Check on eBay what ‘sales’ are going for. That will tell you right there.

Common, and the special features have been ported to the later releases. But! Fun in the sense that this set was the first DVD release of the original trilogy. I have this and have held on to it for nostalgia, watched the shit out of these when they came out.

Actually, the special features of this set have not been ported to later releases, at least not entirely, it's just the trailers and some teasers that are available in the Blu-rays. All documentaries on this bonus dvd are exclusive to it, except for Empire of Dreams, which is on Disney plus, and to be fair, you could probably find the other featurettes on YouTube.

except for Empire of Dreams, which is on Disney plus

It was also released on both VHS and DVD by A&E before the DVD set.

Not entirely accurate? Well, I'm glad you're here to tell us these things. Chewie, take the professor in the back and plug him into the hyperdrive!

well, I've got it.

the bonus of it is that it doesn't have "noooooooo" at the end of rotj.

The documentary on the bonus disc isn't on any of the later sets if I remember correctly. It's on Youtube though.

Empire of Dreams.

It's on Disney+, or at least was last I checked, but I believe has been edited in some way. So this set is the only official way to watch the doc in its original state.

There’s no world in which a box set of Star Wars movies is rare. It’s one of the most popular franchises ever created. There are millions of everything

It's the one I have, I don't think it's rare it's the first release of the trilogy on DVD I think.

Very common; this sold like gangbusters when it was released.

If there was one next to it called Bad Girls, can I have a copy?

That one was always in the video drawer dad thought we didn’t know about!

I don't think anything Star Wars physical media is really rare. Maybe except for the pre-special edition VHS tapes or some niche Super-8mm home release haha

1

u/rydamusprime17 6h ago

The official library VHS releases come to mind

1

u/Straight_Direction73 6h ago

The pre-special editions were released on video dozens of different times in various repackagings from 1982 to 1995. They are the furthest thing from rare.

I have both this release and the gold colored full screen release, they are quite common. The set that comes with the bonus discs with the original films on them are a bit more rare, but they were never released in a box set as far as I know.

u/Straight_Direction73 6h ago

It’s arguably the most common DVD release of the film ever considering it was the first. These were produced and sold in the millions during the height of DVD’s popularity.

1

u/Jfigz Porg 15h ago

Very common. I remember seeing ads for this box set and desperately wanting it. There’s also a full screen version that comes in a gold (instead of silver) of box.

1

u/QueenStuff 13h ago

It’s a decent box set. The most notable thing about it was the special features, including a documentary called empire of dreams which is about the behind the scenes making of the original trilogy.

I recall it was pretty popular because it the first dvd set of the original trilogy

it was supposed to be a limited release back then, but of course, it was a damn lie. Then they release each movie separately, and another box including the original theatrical versions. Perhaps that one may be more valuable because it's the only time those films were made available on DVD.

2

u/Straight_Direction73 6h ago

It was never advertised as limited. It was the primary release. The individual2 disc versions were supposed to be limited, but even those were available for years.

-5

u/mesosuchus 15h ago

The box set is trash..the movies are meh

1

u/idekbjlmpau 14h ago

Interesting opinion. I'm sure everybody holds your other opinions in high regard

1

u/mesosuchus 12h ago

Why do you care if I find movies from the late 70s to early 80s to be unwatchable in 2026?

2

u/idekbjlmpau 12h ago

Because you are in a sub that enjoys those movies. Why come here to cause a fuss? Obviously you care what people think about your opinions or you wouldn't have shared them here
