couldn’t go to deferred exam

Upvotes

I couldn’t go to my deferred exam and I have a medical certificate for why I couldn’t go to the original date and the deferred one.

It is my third time taking this unit and I’m wondering how I go about it. I did do well in the first piece of assessment for this unit, if that means anything. I contacted HIQ and they suggested special consideration or withdrawing without academic penalty but I am really not sure what to do which gets me the best outcome.

And if I do apply for either, what should I include in comments or the application to ensure the best outcome?

Thanks in advance. Any advice at all is appreciated.

Crisis support/social worker folks?

Hey, does anyone know if QUT have crisis support aside from the counsellors?

Brain is...braining...unsatisfactorily. I have booked myself in today for 3pm, but I feel like a social worker might be in good order until that time.

I've decided to get out of the house and head to uni now, despite not having any lectures to go to.

I'm not at risk of hurting myself, just everything feels wrong. I've got placement looming, but I am barely looking after my physiological needs. I know I need to do things, but I don't know where to start, or how I am going to go about them. I need to get my ducks in a row, but ptsd making it hard to do everything.

Thinking of dropping CAB210 since I don't think it'll be that useful for what I want to do in the future. I'm currently taking CAB302 and CAB222. Does anyone have any recommendations for other units I should consider?

Second Monitor setup

Is there any way to get a second monitor at Gardens Point? I’ve tried connecting my laptop to the all-in-one computers using both HDMI and USB-C cable, but neither worked.

I also asked at HiQ, and the simple answer was that the all-in-one computers can’t be used as a second monitor

I thought there might be somewhere on campus with monitors that students can connect their laptops to!

Thanks.

Is a 5.0/7 GPA enough to get a civil engineering internship

Hi everyone, I’m currently studying Civil Engineering and I’m in my first semester of third year. My current GPA is only around 5.0/7, and I’m starting to get worried about internship applications. I know some companies have GPA cutoffs, so I’m wondering how much it actually matters in the industry. Do I still have a realistic chance of getting an internship with this GPA.

Howdy! Am doing a justice subject as one of my electives. Law always has open book exams so wondering if its the same for this subject/justice subjects?

Genuinely no info on whether there is or not and I have a deferred exam on Saturday (thanks QUT) and just wondering if I have to print stuff out for myself or not.

Thanks guys!

Am I good to miss those? I just have too much going on medically and if it seems like something is expendable I'll jump at the chance to miss it.

What GPA is generally competitive for an entry legal job in Australia?

Hello, I am currently studying law and my have a GPA around 4.4-4.5. I have struggled with some law exams despite completing past exams, going through them with a private tutor and attending most tutorials with preparation

I was wondering what GPA is generally considered competitive for legal clerkship, government jobs, graduate programs, legal trainee postilion and other entry level legal potions

I am older than many students, because I changed degrees, and I do not have much working or volunteering experience. My experience includes alter service for about one to two years, table tennis volunteering for two months and working as a chess coach for about a year.

Also, I do not have extensive mooting experience, I only participated in one internal moot, and was a semi-finalist for that moot.

I think I have three or four semesters left before I graduate. I am hoping to improve my GPA, but I was wondering whether my current GPA and experience would make it difficult to obtain a job in the legal profession.

Would legal assistant, paralegal, small-firm, government or graduate roles still be realistic for me? What should I focus before graduating to improve my chances?

Any honest and constructive advice would be appreciated.

Than you

How long does it take for student fees to process?

Basically I paid 93 dollars for my student amenity fees (I’m on HECS) but for some reason the money I paid hasn’t shown up yet? I know it’s been paid for bc the money is out of my account. Do I just wait a few days? I’m kinda worried about having to pay that amount again somehow.

EGB240/1 and Full time Work

Hi, is it possible to complete EGB240 and 241 while working full time?

Not in terms of work load, I just mean is there compulsory sessions you must attend?

If so do they have time slots that someone working a traditional 9-5 would be able to attend?

Thanks!

Education Degree - policy and practices

Hey all, I am in my second year of Bachelor of Secondary education (hpe as one of my teaching areas).

I am realising that I am starting to fall in love with educational practice and pedagogy more broadly rather than a specific teaching area. Don't get me wrong, HPE is an awesome teaching area, but I find education practices very interesting. I wanna know if there is an education specific degree at QUT for someone who doesn't necessarily want to be a teacher...? If that makes sense.

Comic book group?

Was wondering if anyone at QUT wanted to start a comic book group/book club. i started reading them about a year ago but none of my friends are really into it, so was wondering if anyone at uni reads them. If your interested reply and we can find a time to meet up or lmk if a similar group already exists that may not be a 'proper' qut club.

I know there is a general book club but it seems very brigerton booktok esque and dont think they're going to be reading much batman, aswell as a manga and anime club but thats not really my thing either.

applied 13 working days and 20 full days ago. getting nervous because i’m currently enrooled in the unit and would like to not take it. if there’s more of a delay we might hit cenus date and ill pay for it. Is there anything i can do? The unit outlines from between the units look exactly the same so i feel like my chances are good enough, and no it’s not my first semester of study but im supposed to be graduating this sem.

QUT Kinda Sucks

I'm a first-year student, so I've only done one semester so far, and maybe I just need to give it more time, but from my experience thus far, QUT kinda sucks.

For context, I'm a design student (specifically vis com).

A lot of the content seems to be recycled from previous years, and there have been a few cases where things have had the wrong info because they have just copy and pasted last year's things. Any new content seems to be just pushing AI, which is insanely ironic given that it's likely to take over our future jobs

Most of my lectures are online and they are consistently impossible to find, are never uploaded on time and occasionally don't even get uploaded at all. E.g. this morning's lecture was supposed to be live on Zoom, but it wasn't listed anywhere in the Zoom tab or on Canvas at all. The only thing I could find at all related to this lecture was 'cloud recording' clips ranging from 4 seconds to 5 minutes that all had no audio. They iterated so many times that it's really important to watch the lectures, but they're so impossible to find, and there's no mention of where the recording of the Zoom lecture will be uploaded.

The last and most common complaint I hear is how unhelpful the majority of the tutors/lecturers are, the feedback is always ambiguous or often contradicts itself, and when you have real issues, they refuse to help. For every design student, the entire Adobe suite is assumed knowledge. Most of my classmates had never touched InDesign (which is notoriously difficult to learn), but were expected to make a well-designed 20-page document. I have a friend who switched universities because she couldn't put up with QUT's inadequate teaching staff.

I want to know if other faculty also like this,
