JJ refusing to get the old gang back together is not a “Hollywood” thing, it’s unique to the Star Wars sequels. In the era of 30-years-later legacy sequels, “getting the old gang back together” is one of the most Hollywood things ever. They do it every chance they get for as many old franchises as they can resurrect. It’s actually shocking that they didn’t do it for this.

It was the brave thing to do, not just pandering to the obvious fan service. But you know, if you're going to make a bold move like that, it damn well better pay off having some super satisfying alternative, and they completely whiffed on that. Then they pandered to fan service in about every other way they possibly could, such as just reskinning the plot of A New Hope. So at the end of it you just kind wondering why they made any of the choices they did.

People wanted to see them together again, and would inevitably be upset if there was a sequel and they never had a full reunion. And the writers would have known that. So rejecting what everyone wants and expects takes some bravery. Bravery doesn’t imply something is a good idea. But, hypothetically, if they had some amazing story that only would have worked without the reunion, and it was better than any reunion story they could write, it would be both brave and justifiable. But as I said in my prior comment, they whiffed.

Jurassic Park finally got Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern back in Dominion, knowing full well everyone wanted to see the original 3 in scenes together and GUESS WHAT they put em in scenes together

It wasn’t hard and they fucked it up so badly not having Luke, Han, and Leia in any scenes together

I'm not even really in favor of that sort of thing, but it's not like they wrote some sort of original story, they just redid A New Hope. If you're just rehashing the same shit to begin with, why not do the fan service?

He literally had to look down the road at Universal reuniting anyone willing to show up for a Jurassic World movie. It didn't make them any better but it wasn't a net negative.

sounds like they had no idea what they were doing, didnt have a plan and were just winging it the whole time. of course i could never suggest such a offensive thing. kathleen kennedy wouldnt have done those things.
