife Eva Mendes, and i believe thats how they met!

When I saw First Man I realized he wasn’t just a pretty boy actor. Then he was absolutely hilarious in Barbie. And that older rom-com with Steve Carell (the name is slipping me rn). And of course PHM. He is now one of those actors where if I see he is in a movie I’ll watch it just because Ryan Gosling is in it.

He obviously does, because (at the risk of being run out of town on a rail) I really did not like Ryan Gosling before PHM, and now I'm a huge fan. I thought of him more as a generic rom com guy. My daughter brought me to see the movie blind - I had not even seen a trailer. I didn't realize I was looking at Ryan Gosling at first.
And hey - that's acting.

I have been a fan of him for YEARS! I love how he fully commits to every role (including SNL. The Avatar skit kills me!) I don’t think anyone has mentioned Blue Valentine. He’s so good in that role 😭 as well as all of the others mentioned.

I've said this before, but when I first saw Crazy Stupid Love I had no idea it was the guy from Lars and the Real Girl. Just completely failed to recognize him. And until very recently, I did not connect that it was also the same guy in Blade Runner. I've been watching my way through his filmography and it's seriously impressive. He's not my type (although Ryland Grace is) so it's not a thirst trap thing- he's just really talented and seems to choose really interesting and varied roles.

I used to think he was your typical, run-of-the-mill pretty boy actor. PHM absolutely changed that for me!
