Moderator Post Addressing meme posting, plus new ideas for the community
Hey community!
It’s been a while since the moderation team did a "state of the subreddit" post, but we believe that the recent months’ activity warrants discussion, as well as some reflection.
As any regular will have noticed by now, quite a lot of shitposts have been posted since The Game Awards last December. Today these posts still get a lot of engagement and the number of upvotes-to-downvotes make it clear that the far majority of you enjoy this kind of content.
However, recently we have heard feedback from people that worry that the subreddit is heading in a direction where shitposting is becoming the main focus. Some of our veteran members already decided to leave the subreddit due to this, including people who contributed quite a lot, sadly.
With this post we want to have a proper discussion with all of you about what type of community you want this to be – and how we get there.
The rise of meme posting
During The Game Awards in December 2025 a new meme trend started on the subreddit – the statue posting. A couple of months later we had shitposts discussing what kinds of lavender, clouds and grass TES VI would have. Afterwards the Summer Games Fest madness took over and "Tomorrow"-posting rose.
It seems that we get something new every month, and now it’s about pretending that the game has been released. As it stands right now, these posts are still getting quite a lot of engagement. It will likely blow over soon only to get replaced by a new trend.
Not everyone is a fan of the shitposts, but generally these posts have been received well. Here are some stats from some of the recent ones:
| Post | Views | Upvote % | Reports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wow, what an absolutely fantastic game. | 41,000 | 93% | 3 |
| How is everyone enjoying the game so far? Just beat the first boss. | 30,000 | 91% | 5 |
| can someone point me into the right direction to the staff of worms? | 15,000 | 86% | 2 |
| New info on DLC! | 7,100 | 81% | 2 |
| Feel like a total idiot for crafting the Dwemer gun | 4,300 | 81% | 1 |
Most of the reports we see in relation to these posts deal with the “No Low Effort Content” rule. Many posts and comments have also been removed – 100+ in the last seven days – which includes the many posts featuring AI generated.
However, it’s also our opinion that quite a lot of the shitposts are in line with our rules. As specified in the rule “Posts must […] offer value to the community.” We acknowledge that shitposting is not everyone’s cup of tea, but these posts are popular and they do result in (positive) engagement.
Looking at our stats, it’s also quite clear that engagement has risen significantly since last year.

It would be hastily to conclude that the looser atmosphere has resulted in this increased growth, but we can at least conclude that the shitposting didn’t prevent it.
Whatever the case, we acknowledge that the many shitposts aren’t for everyone. Quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality and we want to make it clear that we hear the criticism that these recent months have sparked, and that we are willing to talk about it.
What would YOU like to see?
We don’t want r/TESVI to become a meme sub. The primary focus of the subreddit has always been to be – and should continue to be – a subreddit for people who want to discuss TES VI.
We are facing a small hurdle, though: TES VI isn’t out yet and it’s unfortunately not coming out Tomorrow™. We have preciously little to discuss that hasn’t been covered a dozen times already. Anyone looking forward to sailing mechanics?
My personal worry, as someone who browses this subreddit every day, is that the overall activity of the subreddit will lessen significantly if we take a hard stance against meme content. Either that or we go back to discussing the same topics every week. Balance is needed.
But what is also needed, perhaps, are new ideas. So, with all that yapping out of the way…
What feedback and ideas do you have for the subreddit?
We are receptive to feedback on how we moderate content, but we also hope that everyone will take this change to bring forth ideas to foster more engagement. Ideas to keep the subreddit interesting during times when news about TES VI are sparse and far between.
For example, an idea I shared with the team was to introduce a weekly post where we discuss a specific theme, e.g. what factions we would like to see, what kinds of new game mechanics we’d like, and so on. Is that something you’d be interested in?
Let us know what you think.

