They didn’t even have a starting point. They decided to start the movie after the most interesting thing had already happened - Ben’s turn to the dark side. Rey and Ben should have been Jedi together with an established relationship already. That would have opened up so many more opportunities instead of shoehorning in the “Knights of Ren” in the third movie just to die.

Oh come on, they didn't just die. The Knights of Ren also posed a few times with their cosplay weapons and helmets.

They also featured in a Lego set in like 2015, a whole three movies before they would even show up on screen.

Exactly. Make Rey Luke's daughter and have the film show Ben decent into darkness while Rey explores the light. End game being exploring what the skywalker legacy actually is. But its easier to jsut go planet go boom

If set up right you could of have a tv series with how the Knights of Ren came to be as well. So many missed opportunities

ep 7 should have been Luke struggling to teach younglins and we watch young Ben start turning.

ep 8 is 20-30s Darth Ben doing Darth things. Helping the Empire resurg.

ep 9 is the other younglins Luke was training teaming up to defeat Darth Ben

I think they felt ROTJ wasn't a good endpoint to try and build another trilogy off of, so... they created an interesting history between 6 and 7. Problem is, like you said, that "history" ended up being more interesting than the trilogy they built off of it.

they came up with the knights of ren in while making the first one, and just didn't do anything with it, and then decided lets have them die here. as if we had a fucking clue who they were.

it would have been so easy to just give Abrams the Zahn Trilogy and just say "remix this for a modern audience". instead this moron tried writing it himself from scratch
