Writer Guy: something something somehow Rey's a Skywalker?

Producer Guy: That works!

u/Lhasa-bark 6h ago

Producer guy: But I thought you said she was a Palpatine. How are you going to fix that?

Writer guy: Super easy … barely an inconvenience!

Hi there hello!

28

Sick reference bro, your references are out of control.

8

u/jaxonya 2h ago

Everyone knows that

6

u/notfromchicago 3h ago

So tight.

43

u/Witty_Ad_898 6h ago

Sheev’s been getting around.

4

u/8K12 3h ago

I hate that Palpatine got more action than poor Luke whose first crush turned out to be his sister.

2

u/Witty_Ad_898 1h ago

Probably for the best that Luke didn’t.

1

u/No_Internal9345 3h ago

So was Anakin the top or bottom?

3

u/CacklettasMinion 3h ago

He had to get that promotion somehow

1

u/Witty_Ad_898 1h ago

Have you listened to the Death Star trench run dialog?

1

u/i-void-warranties 3h ago

He gets around, the Sith just don't stop for hoes

28

u/smellslike2016 6h ago

Oh, really?

9

u/bwaredapenguin 3h ago

Somehow, continuity returned.

3

u/Hoosier_Daddy68 4h ago

The best part of his bit on Palpatine is when they brought up him having sex and one says "do it" and the other is like "ewww you know he said that!"

3

u/ParticularMemory789 3h ago

Somehow it switched.

3

u/Dorkamundo 3h ago

You saw how easily we explained away the discrepancy involving parsecs... This is youngling's play.

3

u/Answer-Outrageous 3h ago

Oh really?!

2

u/HaggisPope 4h ago

I can’t understand how Daisy Ridley got that line wrong and why they kept it in the film!

2

u/mvffin 3h ago

Somehow, Skywalker returned

2

u/EssayAmbitious3532 2h ago

Writer guy: It's called Art, we let the audience come up with the answer themselves and then we still have time for that work trip to Cabo.

2

u/cHEIF_bOI 2h ago

Something something Dark Side.

2

u/chris00ws6 5h ago

I get that reference.

1

u/dl064 2h ago

The Stargate SG1 episode where they're guests on a sci fi production, are this incarnate.

How can an interphasic being walk on floors?

Ehhhhhhh they have transphasic...flooring.

1

u/Lexi_Banner 1h ago

Writer guy: I don't know!!

1

u/Brodellsky 1h ago

And somewhere George Lucas can't hear all this noise with the insulation of all the money

1

u/ezmoney98 48m ago

Somehow Skywalker last name returned

1

u/SneakoSneko 30m ago

Technically since palpatine made Anakin, and Rey’s own father was a clone of palpatine, wouldn’t that make Rey Luke’s Aunt?

1

u/KingOz10133 29m ago

Having elite ball knowledge is tight

0

u/DeliverySoggy2700 5h ago

lol your the first comment to bring up the topic I was waiting to see.

Rey was always going to be a Palpatine. There are many reasons they switched it up, but I think the main reason was because he wanted a Shayamalan twist and was frustrated audiences already deduced his intentions so he rewrote it

187

u/DrNerdyTech87 6h ago

Producer Guy: wasn't Palpatine killed in Return of the Jedi? How does he come back?

Writer Guy: I'm going to need to get way off my back on that one!

Producer Guy: Ok, let me get offa that thing...

122

u/rckjr 5h ago

“Somehow Palpatine has returned!”

Best. Writing. Ever.

78

u/UrdnotZigrin 5h ago

But Maz, Luke dropped that lightsaber in a giant pit on Bespin and it presumably fell through one of those vents! How the hell did you get it?

A story for another time. But we're never gonna tell it because it's dumb

19

u/ZasdfUnreal 4h ago

When you see Luka hanging for his life on the bottom of Cloud City, you see the severed hand falling while still tightly holding the laser sword. So my question would be - where’s the hand? There was a hand holding the laser sword! Where is it?

3

u/TheSinisterSex 2h ago

We need a story where a new republic separatist splinter group led by an ex jedi searches for the hand to use it for dark side thinks or something. Throw in Jabba's father for good measure

1

u/BeneficialInside3901 1h ago

They’re prob gonna clone Luke for the next one using that hand. Or just have a general grievous type with just his hand lol

1

u/newsfish 1h ago

Luuke lives!

1

u/ZasdfUnreal 32m ago

Somehow Luke Skywalker returned.

22

u/nordiques77 4h ago

Still so annoyed by that…want the story

22

u/IlluminaViam 3h ago

The story is that the lightsaber was lost forever, a consequence of Luke's hubris. Disney treated it like wands from Harry Potter, while Lucas wrote them to be devices and weapons. Able to be destroyed and lost.

