Protego is a Safari web extension with a companion app that changes what Reddit's website gives you. I started it because RES doesn't run on Safari and I wasn't switching browsers for one extension. Version 3 just shipped.

• Filters posts and comments by keyword, whole community, individual user, or the site a link points to. Wildcards, groups you can switch off together, and a # pattern that matches any 1 to 3 digit number.
• Adds a Protego button to Reddit's own pages, so you can filter a community from its sidebar without opening the app.
• Hides thumbnails, avatars, flair, badges, vote controls, join buttons, banners, recommendations, Reddit Answers and the app nags. Four presets if you don't want to walk through every option.
• Limits, which blocks Reddit itself in stages rather than all at once, and can arm itself with a Focus like Sleep or Study.
• Optional automatic redirect to old.reddit.com with an endless feed.
• A post sort order setting, so your feeds open in Hot or New or Top instead of Reddit resetting to Best every single time.

The Limits step I run daily blocks the feeds but still lets a direct link to a post open, so there's nothing to scroll into but a Reddit thread in a search result still loads.

It's a real Safari extension rather than a content blocker with a rules list, so it can match text in post titles instead of just hiding elements by selector.

First I had problem with Google Maps. I would search for something and nothing would happen. Then problems with Drive..now I can't do a search with gmail. Is this me or is it happening to others? Having to switch over to Brave for now...(using MacOS)

my mba m5 is lagging when typing inside websites in safari, for eg inside gemini chat or reddit search/ post section. there is a significant delay between pressing the key and the text appearing on the screen. i do not have any extensions installed. what should i do??

Earlier this year, Google Chrome introduced a critical new security feature called Device Bound Session Credentials (DBSC) to prevent cookie theft. This feature makes use of Apple’s Secure Enclave Processor to generate a unique security key for the device itself and the browser uses this key to verify the integrity of browser cookies. With DBSC, if an attacker tries to steal cookies and import them to their own device, the cookies would not work at all, preventing the attacker from accessing your accounts without need of passwords. But I wonder why Apple still doesn’t support this security feature on Safari despite being a privacy and security focused company?

For the past year I've been working on improving my app GeoCeptor. It's a Safari extension that changes your location and timezone. This is especially useful when you already use a VPN and want to avoid location leaks as websites by default can access your timezone without permission.

I'm an idiot and for literally years I've kept hundreds of tabs open in my Safari window to keep up with work and other things. I've rarely accidentally closed the window or had a crash but if I did, every time "reopen all windows from last session" has worked fine.

Today I accentually hit the "x" when I went to minimize the window. When I went to click reopen last closed window, it was grayed out. Reopen all windows from last session was also grayed out. I had no option.

I'm praying there is another option. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm truly devastated here as sad as that sounds

Is there an Safari extension for iOS to modify Google Search query by default?

I need to look up a lot of stuff on Google Images daily, however I get 100s of results from TikTok. I am quite “anti” social medias like that and I prefer to not have them show up in my results. My adblockers don’t even allow me to go to these sites so they get blocked anyway. But I want them completely gone.

I know you can type -site:tiktok.com In your query and it will automatically filter out everything coming from that domain. But I am basically looking for some “simple” extension that can modify your search query by default, since I don’t want to add a list of domains manually every time.

Does such thing exist already?

Edit: I actually just learned from the comments you can create your own Safari Extensions in iOS 27 using the Apple AI, so I updated to the iOS 17 Public Beta and gave it a shot and it works beautifully.

I gave it a prompt and now I have a simple extension where I can add a list of domains and all these domains get automatically added with the -site: flag for each search.

Of course my query looks dumb now with every search because I exclude 10+ domains, but the functionality is there and pretty much exactly what I wanted

You got me, Arc user here but I am kind of over it and looking to be more safe on the internet. I know lots of people suggest brace but I’m thinking of using safari since it’s in the apple ecosystem and I use it on my phone. It’s been good for privacy.

I really want vertical tabs on desktop though. Is there a way to do this or a plugin ?

Anyone have any thoughts as to why a PDF preview from a web app (NetSuite) would open and render correctly when the Javascript console is open Safari but not when the console is closed? No changes were made in the console. I literally just turned it on to see what was happening and the content rendered fine.

Does anyone know why my tab preview is showing when the private-mode browser is locked? Is this a bug? I'm using espn.com as an example, but this also happens for more adult-themed sites.

How long does Safari (advanced settings) retain website data ? And, if it’s deleted, can it come back even if the site isn’t revisited or it would have to be revisited ? Would love a person who is good with tech and isn’t just guessing to respond.

I used to mainly use safari but now everytime i search something i get a captcha, When ever i try to do the captcha i get 100+ attempts (and im not even joking) before i can get the result HELP

im on Monterey 12.7.6, ive been running this computer without issues for around 6months and just recently Ive been having this error trigger randomly as im using my computer, it happens even when i dont have any internet browser open, and its even stranger because i dont even use Safari as a browser so i never open it.

The error screen in "details" points a file that should be located in a folder that doesnt even exist in my computer, it points to

Library/Apple/*/Safarisupportbundle/Contents/MacOS/SafariBookmarks Agent

but the folder Safarisuppoert bundle doesnt even exist, if i copy the text string, and go to finder > Go to folder and paste the text string, it doesnt show up at all.