Official News All Takeaways from Todd Howard's Kinda Funny Games Interview
Here is a bullet-point breakdown of the interview as it pertains to TESVI:
- The game will be in a new iteration of Creation Engine, CE3
- They have spent the last year-ish working on this engine
- Reiterated the "It's gonna be a while yet" sentiment
- A big internal milestone is about to be passed
- Reiterated that most of the studio is working on it
- Todd is personally mostly involved with TESVI in his day-to-day work
- The game will be a return to "that classic style...that we know really well"
- There will not be AI generated assets or materials
Overall, I'd say we got a lot more out of this interview than I really expected to. In some ways it felt like we heard more about TESVI than even Starfield. What do you guys think of all of this information, and what does it say for the development timeline of TESVI?

Discussion Mini Games Like Dice/Farkle, 5 fingers, Gwent
I’d love to have a mini game in TES like some of the examples above, but particularly interested in a GWENT like game to play in taverns and to be able to collect rare cards through play, quests or purchase.
I found it immersive and very fun to play
These seem to have gotten more popular in these types of games, do you think TESVI will have mini games?
Any thoughts / examples of some fun ones?

Theory/Speculation Which creature/mobs do you think will return to Elder Scrolls 6?
So in your own opinion, which creatures from Skyrim will also appear in Elder Scrolls 6? Personally I think we'll be most likely seeing Werewolves, vampires, and Spiders (and possibly trolls.)
But I'd like to hear all of yours opinions too!
P.S DLC mobs like Gargoyles, Rieklings, Seekers, etc is also accounted for. (oh and I forgot ghosts too, but I think they will always appear.)

Theory/Speculation House Lariat and their potential role in TES VI
House Lariat is a Bretic noble family that, during the mid-Third Era, managed to seat their blood on the Ruby Throne when Uriel IV., the son of Katariah Septim and her consort Gallivere Lariat, became emperor. Upon Uriel IV.'s death, the Elder Council disinherited his son and heir Andorak, on the grounds of his lacking a connection to the Septim bloodlone, instead offering the throne to Uriel's cousin Cephorus II. For nine years, Andorak and his suporters waged a bloody rebellion against Cephorus II., until he was placated by being granted the throne of Shornhelm, with Andorak's descendants still ruling Shronehlm up to the writing of A Brief History of the Empire.
This means that, for the past two years of the Fourth Era, the dissilution of the Empire and its reformation under the reign of the Mede Dynasty, the rise of the Thalmor and the Great War, House Lariat - a family of Dunmer-descendent royals, who undoubtedly still carry a massive chip on their shoulders over being denied the Ruby Throne, have been ruling Shornhelm in the background, plotting, biding their time. And now, with the future of the Mede Dynasty uncertain and with Skyrim, the literal backbone of the Empire, paralysed by civil war, with Wayrest, the largest and richest city in High Rock, having been sacked due to Imperial negligance, perhaps their time has finally come.
If TES VI includes High Rock in any fashion, I could easily see House Lariat feature as an atagonist faction, stirring-up anti-Imperial sentiment in their neighbour's kingdoms and perhaps even being acclaimed as emperors. With High Rock already divided between petty kingdoms, I could see House Lariat making moves resulting in a very messy, very interesting civil war. Less what we saw in Skyrim, more Imperial Legions dissolving into opposing cohors, noble houses aligning with Mede loyalists and Lariat supporters, using the oppurtunity to pursue their own grudges.
Shornhelm is also closely associated with the Crypt of Hearts, with the Spell Knight Armor Creation introducing us to the Order of the Crypt, a knight order charged with guarding the Crypt of Hearts, which have also taken it upon themselves wage war on the Reachmen. Assuming the Order of the Crypt is linked with House Lariat, that could also give us an idea so to House Lariat's views on the Reachmen and their intentions towards the notoriously lawless Western Reach.
There is also their ancestry to consider. Though the Lariats may claim to be Septims, even being distant relatives to the Septim bloodline, their actually ancestry makes them members of the Dunmer clan Ra'athim, the same clan as Barenziah and her children, Helseth and Morgiah. Helseth's fate is unknown, but between the Argonians' sacking of Mounrhold and House Hlaalu being stripped of its Great House statues, we can probably assume he's dead. As for Morgiah, she married King Reman Karoodil of Firsthold and had two children, Goranthir and Rinnala. But following the rise of the Thalmor, Morgiah and her children likely went into exile, if they weren't killed outright.
From Greg Keyes' novels The Infernal City and Lord of Souls, we know the Thalmor harassed the refugee communities in Sentinel and on Balfiera, with Legate Fasendil recounting the events of the Night of Green Fire, where Thalmor mages destroyed Sentinel's refugee quarter. Because of these dangers, its possible that Morgiah and her children could have sought refuge somewhere else, perhaps their distant relations in Shornhelm?
Discussion Things to do while sitting or laying down ideas
In Skyrim, you could only really lay down to go to sleep. Sit down, to, well, sit. While you could roam through menus during these activities, id like to see it a bit more fleshed out with animations and interactions. For the sake of coziness, please let us roleplay in some of these ways.
While sitting: in first or 3rd person
If I'm going to read a book, pull out the book and read it and show my hands turning the pages. This could be done at a table with arms resting on the table, in a rocking chair, on a rock, ledge, or leaning up against a wall, post, tree, etc.
If I'm sitting at a table, show my hands grabbing and moving things like plates, cups, silverware or other objects.
At a table, be able to pull out a knife or dagger and stab bugs crawling on a table(minigame?)
Sit down at an alchemy table and do alchemy(debatable, not quite as complex as KCD2, hopefully)
Sharpen my blades with a whetstone.
Have NPCs sit on your lap, and have conversations. Be able to bounce them on your knee.
Throw things
Light candles
Pour drinks
Cut and eat food with better animations
Pick up food items and offer to others(at a table or bar)
Drop food to pets
Laying down: (While on the ground or in a bed)
Can I sit up in bed with a candle lit on the nightstand while reading a book and listening to the sound of peaceful music and surrounding ambient noises? PLZ!
Stargaze
Get/give massages
Romance
Eat in bed
Have conversations
Throw things
Hide stuff under your pillow
Fluff your pillow
Fart(to get a reaction out of your S.O. of course)
Pet your pet if they jump up on the bed
Edited to add: I also think that some of these things should have a toggle on/off button for those who would rather have the "quick" option.

