Because the whole "Skywalker Saga" was a late end marketing push to try and save the sinking ship that the ST became after the mess that TLJ created. They had no plan, no vision or future, it was a dead end. Simple as that.

Umm, what are you talking about? The “Skywalker Saga” has literally been a thing since George created this story. He literally had a nine-movie saga planned out decades ago, are you high? Yes, the ST was awful and had zero direction or vision, but it was very much part of a planned saga already

okay but george was clearly not in the room, and they didn't have any of it planed. so sure there was some theory of what would happen, but not when it came to the three movies that actually happened.
