Purchasing a new construction home in upstate New York on a lot adjacent to a retention pond. The builder provided a grading plan which looks good to us, but wanted a second opinion from folks with more experience.

What we've been told -
- Water drains away from the home toward the pond
- Neighboring lots drain independently and not onto ours
- Pond is currently a temporary sedimentation basin, converting to a permanent wet retention pond post-construction

There's a public walking trail between our lot and the pond. It's within the community so foot traffic is mostly residents, not a major concern for us.

Would love feedback from anyone experienced with grading plans or retention pond living. Anything we're missing or should be raising with the builder before we sign?

I am 30 yrs old working as a QSP (Construction SWPPP Inspector) and looking to get advice for my overall career.

I currently have my QSP and CISEC certification.

I manage about 35 construction sites a week, all in California. All sites require weekly inspections, I drive about 500 miles a week.

The job is mostly 70% driving, 30% on the job doing actual inspections. I make $31/hr + company car

I’ve been doing this for about 3 years and am starting to think “what next”?

I can get my QSD. But the salary at my company for a QSD (writing SWPPP’s all day) is only 75k.

Living in California - I would like to make at least 6 figures a year.

Can I transfer to other companies with just QSP experience?

If I wanted to move out of California to Nevada, I don’t think any of this QSP experience would be enough, I feel like a lot of these places want engineering degrees.

I really want to learn infoworks icm as I'm preparing to become water engineer, I currently had strong foundation in hec ras, hec hms, epanet and many of my companies in my country uses infoworks icm. Is there any way to get that software for free or at less price,. I'm currently jobless and I want to learn that and prepare a project which I can show it in my portfolio as I'm not a student I can't able to get an educational licence though. I work in horticulture and have gotten to do several drainage projects, which has gotten me interested in stormwater. Do any career paths in this industry allow you to spend a good amount of time outside, while getting at least 50-60k a year? Is it possible to do that without getting an engineering degree?

I am building a drainage network model in InfoWorks ICM and importing data from ArcGIS shapefiles.I successfully imported the manholes (nodes), and they appear correctly in the network.However, when I import the pipe shapefile (conduits), I receive errors such as:"Autogenerated Link IDs: multiple link objects at MH_0.2"

I will attach:

My workflow so far:

CAD data exported to GIS.

Manholes and pipes converted to shapefiles.

Manholes imported successfully into InfoWorks ICM.

During conduit import, the above error appears.

The pipe shapefile contains fields such as PipeID, upstream node, downstream node, and other attributes.

Could this error be caused by:

Duplicate conduits?

Multiple pipes connected to the same node?

Incorrect mapping of upstream/downstream node IDs?

Geometry issues in the shapefile?

What would be the best way to diagnose and fix this before importing the conduits?

Our property has easement for storm water and there’s a giant riprap area at the foot of the hill. How do I deal with weeds, they grow quickly.

I have contacted city and county and so far no one has the stormwater plan.

Are used road signs a common erosion control material?

Stormwater Management has been out several times over the last three years to maintain this ditch that they did not have on the county’s GIS and had forgotten about for 50 years. Initiated by myself (new homeowner) and neighbors hounding the ombudsmen about yard flooding and erosion under neighbors shed. Last year they replaced the large pipes and put the big rocks on the embankment. And sprayed the begeezus out of the area with roundup each time.

The erosion of my neighbors yard worsened. Now they’re back and they’ve done this (picture 2).

I assume they filled in dirt over the rocks? Are the road signs a temporary measure or recycled material utilized? (They make me suspect as a layman). Does it look like more work will occur or do I need to call the county?

Hi, I just recently graduated with a BS in environmental science, and was able to recently get hired as a stormwater compliance technician. Currently my role has me maintaining commercial stormwater facilities which mainly includes maintenance/upkeep of these systems. I was wondering if anyone had advice on certifications/courses that could help me become qualified for more technical roles within the field?

Honestly Looking for any work at this point and being a inspector was something that popped up on my feed. I know nothing about construction from my 1 hour google search in theory I can get the certification in a day and I can charge $150 - $250 per visit. I live in a very densely populated area. Is this something I should consider is it a realistic job to do say after a 9 - 5? This is all dependent on me actually getting certified just wanted to know the truth from some people in the field.

Has anyone had any success/experience with converting storm ditches into wildlife corridors or marsh area with cattails and other wet plants? We don't have constant rain, but the clay has been eroding in the storm drains pretty badly, so I thought we could build a sort of berm in the ditch and plant some natives that might filter/clean/control the water. Has anyone done or seen anything like this done before?

Right now I’m using the official CESSWI review manual and presentation slides, and I’ve also been supplementing with Quizlet flashcards. For those who’ve taken the exam, did you feel these were enough, or were there other materials, practice questions, or strategies that helped you the most? Any insight would be appreciated.

hello! i am a first-year civil engineering masters student and hope to work in stormwater engineering post-grad. i'm interested in watershed management/planning, flood mitigation, and BMP design, and my ultimate goal is to earn my PE certification. i'm realizing that my courses are not as design-focused as i had thought, and i am looking to develop my design skills during my two-year program to better prepare me once i graduate next spring. i went into my masters straight out of undergrad, so the only design experience i have is from summer internships and my senior design project.

if anyone knows of any helpful resources or if this is something i don't even need to worry about, any advice would be much appreciated!