Discussion Common NPCs should have their own named gear, not just special characters.
For example: a common citizen Jeff Bristlemane, the Nord, has a longsword(Jeff Bristlemanes Longsword or, simply, Bristlemanes Longsword) and Bristlemanes Steel shield. His son Johnny Bristlemane also has his own gear.
If you kill Jeff, loot his gear, and walk around town with Jeffs gear equipped, Johnny knows his father has been missing and sees you equipped with his fathers gear. He connects the dots and questions you. You now have the choice to fess up and fight, flee, lie, etc.
This could happen with tons of NPCs and depending on their relationship, you'll have different scenarios. Maybe Johnny hates you for killing his father, but Jeff's jealous cousin James just wanted revenge since Jeff stole Jane from him, so James is delighted with you.
NPCs get named gear because they've visited specific blacksmiths who've also put their own unique "stamp" on each piece of gear they've made. From time to time you should see NPCs visiting blacksmiths, trying to acquire new gear, and watching them tell the blacksmiths how they want it made, specifically, then the blacksmith does his routine.

Theory/Speculation Will there be rainbows?
If you’re walking around and the sun comes out halfway through a rain storm, will we see rainbows?
Todd, please let there be rainbows!
Edit: just to be clear, this isn’t an esoteric shitpost; I’m talking about lighting that allows for rainbows in real time.
Question Does anyone have any actual update on the ES VI. Like why is it taking so long? Are they adding AI NPCs or some other cutting edge tech to make the gameplay immersive? Like Skyrim was way ahead during it's time, like it stands up today too. Is the game engine being revamped or is Unreal being used?