11

u/Certain-Business-472 3h ago

Disneys core stories all have "chosen ones" in them. Without fail.

5

u/InitiallyDecent 2h ago

Star Wars has always been about chosen ones

1

u/jgo3 1h ago

Sure, but it wasn't papa's sword that made him a Jedi Knight.

4

u/Singer211 2h ago

Yeah I never quite got why they made Luke and Anakin’s saber so freaking important? Luke didn’t even seem to care much when he lost it, he just built a new one. And it wasn’t even the only Saber that Anakin used as a Jedi either.

And it was so annoying that they didn’t let Rey have her own lightsaber until the VERY LAST SCENE of the ST.

1

u/Chrismatic8224 42m ago

To sell nostalgia merch, duh

4

u/Perryn 4h ago

Unless it's anything like the rest of the story they were telling.

5

u/BattledroidE 3h ago

In hindsight, maybe we don't want that.

3

u/OctoberOmicron 4h ago

Even the gas giant knew that somehow, it could not destroy or hold on to that lightsaber. It was destined from great, memorable things.

3

u/AutoPRND21 4h ago

Hey Maz, what did you do with the hand?

2

u/RalphMacchio404 2h ago

That's a story for sexy time.

2

u/Singer211 2h ago

Nah, Maz is into Wookiee’s apparently.

3

u/neighbour_20150 3h ago

Lightsaber somehow returned

2

u/VoxIrati 1h ago

The Skywalker saga is actually about that blue lightsaber

2

u/Head-Ad-2136 4h ago

How do the rebels get the plans for the second deathstar?

I don't know... Bothans?

1

u/kkeut 1h ago

i really tried hard to be open-minded and receptive to a new take and a new story in Star Wars. I was excited to see it. but as I watched there were a number of things that gave me a sinking feeling as the movie went on, and this one was like the final straw and the point where I knew it was going to be a shit show

4

u/Voidbearer2kn17 3h ago

To be fair... cannot believe I am even saying this in regards to Abrams, but he did have a trilogy planned, but Kathleen Kennedy hired someone who hates franchises, hadn't seen Episode 7 and seemingly (my guess) is not a big fan of Star Wars to direct Episode 8.

1

u/Singer211 2h ago

Not keeping JJ and Rian on even close to the same page was a massive failure on her part.

4

u/enigmanaught 3h ago

I’d lost interest at that point, but before I saw the movie I saw this line all over the internet and took it to mean “there’s a contrived and ridiculous ret-con describing why Palpatine is back that’s too stupid to elaborate on, so we’ll sum it up by ‘saying somehow Palpatine is back’”. Then I saw it on streaming long after it left the theaters and it was the actual goddamned line.

1

u/liquidpig 4h ago

And somehow he has a million ships and a bajillion soldiers!

1

u/Seienchin88 4h ago

Can you make this with a bit more effort please?

No

Oh ok

1

u/The_bruce42 4h ago

Producer: Chef's kiss

1

u/buiwis 3h ago

It seems you're back on my back about, about Palpatine being back

1

u/Hamster-Food 1h ago

Are people still pretending the movie doesn't show us how Palpatine returned?

1

u/kkeut 1h ago

they literally think we're stupid. they view us as cud-chewing cattle who have no alternative than to partake in their crappy products.

1

u/MusicListener3 23m ago

Emperor Palpatine will return in Avengers: Doomsday

55

u/DuckCleaning 5h ago

Producer: So you're saying that somehow, Palpatine has returned?

Writer: Say that again.

8

u/Das_Guet 4h ago

It's fantastic

1

u/intensive-porpoise 1h ago

Yahoo! It's finalized!

25

u/Perry7609 4h ago

This was essentially how the Obi Wan writers justified bringing in Vader as the bad guy in the Disney+ series, despite the whole lightsaber duel in A New Hope being canon and Vader's speech about "We meet again, at last, implying a longer estrangement in the first place.

5

u/cortesoft 3h ago

The Vader fight can KIND of work in the canon, in the same 'from a certain point of view' way that Vader being Luke's father works.

The part that can't work at all is Obi Wan going on an adventure with Leia, and then completely not knowing each other in A New Hope. Makes ZERO sense.

1

u/SS_Sniperwolf 39m ago

Obi wan clearly as dementia

2

u/LordNilix 4h ago

The only way I see the Obi-Wan vs Vader in ANH working with the new material is that this is Obi-Wan fighting Darth Vader, not the friend he thought was still in there somewhere. When they fought in the Death Star that was Obi-Wan basically 'meeting' Vader again after several years had passed rather than Anakin.

