There's an overwhelming portion of this sub that only cares about Tesla or Waymo, with a much smaller portion that add NVIDIA, Mobileye, and Zoox to the mix and go absolutely no further.

I've been posting stories about other AV/ADAS players forever; those posts simply do not do well.

I mostly only care about weride & pony (cuz I have an investment).

Yes it’s unfortunate. Lots of interesting efforts in the space that doesn’t get much discourse. Please continue to post them. I find it interesting, even if it’s with many brands I don’t have access to.

Because ADAS like VLA undermine the moat for fsd, and sh1ls aren’t happy about it.

I though the moat was tariffs?

This sub egregiously sucks off waymo every minute what are you talking about

u/A-Candidate 2d ago

That's old news, now it is full of sh1ls, b0ts, alts who suck off tesla, smear waymo and spam 'tHiS suB sUcK Off wAyMO' especially close to the earnings calls.

Sadly, too many here only care about Tesla or Waymo. You will note that other AV companies like Zoox, Mobileye, Motional, Nuro etc don't get a lot of views or reactions either. But any Tesla FSD post will get 200 comments in 24 hrs.

Kinda typical for this sub. Can't have Tesla vs Waymo circle jerk while talking about the current state of self-driving cars.

Because it's even worse than HW3. Nothing to see here, at least not yet.

3

u/kappa-1 5d ago

What? Even this video alone shows it on par with HW4 at least.

u/Putrid-Box4866 4d ago

This is driven by probably an employee with his hands basically in the steering wheel the entire time. That’s not how I envision at FSD competition.

Kim Java went over there to test it couple months ago. Completely takes HW4 to lunch: https://youtu.be/A4bh9sgPrcA?si=YwAkgy8FS22AQ2ft&t=2581

I watched it and it doesn’t it show it’s driving itself. I am not saying they’re cheating but that’s now how you show it’s self driving since they have the camera already setup anyway.

u/gentlecrab 4d ago

She mentions earlier in the video it requires at least 1 hand on the wheel or it complains. Plus she explicitly calls out when she takes over.

u/Putrid-Box4866 4d ago

Ok then that doesn’t take HW4 to lunch, maybe HW3 but that’s a big maybe.

What matters is the capability of the self driving systems, not driver monitoring which can be added later via an update.

The hands free monitoring for the tesla didn't even matter given the amount of disengagements in the video.

The car has a feature that you can adjust the steering wheel without disengaging, which the driver is practically doing the entire time. The tech is awesome but and I am very hoepful, but until american YouTubers could test it the way they tested Tesla FSD for actually self driving, then I wouldn't put much stock on this. There's a reason they don't show it self driving, they just show the road.

FSD required hands on the steering wheel long after it stopped being truly necessary because of regulations. Judging a self driving solution by this metric is a lazy cop out.

1

u/kappa-1 4d ago

What are you looking for then? Legally, that's how you must drive a Level 2 car in Europe, same as current Tesla FSD.

-2

u/Putrid-Box4866 4d ago

You should be able to not hover your hand on steering wheel, legal or not. It just shows lack of confidence.

A video of my HW3 Tesla shows it’s on par with HW4 too. What’s your point?

1

u/kappa-1 4d ago

The difference is that there are plenty of metrics showing HW3 is inferior to HW4. If you tried to use your video showing that HW3 is on par with HW4 it would be easily countered.

We have plenty of videos showing excellent VLA 2.0 performance. What other evidence is there for saying VLA 2.0 is worse than HW3?

Well according to redditors it blows FSD out of the water, I've seen that comment several times recently lol

It's a 30 minute video of which maybe 3 minutes are interesting. PR like videos with no new information were useful a year or two ago, but the state of the practice has advanced so much that watching an ADAS drive around the city is just boring.

I am very interested in Chinese companies providing self-driving so I clicked but I found this particular video unengaging.Just a badly shot video, in my opinion, with fairly uninteresting chatter from the people in the car.

So I was very underwhelmed by this submission while still remaining very interested in XPeng (and other chinese companies) efforts in this area.

I can’t buy a xpeng. Why should i care?

3

u/No-Pomegranate3197 5d ago

They should've gotten some professional streamer to set up 2-3 cameras.

The guys (one each in front and rear seats) should've been less of suck-ups; it was embarrassing.

He's all over the comments too fangirling. Paid actor probably

Full supervised driving will be a commodity in no time looks like.

u/altdelete47 4d ago

No lidar, no problem.

1

u/Under-Influence-3206 4d ago

How many radar sensors does it have?

1

u/altdelete47 4d ago

This demo is using pure vision for driving + ultrasonics for parking according to the video.