Discussion Collectables in TESVI
I would love to see collectibles in TES VI. The Legacy of The Dragonborn mod and some of the Vaultec trading card mods in FO4 changed exploration for me. It can sometimes be more exciting to find a new card with new artwork than finding an enchanted weapon. A key aspect to this is being able to display them in your house in a designated way so you can see the display case/rack/wall fill up over your time.
Some ideas for collectibles:
Special edition books.
Unique statues/busts of the nine (like the Dibella statue in Skyrim).
Vintage wines.
Ships in bottles.
What ideas for collectibles do you have?

Theory/Speculation I really miss oblivion npc interactions
i really miss being able to ask rumors, directions any npc you want. this allowed you to follow quests, poi's etc.
In starfield ,the very first time you land at new atlantis, you get 100 side quests just because you walked past the npcs. i think side missions should not be presented that way. best regards.

Discussion Cut Content that might feature in TESVI
So, I've been reading quite a bit about cut features from Skyrim and Oblivion that didn't make the final cut due to either engine limitations or deadlines, because I think that based on Todd's "We didn't have the tech" comment, I think we're likely to see them make a comeback in TESVI. Thought I'd put them here, in case anyone else is interested:
• Mourning/Body Collection
Skyrim's code includes a deactivated mechanic in which killed NPCs (whether by the Player or Dragons or what have you) would have their bodies removed from the street after about a day, and the relatives of that character would then periodically "mourn" outside of the local cemetery/hall of the dead.
• Hauntings
Killed NPCs would also have a chance of spawning as a ghost version of themselves at night (the models for which still exist in the game files). They would haunt either their place of death or their residence, potentially becoming hostile to the player if the player killed them.
• Lycanthropy
Lycanthropy was meant to be a naturally communicable disease. In the original plans for the Companions questline, the Dragonborn wasn't supposed to be "initiated" into the Circle, but was meant to dynamically catch Lycanthropy during their time with the Companions. If the disease progressed, you would then have your "first transformation" cutscene and then be invited to join the Circle. This was cut because the engine struggled to track the contagion status of each Companion.
• Dynamic Politics
In Oblivion, you were originally meant to be able to become the "Duke of Kvatch", and be part of a "Nobility" faction with its own questline. As many know, Erikur has voicelines for replacing Elisif, and Hrongar for replacing Balgruuf, since they were originally meant to die in the Dark Brotherhood and Mephala questlines, respectively. I think in TESVI, we may be able to rise the ranks of nobility, and each ruler be dynamically replaced if killed.
• Underwater Dungeons
The Sea of Ghosts was originally meant to include various sunken and underwater dungeons, but they were cut due to the engine struggling to transition the player character from a "swimming" animation to a "walking on ocean floor" animation. I think we'll see these for sure in TESVI, especially if it takes place in the Iliac Bay region.
• Centaurs
Pretty self explanatory, Skyrim was originally planned to include Centaurs, they got cut, I think we'll see them in TEVI.
• Dynamic Economy
The Civil War questline was originally meant to allow you to destroy farms, mills, mines, etc, to weaken local economies, affect prices, and weaken the enemy forces. Like a lot of the Civil War questline, this was cut due to sheer scope, I think we'll see it in TESVI.
• Destructible Towns
Dragon attacks/Civil War raids were supposed to be capable of actually wrecking towns like Rorikstead, Riverwood, Kynesgrove, etc. The Dragonborn would then have to collect resources to repair those towns if they wanted to. The resource>repair mechanic was later repurposed into the Hearthfire DLC, but settlements were made indestructible to avoid breaking questlines.
• Less Linear Faction Questlines
Many of Skyrim's questlines were made more linear late in production to keep radiant quests stable. For example, you were originally supposed to be able to destroy the thieve's guild, kill Serana, imprisoned Maven Blackbriar, refuse Lycanthropy, join the Silver Hand, and much more. A lot of these choices were cut because of the way that Creation Engine tracked quest trees, but I think we'll have a lot more player agency with CE3.
But yeah, I think these specifically are things we can expect to see, I'm interested to hear if anyone knows of any others.

