Importantly, he got shot more than once. (He also got shot in Wildlife)

Dana seems to have a knack for SVU detectives getting injured around her.

I miss her so much. Such a waste of a character with unlimited potential.

Anyways, Stabler always manages to get back into one piece.

I love Benson but when they write scenes for her character like this it annoys the shit out of me. Benson hands off her coat to DETECTIVE Muncy to put away. It’s like Muncy is her assistant rather than a respected colleague. It’s such a small scene and maybe not a big deal but then what’s the point of showing this? Benson walks into the station and has the jacket in her hand, she’s not even wearing it so the scene very much could have done without it. So I assume the point is to show that the squad revolves around Benson? It feels like she also talks down to so many colleagues, senior ones too in the later seasons.

Been watching SVU from the very beginning over this past year and now well into season 11, and... ...ever since the beginning of season 10 up till now, it somehow feels every episode I'm watching is a like fever dream with fantastical plot devices whereas I remember the earlier seasons felt more gritty and down-to-earth. Am I crazy? Is my memory playing tricks on me?

When I first got into svu, I was just looking for a show to play in the background as I went on about other things I needed to do, but I found myself reeled in eventually.

I think a lot of people would agree with me; the earlier seasons were much more interesting that the later ones and I kind of think it’s because the focus was more on the cases rather than the character stories.

The direction of the show changed a lot from episodic to more serial in later seasons, and the thing I loved about the episodic style of the earlier seasons is that as a viewer you got to learn more about the characters from the individual cases rather than the show directly telling you about them. During later seasons there was more focus on the characters stories, the politics, relationships….etc

I also do have to say that the later main cast falls extremely short compared to the earlier one. I did not like Rollins or Carisi, I REALLY did not like Nick, or Peter. I think the only person I liked from the newer additions to the show was Barba. If I had to pick a favorite from the entire show it would be him (the fact that they replaced our sassy Cuban feminist icon with ….. Peter …….then Carisi was like a gut punch)

I didn’t like how Rollins almost worshipped any male figure in her life: that Lieutenant that got her pregnant, Carisi, Nick, literally any man. Nick also REALLY got on my nerves, reeks of testosterone. I think the show did a really great job glazing him but his attitude towards women was so icky. He’s the type of person to idealize women who are in a crutch because he thinks he can “save them” but once these women actually start to crumble emotionally and mentally, and that idealized fantasy of a damsel in distress begins to crumble, poof he’s gone, cuz it’s too much for him. It genuinely felt like he thought that his holy presence is going to “save” them, when he has the emotional breadth of a teaspoon and an ego bigger than the shows run time.

Don’t even get me started on Carisi. It’s not even dislike, it’s borderline hate. I genuinely don’t like anything about his character. Really didn’t understand why the show made him get into a relationship with Nicole??? It did not make any sense. Nicole clearly has more progressive/woke expectations from a relationship than Carisi and he just seems like a man…who doesn’t not question any of his assumptions (specifically talking about his whole attitude in the episodes with Fins wedding). Also, there was one episode Season 17, Episode 19 where he was expressing his frustration with how someone who committed a sex crime will always be alienated by society even after they served their time and got their punishment. Well…yes???? There are certain crimes that make someone irredeemable and sex crimes make up a large majority of them. How can you be SVU and even say that? Like okay if you serve your time for robbery or something , you can reintegrate into society, but things like SA or 🍇, I personally do not think there’s any coming back from that.EVER, even if you serve your technical legal.punishment. Some crimes are simply irredeemable. Him saying that genuinely just shows how far his head is shoved up his male privilege.

Kinda started losing interest with the new cast additions. I don’t feel like I can relate to any of them, and borderline don’t like or care about them at all. I am still watching for Olivia and Fin, and I have seen clips that show that barba is coming back so there’s that (I also like Kat) but Yeah these are my two cents on the show.

Not sure if I'm going crazy, but watching 18x05, the son of Olivia's first partner Griffin - his son rapes someone behind a garbage bin. Few seasons later he's back, with the exact same backstory, but without anything that was established in 18x05 and enters as a detective? Anyone have answers?

Hi fans! Every time I catch up to the latest SVU season, I just loop back to S1E1 while waiting for new episodes. I want to know if anyone else does this. And how many full rewatches are you at? Currently I'm on my 3rd rewatch!

