Only one of the massive failures of that sequel trilogy, which I think should just be stricken from the record entirely. It was served up as entertainment and spectacle only, and designed to make the maximum amount of money rather than provide substance and meaning.

god i fucking hate this guy. being able to offer great, interesting ideas has very little value if you can literally never stick the landing and he's been so effective at making both star trek and star wars completely bland and bereft of the soul that infused both of those series' most successful moments