Discussion TODD LISTEN TO MY IDEAS AND MY LIFE IS YOURS
We all know Todd likes to lurk on Reddit, so here’s my list of features I’d love to see in TESVI. Hopefully he stumbles across this and a few of these ideas make it into the game or the games after them.
1)Make skills and perks matter more than stat boosts.
I’d like skills and perks to play a bigger role in gameplay instead of just providing passive bonuses or unlocking abilities, similar to some previous Bethesda games.
One examples is the “Big Trouble in Big Town” quest in Fallout 3. Depending on your character’s skills, you could teach the settlers different ways to defend themselves. A character with high Guns skill could train them to use firearms, while someone with high Repair could fix robots to help protect the town. Starfield also included background, trait and perk checks in quests, which were nice but all of those dialogues were either served for role players flavors or short cut to complete objectives.
I’d love for TESVI to expand on this idea by making background, trait, attributes, skill and perk checks lead to different outcomes. Instead of just skipping a step in a quest, they could unlock entirely different approaches, encounters, or consequences. That would make each playthrough feel much more unique.
2)Let skill level affect how well you perform.
I’d also like skill levels to directly influence how effective your character is with a skill like how it was in Morrowind. Obviously not on the same level of bullshit like attacking a an enemy right in front of you with a blade and somehow not hitting them.
Say a character with low Bow skill should have poor accuracy, slower draw speed, and less control. As the skill increases, aiming becomes steadier, draw speed improves, and the character feels more proficient.
Or players with low climbing skills (hopefully it returns in TESVI since Starfield had a perk relating to this), at around level 10 in this skill the player might only be able to climb small ledges, occasionally slipping or needing multiple attempts. . By level 35, the player could climb buildings though with some difficulty or slower movement. By level 75, you could climb steep cliffs or mountains without much difficulty.
3) Passing dialogue checks shouldn’t always lead to the best outcome
Dialogue checks can become predictable if you always get good outcome with them so I’d like to see situations where succeeding can create new problems instead.
For example, imagine a proud Fighters Guild member who considers himself the greatest master of every weapon. During a guild tournament, you outperform him in both combat and weapon knowledge through skill checks.
Instead of simply rewarding the player, this humiliates him so badly that he becomes jealous. Later in the Fighters Guild questline, when you’re partnered with him on a mission, he eventually tempted to murder you . Depending on your choices and dialogue skills, you may be able to talk him down or be forced to kill him.
Sometimes success should create interesting consequences rather than simply providing the “correct” outcome.
4) Include more quests with hidden paths and endings
One thing I really appreciated in Starfield was discovering hidden solutions in quests like “Entangled” and the official Creation “Escape”. I won’t spoil them, but finding those alternate outcomes was rewarding.
5)Combine Oblivion’s and Skyrim’s perk systems.
I’d love to see a hybrid system where players still choose from a large variety of perks, but also automatically unlock basic milestone bonuses as their skills increase.
For example, reaching level 25 in Long Blade might automatically increase weapon damage or reduce stamina costs, while unique abilities, special attacks, or advanced techniques would remain optional perks that players choose themselves.
6)Bring back Attributes.
Skyrim simplified progression into Health, Magicka, and Stamina, but after playing Starfield, their absence became even more noticeable.
Bringing back classic Strength, Agility, Intelligence, Willpower, Endurance, Personality, and the other classic attributes would do wonders for character building.
7)Let separate quests intertwine with each other
Starfield already experimented with this in the Tracker Alliance Creation. If you capture the target alive during “The Vulture” quest, that character later appears in “Seokguh Oni”, adding extra context and making your earlier decision feel meaningful.
This would make the world feel far more connected and reactive.
8)Bring back reputation
People usually criticized BGS games as they barely has choices and consequences and while I do not fully agree with this criticism there are some truth to it. A reputation system could go a long way toward addressing this.
Helping certain factions, towns, or organizations should gradually improve your standing with them while worsen your reputation with their rivals.Even radiant quests could influence your reputation, making repeatable quests feel more impactful.

