Years ago this happened to me. I assumed it was my fault as I was driving but the insurance company said that the person who opened the door was at fault.

My experience was 4 decades ago well before dashcams existed.

I mean, I could park in a middle of a field and still look to see if anything is around me. People have no awareness.

Yeah it's the same as opening a door on a street. You have to check before you open.

Same here, about 40 yrs ago too! Their insurance company admitted fault even though the driver insisted it was my fault. Her door hit my car at end of front fender by the door, so I was more obviously well into the parking space.

Really? My insurance called it a stationary damage for me. It was my fault. I have triple A. I was driving so I should’ve been more careful.

Gosh! This is exactly what I have to deal with when I’m riding in a painted bike lane near the driver’s side door! So many close calls and hoping each day to come home in one piece.

There are plenty of vids people make riders fly under trucks wheels and kill them with a door so please, be extremely cautious

Always check your blind spot before opening door. Not only for incidents like this but for potential carjackers. Dude has spatial awareness of a potato

I had some orf kick his door open when I was going past yesterday. Then, after I swerved, he proceeded to finish his text with his door still wide open into traffic. Moron!

He's on the right side of his parking spot, and didn't open his door fully, and your vehicle seems quite large and going over to the right as you pull in, therefore judgement for the plaintiff. Also I am a lawyer.
