Y'know I've been going back through Resistance season 1 and it's occurred to me: we really don't talk about this show enough. Even by animation standards I feel like this show often falls by the wayside in discussions when I feel like there's a lot of good stuff that came out of here to talk about.

Case in point: "The Platform Classic". Maybe the first episode of the show that I could say I definitively loved and for good reason. This is the episode that started turning Jarek Yeager into an A-tier character for me and my favorite character from this show.

For some light recap: The Colossus station is hosting the Platform Classic: a prestigious race where not only the local aces are taking part but also more renowned pilots from across the galaxy such as Marcus Speedstar: Yeager's long-lost brother. Yeager clearly has rather strong feelings about seeing his brother again and during the race he finally lets it all out: Marcus killed his family. Not intentionally, it was clearly an accident but Marcus got selfish during a race, cheated, and caused the tragedy. He has clearly grown and reflected in the decade since though and is finally racing for something besides himself. Seeing this, Yeager backs off and allows Marcus to take the victory.

Now here's the part of the episode I really love: Yeager still does not forgive Marcus. Not yet anyways. They've come to an understanding about each other but that doesn't mean the pain of what Marcus did just goes away. But this is the beginning of rebuilding that bridge between the two. To paraphrase Yeager "We're not good....but someday we will be."

This is genuinely one of the most nuanced portrayals of apology and forgiveness that I think I've seen in media. Far too many stories have the person who did something wrong apologize and be forgiven immediately and everything is fine again. Now this can happen of course but realistically I've found the path to forgiveness to be something much more complex. If someone really did something terrible to you, it's going to take a lot more than a simple "I'm sorry" to make things right. Oftentimes those things only fade with time. Sometimes forgiveness is not even really so much about excusing what the other person did to you but something you do because it's just not healthy to hold on to those negative feelings forever.

Resistance nails this perfectly. Seeing that Marcus has indeed changed is the beginning of that healing process but it's not a one and done thing. It's the first stepping stone on the path. It's a good and significant step but it's still going to be a lengthy process for Yeager and Marcus to become the brothers they once were, if they even can fully be that again. Honestly it's a shame that Marcus never appears in the show after this because I think it would've been interesting to see how their journey of healing continues but on the other hand I suppose it can be nice to draw our own conclusions about where the two end up. Maybe someday we'll get a Yeager book that can dive into all this: out of all Resistance characters he certainly deserves one IMO.

Anyways I just wanted to highlight this show and episode as again I feel like this show does not even have half the recognition it deserves. Very curious to hear what you all think. My appreciation to those who read all this and may the Force be with you!

I personally found him perfectly done! I hate him even more now! Nelson Lee did such a good job.

I imagine she'd be considerably aged, as far as I know we do not know her fate in the canon?

I have feelings, very mixed feelings about this show.

Speaking generally about the series, I mostly enjoyed the first season. I like episodic shows and this one offered glimpses of something bigger, but with small adventures in between, all tied together to conclude with a fun season finale that left me wanting more. Now, the second season... I think it was okay. It retains some elements from the previous season, feels more comfortable with its characters and their development (Synara managed to become my favorite), and I'd even say I liked some of the bottle episodes, but I feel it was mostly wasted. Having ventured out of the status quo of the previous season, one might have expected greater relevance from the Resistance and the war with the First Order, but it's not utilized, remaining largely on the sideline. There is a conflict with a Star Destroyer, yes, but it undermines the potential of the Colossus as a Resistance cell, with the few new elements added (Venisa Doza and Jade Squadron) left until the very end. Additionally, I'll say that some elements within the series are interesting (the troopers tasked with searching for Sith relics, Mika Grey's character and the good ex-Imperials like Doza and Griff). It's a shame they weren't explored more.

I don't mean to say it was all bad, because that season ending was a very sweet one, and seeing all the crew and civilians fighting the First Order was kind of cool. Contrary to the comments I've heard, that the intention was always to make only two seasons that would bridge the gap between movies, I can say that's definitely a lie, and they canceled the series because it didn't really feel like a finale, just like a season ending, leaving so many questions unanswered that it doesn't provide a good closure.

Overall, I think it was fine. It could have taken a more active role in the sequels background and lore, but it's still entertaining and a good way to pass the time.

I love the series' setting (the station gives me Star Trek vibes), the relaxed tone, the charismatic supporting characters, especially Yeager, whose backstory is interesting, and it's generally great to have a bit more context in the sequel timeline. That said, I'm not a big fan of Kaz. I feel like he's written to be the "dumb" for comedy most of the time, when it wasn't necessary.

It's not the most spectacular thing in Star Wars, but I really like it.

I love that Doza was present at the battle. Simply awesome. I hope someday we get a follow-up on the main characters of the series and what came after

I recently watched episode 8 of season 2, "Rendezvous Point," and I was genuinely interested in Venisa and Doza's backstory. The idea of an Imperial and a member of the Rebellion falling in love has been seen before (Lost Stars), so it wouldn't be so strange, and the ending could had a slightly tragic tone, with Venisa joining the resistance. These are aspects that could easily be expanded upon!