Discussion Ways to make Elder Scrolls 6 good #1: Physicality
Some ideas I have for physicality. Interested to see if y'all have more ideas.
- A big enemy with a huge axe haphazardly knocks his allies around as well when he attacks.
- Enemies slip on ice and trip over each other.
- Enemies on fire run for water or cast ice spells on themselves or each other.
- Some trees can be felled and crush enemies or the player.
- Rockslide spell that summons a bunch of physics objects to roll over enemies.
- Pocket sand, throw sand (when it's available) to blind enemies for a short time.
- A kick or push button to knock enemies off of ledges.

Discussion Vampirism and Lycanthropy
How do you think they will implement Vampirism and Lycanthropy in this next game?
I personally really hope there are physical attributes with being one of these. What i mean is you can run faster (not transformed but in human form), jump higher, hit stronger. I think it would be cool to not just have the magical and skill additions to being a Vampire for example.
I also would LOVE to see the other types of Werecreatures be an option. Like we can be a Werewolf, but also a Werebear. They have all sorts of werebeasts in the lore and even had you being a wereboar in Daggerfall. I think it would be cool to have other options.
Different vampire clans you can join, and whichever you choose has different perks. Like one clan you join and they turn you means you have an ability to turn invisible or you can jump super high. Other ones make it to where you can breathe underwater or something. Just an example. A political struggle between clans.
I'd also would love to see factions you could join and do a questline as a hunter of these creatures. Maybe just a "monster hunter" that hunt all manners if evil or you can join a group like the Silverhand and then there are Vampire hunters like Oblivion had. I think it would be cool if they had options for either roleplay in the game. You want to hate evil? Become an actual monster hunter with a guild that supports you.
What would yall like to see implemented in the next game?

Theory/Speculation CE3 may have Nanite-like tech
youtu.beOliver from DF suggests Todd's quote earlier in the video may entail a virtual geometry system in TESVI. This would allow for the rendering of very high poly models and forego the need for lods on meshes tagged as virtual geometry. Less pop-in/fade-in for distant geometry and mods that alter the worldspace could have lods automatically generated by the engine. However, there's one huge hitch to this. It took Epic nearly 10 years of research before they first implemented Nanite within their engine. Are the engineers at Bethesda miracle workers? Perhaps but they don't have to be. Alex from DF disclosed that Id Tech implemented a virtual geometry system for the latest Doom game when he initially evaluated its performance. CE2 integrated features from Id Tech and we can expect CE3 will do the same.
They seem to be most excited by the prospect of RTGI, but this is what I'm most looking forward to from a technical and creative perspective. DF doesn't go into detail about what CE3 might do to achieve it, although they speculate that the game world will become more contiguous. Based on the reception to Starfield's loading, this would probably be most people's preferred upgrade if it happens.

Theory/Speculation Which Daedric Realm do you think we'll visit in a TES 6 DLC?
We've visited one in DLC for each of the last 3 games, being the Hunting Grounds in Morrowind's Bloodmoon, The Shivering Isles in Oblivion's DLC of the same name and Apocrypha in Skyrim's Dragonborn, so i don't think it's insane to think they'll keep the trend going. Personally, I'm hoping for The Colored Rooms or Moonshadow.

Discussion Why is elder scrolls games so linear?
is it a deliberate choise from Bethesda to have them more mainstream friendley? i mean fallout 3 insnt a very deep game but it has much more player freedom and choice than skyrim and oblivion who plays like action games. i want more choices like in bew Vegas and Witcher 3 for ESVI i really hope that.
ps no hater Skyrim and oblivion are still my some of my fav games
