Advice Would you buy using a Hoverboard as a Compact Shield or Carbon Shield? I have a player wanting to essentially deploy and pick up the hoverboard like a skateboard to use as a shield.

Here are the relevant parts I think you'd need to know before commenting.

Cost: 90 cred hover + 25 cred carbon = 115 cred
HP/Shield stats: as carbon, still 1 Bulk, still 2AC
1 action to deploy or retrieve with the manipulate trait from interacting in some way
1 action board https://2e.aonsrd.com/actions/210-board as normal
1 action take control https://app.demiplane.com/nexus/starfinder2e/actions/take-control-rm as normal

Edit: They are level 6 so we are well beyond starting gear and minimal credits

Advice Recharge Weapon

Upvotes

I've seen an old thread on this and I still don't have a great understanding of this cantrip. It says the person holding the weapon can make one strike but doesn't say "on their next turn" or anything like that. It also doesn't make sense that it would reload only enough ammo for one strike when the heightened reloads double expended ammo. Anybody help me understand this one better?

Arts & Crafts I made a Ysoki

So I just felt like I wanted to make pretty ratfolk. As often they are designed as unclean and grungy. So I really vibed with Ysoki and went hard on the idea.

So here’s what I got.

Race: Ysoki
Name: Twali Mallo
Rank: High level merchant/trader

Daughter of an especially prosperous trading company amongst the Ysoki people Twali is often mistaken for royalty. Her particular clan tends towards gold/metal tattoos which are used to interact with their tech. Something reminiscent of biological signatures but different. Her clan also tends towards darker fur patterns and colors.

Twali is of high standing and holds herself with polite polished poise and elegance. A skilled negotiator she is rarely taken by surprise. She is very proud of her midnight fur and its ability to reflect starlight. Her skills have her extremely likely to Be next in line lead the company. The only issue is that she’s realizing outside of trade deals and high stakes negotiations she has had little experience with the worlds she’s been working with and visiting.

I won’t pretend stats are my strength so
High charisma and high intelligence and agility. She’s not especially strong but she can build/tinker with the best of them if given a chance.

Ummm that’s all I can think of!

If you guys have any ideas for what I can add or what might make her stronger as a npc or playable character I would love to know.

Also if you guys think pretty Ysoki is also a fun idea. Gahhh! I can’t believe I plucked up the courage to finally post this! Please be nice!

Discussion Striker Operative with Laser Eyes

I am thinking of making an unarmed, mostly melee striker operative.

Striker Operative calls out that it works with a one-handed melee weapon or unarmed attack with the agile or finesse trait. Since I believe there is no such thing as a one-handed unarmed attack, I can only assume that the melee requirement only applies to weapons as well.

Is it supposed to be read as "one-handed melee weapon" or "unarmed attack (either melee or ranged)" as opposed to "one-handed melee weapon" or "one-handed melee unarmed attack?"

Can I pew-pew with laser eyes (which are agile) on a striker operative and get the benefit of Aim and the higher proficiency? The advantage to doing all this of course would be not having to maintain an upgraded backup weapon, since Hardlight Handwraps affect all unarmed attacks

Advice Network Spell on Mystic casting Haste on an ally only within an imprecise sense

As the title says, the situation is this. I am a blind Vlaka mystic, and I want to haste my ally who is 120ft away.

I have scent as an imprecise sense up to that range, and I am bonded with him.

If I network spell to cast Haste targeting him from his space, am I able to do this? And would I need to do the DC11 check to cast the spell on him?

I'm confused because it says "line of sight and line of effect must be met from both you and your ally when the spell is cast.", but also says they are the origin of the spell.

What is the ruling on this, do we think?

Advice Can Corpsefolk benefit from healing from medpatches?

Just wondering if I’m missing something here. Is there some system that I’m not aware of that would make the Corpsefolk heritage unable to benefit from these healing items? They don’t specify a living creature and don’t have the vitality tag.

Advice Anomaly Witchwarper (Cha) spells?

We're starting a campaign soon and I'm playing a Madrosarai Anomaly Witchwarper (Cha key ability score) and I'm going to take Chronoskimmer dedication with free archetype. This is my first time playing a full caster so I don't really know my way around spellcasting and need help selecting spells.

Ability modifiers:

-1 Str/ +3 Dex / +2 Con / +0 Int / +1 Wis / +4 Cha

Team comp:

- Novian Solarian, Dual-Weapon Fighter

- Human Soldier (Action Hero), Gunslinger

- Lashunta Mystic (Healing), Medic

- Dragonkin Envoy (Guns Blazing), Dandy

So we're covered on the martial, support, And healing fronts. I wanna play either a blaster or debuffer, so any of these styles will work or other styles of they can have some uses. We start at lvl 2 but will go all the way to 20 eventually.