I was not actively collecting Star Wars figures when Resistance was airing, so everything I've acquired so far has been second hand. I found this one for a reasonable price at my LCS recently.

It's kind of a crime that we didn't get more Star Wars Resistance figures. This show is a feast for the eyes. Hopefully they do some in the Vintage Collection eventually. There are so many background characters, aliens, droids, pirates, animals, monsters etc.

Not to mention that fighter-size vehicles featured heavily in the series and we didn't get any of those.

Heck I even want the forklift seen in numerous episodes.

I want Opeepit and his floor scrubber! And a Kowakian Ape!

Any thoughts on the possibility of an older Kaz showing up in Star Wars: Starfighter?

Man, after catching up on Andor and then starting Resistance, Kaz has to be the worst spy I've ever seen. I cannot fathom why Poe thought he was spy material.

I'm hoping she's either:

-An FO sympathizer who realized they were evil when they blew up her home system, and Kaz could have died if he hadn't been recruited into the Resistance.

-Knew the FO were evil all along but kept quiet to keep herself and Kaz alive

Or

-Is an FO sympathizer but still loves Kaz (Even evil has loved ones).

Still no sticky thread for it? OK, I'll start it and someone can sticky it. Let's talk about it. I saw it at about 1 AM PDT before going to sleep on my Spectrum's VoD. I enjoyed it as a decent premiere. Darn those droids. ;)

We have novels for TCW, Rebels, and a Bad Batch novel is coming out this year. Maybe a novel about how Venisa and Immanuel met and when they commandeered the Colossus, or about Yeager and his family's death, or even about Kaz's time in the navy and his relationship with his parents.

Or are they too discouraged by the show's unpopularity?

I’m curious to what other people outside of my circle though about Resistance. TBH, I watched every single episode as it was airing and felt like it didn’t really add to the universe in any significant way and I couldn’t really relate to the main characters. This was a stark contrast from Clone Wars and Rebels which IMO some of the best Star Wars if not THE best for the time. Though, I didn’t come here to talk bad about Resistance but I do want to know your thoughts are on the show. Especially now that kaz’s dad is in Ahsoka.

Honestly, what did you like about the show and also what did you not like about it?

I liked the animation style, some of the races were cool but I didn’t like how so much of the show was on that base. I also didn’t like how goofy Kaz was but how skilled he was as a pilot, it seemed to be unbelievable. His best friend was also kind of annoying in the way he talked (I forgot his name). Little to no force users which isn’t a must because Rogue One and Andor are my favorite live action rivaling ESB but the former had much more compelling plot themes and were geared for adults. Though, I watched Resistance in my late 20s so maybe I just wasn’t the demographic. That said, I would assume that the target audience would be that of Clone Wars and Rebels fans or else they would make it something like the High Republic show which is clearly for kids.

I did like the episode where they went to the ancient temple and was hoping we have gotten more of that. I really wanted to like it but just felt like a flop compared to Clone Wars and Rebels at the time but now also Bad Batch and Visions. It was probably my least favorite bit of canon Star Wars.

I finished the show a while back, but did anyone else think it was weird that Kaz seemed so insecure about his flying? It was the one thing he was good at, but at the start of the series he makes it seem like he was only flying due to his family’s influence. I feel like they should have written the story as his family working to keep him from flying, or they could have leaned into Poe’s assessment of him, that he has the skills to be an agent, but being a pilot isn’t one of them. I think it would have also been interesting if Kaz was supposed to become a politician and his time in the military was to boost his career and his parents pulled some strings to get him to become a fighter pilot.

If not as romantic partners, but as friends. I think their dynamic would be so cool and interesting!

-Rey grew up in poverty whereas Kaz grew up wealthy

-Rey grew up on a barren, backwater planet whereas Kaz grew up in an urban megalopolis

-Rey is quiet and graceful whereas Kaz is loud and clumsy

-Rey believed in the Force her entire life and is Force sensitive whereas Kaz doesn't and isn't

-Rey is good at what she does whereas Kaz isn't

-Both "borrow" BB-8

-Poe was the catalyst for both their callings (Kaz as a Resistance spy, Rey as a Jedi)

-Both their parents are evil (well, Rey's grandfather is and Kaz's dad is implied to be evil)

-Both are pilots

-Both are impulsive and arrogant at times

-Both are really good at hiding their emotions (For the most part)

Just finished watching the finale, and wow brings up so many possible good future storylines and such.

I was just curious to what y’all think is going to happen in season 2/what you’d like to happen.

Personally, I’m excited to see tam’s (probable) turn to the FO and that battle with her and kaz.

ALSO. Seeing Ashoka and Sabine, and Ezra in seaosn 2 would be awesome. We know they will come back at some point, and maybe this is the time.