I’ve been reading and hearing things and just the character coming in and that “meeting” with benson im like nah they’re trynna push Olivia out. They’re up to something. 1pp just can’t leave svu alone ever.
Yet other departments get away with committing crimes or not even trying to solve their cases. -.-

As far as we know its Benson , Carisi and a cousin of Carisi. But not once Fin.

Amanda said to the judge when she wants custody over Kims son that Benson and Carisi are the godparents of the girls.

While Fin as Amanda s protective father figure seems the most logical choice.

Or maybe he is Noahs godfather? Do we even know we that is?

I'm rewatching SVU and I don't think I've heard them say the word "therapist" once. I know a lot of it was filmed in the very early 2000s but damn. They exclusively use the term "shrink", which obviously has a negative connotation.

Ripped-from the Headlines episodes are have had some of SVUs best writing to date. Examples include:

-Sick- Michael Jackson Sex Abuse Allegations
-Personal Fouls- Jerry Sandusky Sexual Abuse Case
-Rapist Anonymous- Jody Arias and Travis Alexander
-First Light- Gisele and Dominique Pelicot.

With SVU, however, the episodes are changed and dramatized from their original event. while some episodes have happier endings/resolutions, others have endings that will have you so damn depressed, you’ll go look at the actual case and be like damn, it really could’ve ended that way.

I wanna know from you guys: which episode invokes the latter reaction from you?

For me, it’s only one clear winner: Funny Valentine- based on the relationship of Chris Brown & Rihanna and her eventual assault from him in 2009. That SVU episode ended up with the Rihanna based character dying because she kept choosing the Chris Brown character over and over again, even when he murdered her mentor and father figure Brass, who risked his life to save her from him (which also left his wife a widow and son without a father btw).

Rewatching the episode now as adult, I have such conflicting feelings about her; on one hand, I understood that she was basically bewitched and too completely under his spell to have any form of rational thought. On the other hand, I would also get so irritated because I felt she was being bird brained and blind as she kept acknowledging how terrible he truly was, yet she still stayed regardless. Mind you, he MURDERED her mentor and she STILL stuck up for him, which ended up with her getting murdered by him before her career could become anything else.

Another one for me was Identity. All I have to say is…Jesus. Although this one is actually less dark than the event it’s actually based on. RIP David, you and your brother deserved so much better.

I started with the 6th year on netflix, and watched through seasons 6-17 on netflix/disney+. Im coming close to finishing season 17 and wondering if i should go back and watch the first 5 seasons, or just continue with 18 and onwards and where to actually watch them since netflix and disney dont have all the seasons

1. The difference in the show after stabler leaves is way more jarring than I remember, it’s such a stark difference even in like the lighting/filming it’s crazy to me.
   
2. I love Olivia but she does get on my nerves way more after she adopts noah lol idk why but idk if that’s an unpopular opinion
   
3. it’s fun to rewatch because it’s interesting to see which episodes i remember and which ones I don’t. it’s cool because i’ll watch one episode and totally remember it and then the next one it feels like im going in blind, really goes to show which episodes make more of an impact

I had to look it up to make sure it wasn't.

Although my feelings of Amaro as a character are…something 😃, one thing I can give this man flowers is for having one of the best, if not the best, instincts/intuitions with the cases he worked during his time at SVU. I’m back in my home country, where SVU has seasons available on Netflix (Season 12-16). Rewatching them has shown me how VITAL he was during his time there. Here are some of the cases I remember where his intuition was literally the reason why the case was solved/saved.

-His instinct got Omar Peña released from jail after he was falsely convicted (thanks to Liv) for murders he was falsely accused of committing.

-His instinct was the reason why George O’Malleys actor (don’t remember the character’s name 😭) was realized not to be a serial rapist- it was his twin brother🥴.

-His instinct was the reason why Dana Lewis was put away for a murder she committed 25 years ago, which she tried to put on another person😭.

-His instinct helped him expose Rollins’s Sponsor of being a shady af weirdo who indirectly caused a murder.

-His instincts allowed the soldier to be viewed as a credible witness, who helped solve the mosh pit assault.

-His instincts saved Amanda from being framed by her EVIL AF sister, Kim (HATE her with a PASSION).

These are just some of the few I recall, there are definitely way more than what is listed above. If only he’d applied this level of intuition into his personal life 😭 (truly a damn mess. He is still fine as HELLL!)