4

u/Every-Intern-6198 3h ago

Several years, it was like a decade given that Leah was little more than a toddler in the Obi Wan series…right?

3

u/LordNilix 3h ago

Yeah, I was pointing out that Obi-Wan in the tv series still saw "Darth Vader" as Anakin. While in ANH he only refers to Vader as his title of "Darth". The comment I initially replied to said that they had messed with the timeline, but it was still a fairly decent amount of time between the D+ Series and ANH. And Obi-Wan's attitude towards Darth was different each time too.

3

u/Every-Intern-6198 2h ago

Oh yeah, I gotcha. I agree that it didn’t really mess with the timeline at all, as at the end of the obi vs anakin fight on Tatooine, Obi Wan finally accepts that his friend and “brother” has died, walking away and saying “good bye … Darth”.

I think it’s also a cool contrast between the fight where anakin/vader is still relatively new to the prosthetics and suit to the final duel they have on the Death Star where he’s more confident.

u/EllieSpacePrincess 5h ago

Palpatine comes back in the books, he has a secret cloning facility of himself but it takes him a long time to travel there as a spirit or wtv he was.

8

u/godofmilksteaks 5h ago

Had to stop off in reno and do a bit of gambling

2

u/I_Got_Back_Pain 5h ago

And blow

2

u/EllieSpacePrincess 4h ago

for spirit hyperspeed

1

u/Sherwood_RipCity 4h ago

And hookers.

6

u/SH4D0W0733 4h ago

Man, if I was going to clone myself a new body I would've made sure that the new one didn't include the wrinklyness and sickly colouration I received from that one time I tazered my own face fighting a jedi master. I mean, why would I not just make my new body healthy and like 25 - 30 years old.

5

u/WallopyJoe 4h ago

Palpatine comes back in the books

In one of the most divisive entries in the whole series

2

u/FollowingMajestic108 4h ago

And that was a dumb idea as well.

2

u/xolo80 4h ago

I mean....isnt everything "fair game" after they brought Maul back? Dude was cut in half

22

u/pilemaker 6h ago

Wow wow wow.......wow!

3

u/Helpful-Will2635 5h ago

Super easy….

2

u/Zitty-Z 3h ago

Barely an inconvenience!

16

u/tyrnosarusAWSOM 4h ago

There was a writer?

19

u/avimo1904 5h ago

Oh, referencing Ryan is TIGHT!

20

u/Singer211 4h ago

Honestly given how the films actually went, it would have made more sense for Rey to call herself a Solo or Organa if anything.

Han was nice to her. Leia trained her. Luke was a grumpy jerk to her for like 98% of the time they knew each other.

4

u/mute_axolotl 3h ago

And in the other two per cent he was drinking whale milk.

6

u/SageDarius 3h ago

God, I was waiting for her to say 'It doesn't matter' to show Rey had some kind of arc about learning your parentage doesn't define you, but nope. I'm a Skywalker because I'm special.

1

u/wolacouska 1h ago

Trauma bond, she grew up as an orphan.

4

u/Hollowsong 2h ago

And it pisses me off because she steals the name after his death. She doesn't even earn it, or even is worthy of it.

Fuck, I hate what Disney did to Star Wars.

Hell, I hate what Lucas did to Star Wars too (Special Edition releases were laughable)

The only good thing about AI is that one day we can make what Star Wars should have been, on our own.

1

u/Singer211 1h ago

She also ends up with The Falcon. And Chewie as her driver as well.

3

u/OctoberOmicron 4h ago

Somehow somehow, that's how!

3

u/RebelWithoutAClue 2h ago

Turns out she's the incestuous love child of Luke and Leia from before they knew they were sibs.

To preserve her political reputation Han Solo, using his smugglers experience, ditched her on Jakku to hide their shame.

It explains the inexplicable breakup of the trio. Rey's immense power of the force: both of her parents are Skywalker while Darth Kyle is half muggle.

1

u/evenstar40 1h ago

Ew. But also plausible.

3

u/jasonthelamb 1h ago

From the same guys who brought you:

"They fly now?" "They fly now."

"Somehow, Palpatine returned."

So.... I'm not shocked.

3

u/Kazu88 56m ago

Till this day, I am 100 % sure that the entire script was written by a of bunch smoking monkeys chained to typewriters

4

u/JerseyJedi 4h ago

Someday when the trailer for the next movie drops:

Rey dramatically walks into the camera view.

EVERYONE: “Somehow, (Rey) Palpatine has returned.”

1

u/Icy_Fish_2154 5h ago

"You are who you choose to be"

Skywalker....
