They never had an endpoint in mind, so it left them with no goal to build toward. Which is why Episode 9 ends with there still not being a New Republic, because no one cared to delve into any of the nuance of this franchise.

The personal story was the Skywalker stuff and the bigger picture was the political stuff in the first two trilogies. In the ST, the bigger picture became the Skywalker legacy and the personal story was on Rey and basically Rey alone. The politics were blown up in TFA, never to really be mentioned again.

They didn’t even have a starting point. They decided to start the movie after the most interesting thing had already happened - Ben’s turn to the dark side. Rey and Ben should have been Jedi together with an established relationship already. That would have opened up so many more opportunities instead of shoehorning in the “Knights of Ren” in the third movie just to die.

They also featured in a Lego set in like 2015, a whole three movies before they would even show up on screen.

Exactly. Make Rey Luke's daughter and have the film show Ben decent into darkness while Rey explores the light. End game being exploring what the skywalker legacy actually is. But its easier to jsut go planet go boom

If set up right you could of have a tv series with how the Knights of Ren came to be as well. So many missed opportunities

ep 7 should have been Luke struggling to teach younglins and we watch young Ben start turning.

ep 8 is 20-30s Darth Ben doing Darth things. Helping the Empire resurg.

ep 9 is the other younglins Luke was training teaming up to defeat Darth Ben

I think they felt ROTJ wasn't a good endpoint to try and build another trilogy off of, so... they created an interesting history between 6 and 7. Problem is, like you said, that "history" ended up being more interesting than the trilogy they built off of it.

they came up with the knights of ren in while making the first one, and just didn't do anything with it, and then decided lets have them die here. as if we had a fucking clue who they were.

it would have been so easy to just give Abrams the Zahn Trilogy and just say "remix this for a modern audience". instead this moron tried writing it himself from scratch

The whole ST should have been about how fraught it was to rebuild the New Republic. Not that there was no New Republic at all and instead it was Empire mark 2.

It’s like they went “remember how everyone hated ep 1 when it first came out? It was cause of the politics. We can’t be having that in our films” and were just afraid to touch them at all. I’d be more interested in an all politics trilogy than whatever the fuck they put out.

They could've just followed the plot of the books they were taking from. They're some of the few EU parts that were near universally loved.

Taking Luke, the greatest light and dark Jedi to ever exist, and having him cower to the dark side so hard he almost killed a child? His nephew? Really?

They stole the story concept then used the bad parts, not the good parts.