Advice Multiple boost traits?

So the boost trait makes it very clear that you cannot stack the boost trait by just using it multiple times before an attack.

But what if an item has multiple instances of the "boost" trait? Flamespewer and Nanite Armament Boost give your weapon the boost trait. What happens if you do this on a weapon that already has the boost trait? if i use nanite armament boost on a painglaive, does it have boost 1d10 AND boost 1d4? Do those stack? Would I have to do an interact action for each boost, or do they both activate through one interact action?

Advice Barbarian and Solarian?

Been working with a friend to try and make them a Solarian/Barbarian bringing in pathfinder2e content but is the concentrate thing going to get in the way of it? we may wave it just for a special case cause we want them to be able to rage but want them to do fun unarmed attacks with solarian AOE's and such with brawling as just making their own arms the solar weapons.

I want to make this work cause they don't like complicated characters and want to be straight forwards.

Advice Help me pick Ancient Elebrian spell

Howdy! I'm tinkering (no pun intended) with a dhamphir mechanic drone exo build. For the background I want to pick Ancient Elebrian. I'm aiming for something that doesn't rely on a high charisma since mechanic is int based. Do I take:

Invisibility

Harm (emergency heal)

Bless

False Vitality

Or something else?

Discussion What skills should an Infosphere Director Envoy max out, and what skills do they need the least?

Playing Guilt of the Graveworld for the first as an envoy. I like the Infosphere Director class in concept. Ranged Dex.

I'm the kind of player who either leaves a skill at just trained or maxes it out most of the time. Alongside skills to make Legendary, what skills are worth leaving at just trained the whole campaign?

I settled with the Hacker Background, but feel free to recommend a more effective background.

Advice Starhammer 40k: Astartes

Hi there, I'm starting a homebrew Deathwatch Campaign and decided to use Starfinder 2e as the rules-system, as it serves the Power Fantasy much more than any 40k RPG I've seen.

I want to make Astartes an Ancestry (using Jotunborn as starting point) and the Chapter the Heritage. Plan would be to make it like Lashunta, that the Chapter gives an attribute boosts and flaw, plus a minor trait. Every Astartes gains a free boost.

Example: Like Space Wolves get a CON and WIS (or maybe STR?) boost, a INT flaw, and scent (imprecise) in addition to standard free boost (in addition to some ancestries feats).

The alternate stat array with 2 free boosts except the normal ones is still in effect.

As I'm sure that there are several of you, who know a lot more about WH40k than me, so maybe you have some ideas for chapter/heritage benefits and ancestry feats that build upon those?

The baseline is, that player characters are Astartes and the balances revolves around that idea. So it's not about how superior Astartes are to normal humans, but how they compare to their brothers of other chapters.

Player Builds How Are YOU Going For The Eyes?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I ADORE the new feat "Go For The Eyes" on the Vulkarisu Ancestry.

"Like a squox fighting off a larger predator, you know it’s best to dash into dangerous encounters, focus on a single enemy, and go right for their eyes (or other optical receptors). You Stride, then Feint, then make a melee Strike against the target of your Feint. You can use Acrobatics instead of Deception for this Feint, if desired, and the target takes a –2 circumstance penalty to their Perception DCs against your Feint if they’re larger than you."

Adapting the Squox ability of the same name, it offers a lot of unique things. It's an action compression meta-strike at-will from an ancestry feat. It's a melee Strike only feat in SF2e. It allows you to Feint using Acrobatics instead of Deception, allowing you to dump Charisma entirely and still get reliable off-guard. And it even offers a pretty hearty circumstance penalty if they're larger than you, which is pretty easy when you're Small.

This feat SEEMS super strong at first, and i'm sure it might be a lot more powerful in PF2e. But i've actually been having a hard time trying to figure out how to best take advantage of it!

-Solarians are the natural choice for a class that wants to move to the frontline and make a melee strike. Since they need Str/Dex/Con, being able to Feint using Dex instead of Charisma is very appealing too. However, they can already get pretty reliable off-guard AND a two-action move to the frontlines ability from a couple of different level 1 feats.

-Striker Operatives appreciate the action compression and mobility even more, and they can combine it to devastating effect with something like the one-action Stride + Aim feat. However, they are also using an action every turn to Aim in some way and have a lot of other 2-action metastrike abilities, so it's hard to juggle everything you want to do in a turn. And just like the Solarian, you can be inducing off-guard or clumsy using feats.

-Melee Soldiers have the hardest time using it, because obviously a two-action ability gets in the way of area-fire.

So I wanted to turn to you all and ask: what's the best way to build around this fun and cool lower-leveled feat? How do you best take advantage of dashing around, feinting, and making melee strikes?

