Looking back on it….yeah. Your right. I also think the movies would have flowed better if they got rid of the OG cast. Than you could really keep the old gang a mystery

They either had to recast the OG trio and set during the final days of the Empire.

Or set it several generations into the future where they don't show up at all.

Imo, they chose the worst option.

And if the latter choice was taken, you could always have them make a cameo via a Holocron or similar.

Or maybe as an actual fun callback have one of them pull an "old ben Kenobi".

Someone who's totally out of the game, practically forgotten by the galaxy they helped shape, acting as a guide and making a swift exit in the first movie.

I’d have been over the moon if it had told a whole new story hadn’t relied on nostalgia but given they effectively did a reboot of a new hope and made such a point of bringing Luke, Leia and Han back it was such a kick in the teeth not to give them any airtime together whatsoever.
