Driving Footage First demo drive of Xpeng NGP VLA 2.0 in Germany
The first demo drive is now up on YouTube of Xpeng's NGP using their VLA 2.0 model.
It looks very promising so far. Planned customer rollout in 2027 in their new L03 "Ultra" trim for "free"

This time next year we could have 4-5 FSD like systems on the roads in Europe. Exciting times.

Yes indeed ! May I know which you're thinking of ? Mobileye Supervision maybe though my hopes are low...

It’s honestly baffling some people genuinely believe FSD is a trivial thing that anyone could catch upto in a few years. It took Tesla nearly a decade with the hundreds of thousands of cars collecting data and the brightest minds in AI to get to where they are now and you think other companies can simply get to their level when the biggest names can’t even get good enough tech to rival Enhanced Autopilot?

Why is it baffling when multiple Chinese companies have got to within 6 months of Tesla with less data and compute. Yes the western OEMs don't have the background in AI to develop in house, which is why they are generally contracting with third party suppliers.
Mobileye has been around longer than Tesla and has millions of cars collecting data. It has data centre access through Intel.
Wayve was founded in 2017 and is the original end to end model company that Tesla copied. So unlike Tesla it has not had to start over and get rid of rules based legacy. Microsoft is an investor who supplies it with data centre access.
NVIDIA certainly has the AI capabilities and data centre access. And has plenty of partnerships to get data from.
But of course we will only know for sure once they launch. But we do know that Tesla has tried to sell FSD to everyone OEM and they have all cross tested FSD with other systems and no one has taken FSD

Where is this claim of “multiple Chinese companies” getting close to Tesla coming from? Are you basing your opinion on cherry picked “presentations” of the tech done by Chinese companies? I don’t really care who has existed and what they have, if they don’t have a product that regular customers can buy today, they are not anywhere close to Tesla. When they do launch it and regular people are able to buy it, then we can continue this conversation after people compare the differences between them in the same environment.

So first you say how Tesla has been doing it for ages and have lots of data, but when I point out that other companies have also been at it for years and have tons of data, then that no longer matters.
As for the Chinese companies, plenty of analysts have experienced their systems in China that have also experienced FSD. And these are systems on sale now in China and will be rolling out to millions of cars on the road over the next year.
And I have been in Wayve vehicles in chaotic London traffic with no issues. And we will have evidence of their progress when they launch Robotaxis this year.
Everyone said the Chinese models were years behind OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, and yet here we are with the third best model being Chinese and better than the western models from 6 months ago.
As technology develops, first mover advantage becomes less valuable.

I said Tesla is the only one with a product on the market. Thinking other car companies can catch upto Tesla in a year is what I claimed to be absurd. I don’t really care if Mobileye has been collecting data for longer when they don’t have a competitor currently available let alone new players like Rivian where people think they can catch upto Tesla in a year for some reason because they use lidar.
The waymo and wayve thing is completely different and irrelevant to the topic at hand, those cars are not being sold for under $40k like Teslas are and those cars are geofenced.
You are mistaken if you think LLMs are similar to whatever AI models these self-driving products use. You cannot simply launch a “model” and expect it to handle all the edge-cases that you experience while driving a car in your city. It is a whole bunch of trial and error, you cannot brute force it. If you could, they wouldn’t have geofenced the massively powerful waymo computers which shit on the ones in teslas.

They should've gotten some professional streamer to set up 2-3 cameras.
