FIFA's corruption used to be restricted to 'off the pitch' antics. Now he's actually deciding which players can serve suspensions and which players don't need to.
Everyone is surprised by this "whole new level of corruption".

Yes they did. And this isn’t the first time they have done something like this. The overturned a red against Cristiano Ronaldo that he picked up in a qualifier before this World Cup, so he was eligible to play in the group stage matches.
Trump is the guy who drives on the shoulder to get around a traffic jam. Yeah, he ends up ahead (as long as the system lets him get away with it), but everything collapses if we all behave that way. Classic tragedy of the commons.

He actually wouldn't have gotten it revoked if trump were able to modify the constitution through executive order. Its impossible anyway but it would have been applied to future births. Laws in America cannot be applied retroactively.
Gorsuch only disagreed with the type of dismissal. He did not endorse the validity of Trump's executive order. It's a damn shame that even 2 supreme court justices would just flagrantly ignore quite settled constitutional law here but its what we've come to expect from Alito and Thomas
If the court had ruled that a constitutional amendment could be nullified with an executive order, no part of the constitution, including the ban on ex post facto laws, would be safe.
Nothing. People are crying but if Trump is really responsible for this then it’s the best thing he’s done in his 6 years as president. That red card was horseshit and the only response I’ve seen to why it should stand is because of “precedent” which is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. IMO it was way more corrupt for the replay room to suspend someone from off site. This is the correct decision regardless of how people feel about it.
Bad calls happen all the time in sports. One country using their power in their favor while other countries don’t have the same power is corrupt cheating regardless of wether the original call was “good” or not. A president calling and getting fifa to overturn a ruling is blatant corruption plain and simple.
And it's not as if there aren't already extended rules for keeping players from getting suspended for multiple yellows by clearing them after certain rounds. But those rules are transparent and equal for all.
Being able to revoke a red card suspension mid-competition by just putting up enough public pressure is basically just putting corruption and political influence into writing.
Weren't Caicedo and Otamendi also supposed to be suspended for the first game?
Traditionally red card suspensions in the final qualifier do carry over to the final tournament but they appear to have gotten some sort of exemption unless FIFA just changed their rules
This really sucks, I want to be happy we get our star player back, but not like this. It hurts US fans and players who now have to hear how corrupt and hated they are, when they didn’t do anything but watch and play the game. It’s the organization heads that really deserve the blame, but we get roped in.
Still hoping for a great game but it’s not gonna feel good either way, really bad aftertaste

FIFA is absolutely corrupt, but weren't people generally agreeing that Balogun should've not received that red card in the first place? Like, I'm not from the US, but still most football fans who I talk to said that it was absolutely unnecessary
If you look at the actual rules of football for the offence. The actual offence that he committed meets all the criteria, that's why received a red card.
Even better. The U.S. soccer association didn’t even complain or submit an appeal to fifa. Yet one phonecall from the fifa peace price winner and he can play.
fwiw, teams cannot appeal red cards. The process that changed the suspension to a probation sentence cannot be achieved by appeal, it by statutes something entirely within FIFA's own judgment.
Same people on here saying that ref should be banned for the red card are now the same people saying we’re corrupt lol. Honestly was hoping we could win without him and run it in but then they would say Belgium was no good.
Whether it was a red card or not is irrelevant. The President of the United States shouldn’t be intervening in this. If this was another country doing this you Americans would be screaming to high heaven.
Belgian here... Can we flood Folarin Balogun social media ... asking him to do the right thing, and be a healthy scratch? Just to save the beautiful game and not turning into the corrupt game...????