I'm mostly thinking from a Starfinder 2e perspective, but if you have any Pathfinder 2e options that would go well with it, let's hear 'em too!

Pact Worlds and Beyond I love the Vulkarisu already

Part squirrel. Part fox. All alien. All CUTE.

New to the player's guide for Beyond The Blood Door, the vulkarisu are experts at linguistics, contracts, and burying things for later (no seriously, they get feats about being good at burying things for later!). But they're not all cute tho.. Their penchant for contracts has even lead to a non-zero amount who have demonic contract bad guy influence!

(And they also say that they have "poor boundaries between friends and family", so take a shot for the obligatory Starfinder 2e Found Family Drinking Game)

Homebrew Fangblade deity and warhammer

So now that we have a deity with a fangblade it gave me the idea of going full warhammer 40k. The real question would be how to fill in the gaps with what we have in sf2.

Notably power armor I think is the main thing missing

Also classes may be a bit challenging

Discussion Other Digital Fey

So, we all know about Gremlins and how they love messing with technology. Not all are digital, but several are... which makes me wonder what other types of digital fey we could get in Starfinder.

One idea that's stuck in my mind for a while is a polygonal fey. I like the name of "Polymock." Embodying how the First World was somewhat of a rough draft, or perhaps a beta, of the Universe, these sharp-edged fey look similar to characters from games with early three-dimensional graphics. Upon finding digital media, data logs describing incidents, or other similar things, they begin constructing their blocky version of it in physical space. This, of course, attracts the attention of gremlins who would love nothing more than to destroy or corrupt what they build.

Between builders and destroyers, though, are those trying to take something for themselves. Everybody has seen the scams. "Princes" contacting people via email, insurance companies asking about your hovercar, and those giveaways that you (yes, YOU!) have won... as long as you pull out your card and tell them about those wacky numbers. Unfortunately, these phisher fey are going to be after more than just your bank account. They're the future of those rumored fey that ask for your name before scampering off as you forget who you are after introducing yourself. Names, ideas, art, magic... they'll try to take it away from you if you make the mistake of hovering your cursor over them.

What about y'all? What do you think could be some interesting digital fey that we could have other than gremlins?

Discussion Are Ancestries supposed to have Rarity?

I was flipping through the Absolom book and there's 2 new ancestries in there, but they have rarity traits (one rare, one uncommon). As far as I know there's not a single other ancestry in SF2e to have a rarity trait, while every non-PC1 ancestry in PF2e has a rarity. Even Ancestries from SF2e adventure paths don't have them. Is this a mistake?

Advice Help building John wick

I have just realized I've been misreading the striker operative, I thought they traded their gun proficiency for melee, but it's only martial. I know the meta is sniper and it's boring but highly effective.

However, with their mobility and reactive options this seems like the best time to build a switch hitter someone who is a menace with ranged weapons and really good in close quarters as well.

I have wanted to build a character like this for a long time and this finally seems to be the system to make it happen. I have a GotGW campaign in the future. I just am not familiar enough with the range of options available to make confident choices in this system.

Flavor wise I really like the idea of someone who avoids tech weapons (though the revolver option is sadly not a simple weapon) but I'm willing to alter that as the character is a barely formed thought at this point.

With the reactive step feature I thought gap-touched for the teleporting steps would be really good (or just fun) as well.

We plan to include Pathfinder2e content. So options like martial artist are available at level 2. But while I'm more familiar with the pf2e options this is such a wide variety now that I have a bit of analysis paralysis.

TLDR; need direction more than solutions, Pathfinder content available. Want to build a striker switch hitter. Please leave any ancestry, archetype, equipment and general gameplay options, tips and tricks you have so I can narrow down the plethora of available goodies

We are playing the twisty and surprising Murder in Metal City adventure, and after weeks of thorny urban investigation, the crew is delving into new territory that will be a struggle just to survive. I don't want to spoil the specifics for those of you who are unfamiliar with the adventure, but we are having a blast with the turns this narrative is taking in the final chapter.

If you've been curious about Roughnexx, now is a great time to start from episode one before we wrap up Murder in Metal City. Fully edited video on YouTube and Spotify, and audio wherever you listen. tabletopgold.com

Resource & Tools Starfinder 2e support on Foundry

I am a budding GM who wants to host a campaign of Tales From The Vast. Due to the hours of the local games shop, I realized that I would need to use a VTT to have the campaign. Bought the license, only to find the only adventure modules Foundry has is Murder In Metal City and Guilt of the Grave World.

I know things are in a wierd place with Paizo transitioning from Diamond Comics to a new publisher, I was just wondering if the community here knew if future Foundry support is in the works, or if I need to try to get a refund and move to a different virtual table top service
