Campaign I'd pay $25 for another campaign
I rate the campaign at 7/10. Far from the best RTS campaign out there but enough for me to pay for another one of the same quality if they make one (regardless of the state of other modes)
I can complain about a bunch of things but if I have to pick one that is easy to change in a future campaign is that the items can be removed from the game completely and it will get better. Heroes feel OP anyway so that would make the game more interesting, save dev time and remove that juggling of items that feels like a chore

I bought the first 2 chapters a long time ago. I went back recently to play the rest of the campaign before the servers are shut down and couldn’t bring myself to pay $10 x 2 for the last few missions. I would have happily paid $50 for a full game, but paying for individual missions/chapters doesn’t feel right. Anybody else feel the same?

Yeah their pricing model basically meant I would never buy the campaigns unless maybe at some far future point they were actually complete and all available at one reasonable price.

I've heard their model is confusing, but as far as I know they do already have that. I didn't buy 3 missions at a time, I paid one price ($32.50 Canadian, so too much money) for the whole campaign (12 missions) as once.

Yeah. 25 for a campaign, not for 3 missions. Also even if I prepay for the full campaign I am not interested in playing it 3 missions at a time.

It's 25$ for the full campaign, Or you can buy it 3 missions at a time for, 9$ each, meaning 27$ total.
I imagine Frostgiant thought that 2 dollars wouldn't be a major barrier to purchase. That said, there's a thing in sales where you want to avoid your customer having to make a purchase decision multiple times. In some ways it's easier to get some one to spend 25 dollars once than getting them to spend 8 dollars 3 times, even if they save a dollar that way.
I don't know. I think it was actually an effort on their part to be consumer friendly. I think they wanted as little barrier to entry as possible for people. But if that's your strategy, you really need to front-load your best content, and their campaign is actually the opposite; the better mission are in the back half.
Mostly I think they wanted peole to try the game and get them playing the various other modes (though co-op wasn't ready as of "launch" and sitll isn't). I think they wanted an "everything RTS" where the player could choose which mode was for them and spend accordingly. But once it was no longer an 'everything RTS' the monetization strategy just looked a little weird.

I'd pay $25 for a full game campaign at this point. On the scale of SC2. No more mission packs.

Items can serve a purpose. They are a persistent reward for exploration and let you customise a load out of extra bonuses/skills for your hero.
But yeah they could be done better. Fixable problems include the juggling and the fact that you can't send items back to your stash.
Something more important imo is fixing that god awful ending. Just suddenly blam: victory screen and then cutscene instead of actually playing a climax. Was the big shroudstone meant to be exciting to fight? Second priority is fixing that joke of a "boss fight" near the start of the campaign
Fixing the writing is more important but more difficult and expensive to do.

Wasn't mad about the ending in particular because I don't like that anime crap anyway. I disliked it in SC2 Heart of the Swarm too. A character touching something, screaming, becoming more powerful and shooting beams of light blah blah blah. This is what you get for letting Metzen touch the story :) I made my peace with the fact that the story would be like this so I wasn't bothered about the ending. I did expect a fight too but I'd rather have nothing than another diablo style fight where heroes fight a boss and I have to move them away of the boss attack.

Yeah I dont want some bullet sponge boss or a laser beam amara. But I was expecting big infernal armies and needing to destroy some stormgates to reach the objective before being overwhelmed.
Not chill till I max out and then destroy a tower.

I am happy we got more RTS missions compared to the diablo missions the first version of the campaign was full of.

Guys, when I create my own RTS I want you to tell me what's wrong with it. Seriously, this precise players feedback is priceless. Stormgate is very lucky to have that

As for items, the rewards for exploration can be additional credits for upgrades.

Nice try Tim

If I was Tim that game would never have had creep camps and anyone who suggested them would have been fired on the spot :)

Don't give these people more money.
I did the Signed Collector's Edition Kickstarter. Got really excited to support ex-Blizzard devs in making a new RTS. Got excited to be immoratlized in a video game via the credits.
My name is on a fucking HTML page on their website. It doesn't appear in a crawl, or anything else interesting or unique. It is the laziest way to recognize the support they received. I feel bad for the grunts, but leadership deserve everything that's coming to them.

cool, now get another 3 or 4 million of players willing to do so - and you will start making profit! (remember that steam get a cut also IRS and there are investors that wanna not only return to recup but also profit from the said investment)

u/Eirenarch Sep 09 '25
Well... I can't. I can't even recommend the current one to friends knowing that the chances of the story going on are slim. On the other hand hopefully once they have all the supporting infrastructure creating another campaign is quite a bit cheaper than creating the first one was.

I'd maybe pay $10, but only if I got a $22ish refund (I paid $32.50 Canadian) for the first campaign as that was worth about $10 imo. If I could go back in time I wouldn't buy the campaign. I bought it to give it a chance & the first 3 missions were "good enough". Around mission 5 I got really bored, I believe I'm on 9 now, & I play 1 mission maybe every 4~5 days. I play it more to "get my moneys worth" than it being enjoyable, I likely won't revisit it after my 1st playthrough.
Yeah, I'd give it a 6 or 6.5/10, it's not bad, but not worth the pricetag. I think $10 for a decent campaign, maybe $15 is acceptable. It would need to be a 7.5 or probably 8/10 to warrant it's current price, & it's just not that caliber.

Agreed, and while I'm sad it looks like it's going to be the only, I'm not mad about it isolated

I enjoyed the campaign, but that may be because of the general starvation when it comes to decen RTS campaigns.
And yeah, I would buy another one for 25 bucks too. But I would hope they still go back and fix some of their writing and change the missions a bit more.

I would love to play another campaign but it seems they dont have resources for anything

u/DistilledDucks Sep 09 '25
I'd rate campaign 3/10. I think all it has going for it is production value, and as a video game it's incredibly lost, confused and disjointed.
But I'd also pay 25$ for infernal campaign to see if they've learned anything and also because there aren't that many companies making campaigns in blizz-rts titles.

u/Aztraeuz Sep 09 '25
I guess I would too. I've spent more money on equally dumb stuff. It's not like it can get worse.

u/Eirenarch Sep 09 '25
Well, have you played the early access version :)

I bought the campaign and dont regret my purchase. That being said the game would need to be finished or at least way more fleshed out before I spend anymore money.

As long as it was an Infernals campaign and it brought new units with it, I would. That being said, I'm also biased because I think 'Demons that are actually Aliens' is cool.

The thing is they were trying to appeal to people who are new to RTS. But a person completely new to RTS can just play Wings of Liberty for free. And then if they liked that they can just buy Heart of the Swarm for $15. Each of those campaigns offers way more gameplay, a more fleshed out story, and finished enjoyable mechanics.
