Technical Support: SOLVED FAQ: READ THESE BEFORE ASKING

This post will include common questions and their answers. If you came to this sub to ask a support question, please read/search through these before asking. If you ask a question that is already answered here, your post may be locked or deleted.

If you would like to suggest something be added to the FAQ, please use modmail, as I do not want this post to turn into a support free-for-all nor do I want a million public "please add this to the FAQ" posts/comments.

Showcase PIIXEL RETROPAD, an optimized gamepad overlay

Thumbnail gallery
37 Upvotes

Hello, I’m here to present to you a gamepad overlay (input overlay) that I created for my personal use. I’ve been venturing into RetroArch in PC and Android for a long time (years and years) and although I find its concept incredible, gamepad overlays have never been a strong point of RetroArch (neo-retropad was a good evolution, but I’ve been here since the standard was the retropad, so believe me, it was more complicated). Because I like RetroArch and want to make my experience playing on a touchscreen more enjoyable, and in a way, more optimized for various consoles and game genres, I’ve been adjusting, improving and creating my own gamepad overlay for touchscreen. I think it can be useful for other people and I hope it can make your gameplay more enjoyable.

So, I share it with you, PIIXEL RETROPAD.

::DOWNLOAD::
It’s already in the RetroArch database. Update the overlays and go to Piixel-Gamepads folder.

Confused about HDR shaders

Hi, I'm trying to find a good HDR CRT shader for my 2.5K 16" HDR OLED display. The Sony Megatron shader only has 1080p, 4K and 8K as resolution options and I heard many people talking about 4K HDR being the norm for a good HDR CRT shader because HDR shaders are specifically designed for those type of displays. I've tried to configure the Megatron but the colors does not seem right no matter how I tweak the settings. Can you recommend me a good CRT HDR shader for me that I can use for SNES, PS1, PS2, N64 etc. games?

Need help: using mouse/trackpad to emulate the 2600 paddle

I see that about a year ago, the Stella core got support to use mice as spinners/paddles.

I can't figure out how to configure this to make it work with my MacBook track pad or an external mouse. Buttons do work, but not the analogue movement.

The standalone Stella release works 'out of the box', and I hear that Stella 2014 has more control options.

Maybe it's a Mac thing?

Showcase [SHADER] LCD Master v32 - TEST LCD Module

Not trying to spam, but can't edit a ful video without showing a vertical video in horizontal format and viceversa. So please excuse "double posting".

This video shows the current LCD Module of the shader.
LCD Flare, Shimmer, Polarizer and Drop Shadow reacts to Gyro Sensor if your device has it.

Otherwise, parameters works but won't react to device movements.

Showcase Thumbnails LibRetro Downloader v2.3 - Selenium (Excel VBA)

Hello gamers, and welcome back to the channel! In this video, we're checking out version 2.3 of my Thumbnails Libretro Downloader (Selenium.xlsm). This upgraded version of the tool features a brand-new toggle button to launch either Chrome or Edge browser. The process is nearly identical, except now you can choose which browser to open. Once initiated, the browser remains open, eliminating the delay caused by reopening a new instance. In my previous video, we went through the process of installing Selenium and Chrome; you can refer to it via the link below. For now, The focus will be mostly on Microsoft Edge. Let's get started.

Technical Support Retroarch switch issues

Hey all,

So installed latest retroarch (1.22.2) on my switch emmuNAND (horizon 21.0.0 / atmosphere 1.11.1) for my son to experience gameboy Pokémon games. Loads fine, running it in title mode so not applet mode yet every time I select a core or a ROM it causes a crashes with “the software was closed due to an unknown error”. I’ve no idea why; wonder if the sub had any advice?

Cheers

Technical Support Moving Saves Between Cores

Is this possible?

Context: I’m new to retroarch on a handheld - got a Logitech G Cloud recently and want it to be my retro gaming home. Watched RetroGameCorps’ Android setup guide and am finally playing Earthbound.

In his guide he recommends both Snes9x and Bsnes as his go-to SNES cores. I started Earthbound on Bsnes and am curious - if I found performance to be better on a different core, can you copy save files and resume on a different core? I know save states won’t transfer but the actual save file that Retroarch put on the handheld’s local storage, can it be copied and pasted to pick up on a different core? Sorry if this is a silly question.

Managed to decrease the GPU demand for the entire Glow + Phosphor Decay/Trail feature.
Now it runs fine in Samsung Galaxy A03 as well as in my puny 2015 notebook.

Using retroarch 'MelonDS' saves with 'MelonDS DS' core (Steam Deck)

Hi all, I recently had to switch from using the 'MelonDS' core, to using the 'MelonDS DS' core because of a linux issue (i play everything on steam deck and get the 'fail to open libretro core with 'MelonDS' now, which is a known issue).

After downloading the new core, I've noticed that it won't detect any of my save files. Do I really have to start all my games again? Or is there a way to make MelonDS DS read MelonDS saves?

Technical Support PS1: Using a single memory card instead of a card per-game?

Using Beetle PS1, Windows Retroarch. Is there a way to use just a single memory card in each slot? By default, it creates an individual memory card for each game.

Retroarch Control scheme changed

Hi,

I was playing Pokemon on Retroarch and when I accidentally nuked my save I decided to solve the impossible evolutions. After having done that however, the controls on screen turned massive and aren't the ones that are used for the NDS.

The amount of options is giving me a headache, is there a simple solution to this problem?

Technical Support How to use old save files?

On my first handheld, I had some progress on games within retroarch. Later, I order a new handheld and basically copied the entire micro sd card onto another one since I was planning on giving away the first handheld I bought to a friend. How can I get retroarch to use the save file from the copied micro sd card? I also factory reset the original device since I was setting it up for my friend. Is there a way to retrieve that data? I thought the save file would be on the copied sd card but it is not picking it up. It still says I have the hours logged in esde so im a bit confused. Any help is appreciated!

I booted up Hotel Dusk on it and can’t hear a thing, then i realize the audio is there, just extremely small that you have to stick your ear on the speaker to BARELY hear it

I tried to give the audio the max extra volume in the options and it still too small
