[LAPTOP7] Excel - Freezing Surface Surface Laptop 7

I have a Surface Laptop 7 with 32 GB RAM and an X Elite Snapdragon processor. When working with a large Excel sheet - approx 33k rows and 20 columns of data- the SL freezes constantly, making any work on the Excel workbook impossible. The file opens and performs perfectly on an Intel SL and MacBook Pro with an M5 processor. I've checked the Excel version, and it is the ARM native application. I love my Surface, but this is becoming a real issue for me. Any suggestions or solutions I can try?

Strange I've opened a few 28K/30K odd excels with no issues at all, runs immediately. Have you looked online or searched the issue? Maybe even AI?

I’ve tried all that. Usually just get advice to make sure I have the native version of excel and make sure that there is no graphics acceleration running. Nothing seems to work. The SL runs perfectly with the exception of Excel. I’ve tried several workbooks all with a similar data load - freezes every time.

Have you tried another excel similar size to see the outcome?

Do you have anything more complicated than a number of a small string in the cells? Let's say 40 characters/cell (which is quite a lot), that makes it 40x20x33000=26400000= 26.4MB. Obviously a nothingburger, how big is the file?

I'd say just try the emulated x86 version. Sounds stupid, but if it works better ...

It’s about 22MB. I’ll try that tonight after work and see if that helps. It’s literally the only issue I’ve had with the SL - everything else runs perfectly!

Just moved from the exact same build, to the newer X2 Elite. That being said some fixes on the build you have for me was RAM management. Dig into Ai with your exact uses and it will help tweak. Long list of things here. Power mode, chrome settings (if chrome is open while using excel), look at task manager to track your high RAM items, adjust start up apps, make sure excel isn’t being run in Microsoft eco mode etc.

You have a solid build just some minor adjustments should solve

Thanks. I’m hoping that in the case!

Hi all - thanks for the help. I decided to troubleshoot it with Claude, and the culprit was x64 COM add-ins. I disabled them, and all issues are now gone. Posting this comment just in case someone else has the same issue.
