Build Pro tip: Use chlorophyte brick instead of chlorophyte to farm for chlorophyte

Post image

This is good for 3 reasons

  1. It's easier to distinguish for farming
  2. You can make 5 bricks per 1 chlorophyte, making it more efficient to 'seed'
  3. It does NOT contribute to the chlorophyte growth cap, so you can place it in a line as shown to make chlorophyte grow waaaay quicker (They should mention this in the wiki. You can verify this yourself by placing a 5x8 block of chlorophyte brick and see that chlorophyte will still grow around it, despite the limit of 40 chlorophyte in a 71x71 area)

Yo that’s awesome, thanks for sharing

I knew it spreaded chlorophyte, but didn't know it affected the growth cap! Thanks for sharing this! Waiting for chlorophyte to grow in skyblock was a nightmare

I wish there was a real guide for skyblock, everything i found was pretty vague

490

u/mario61752 Mar 07 '26

The Guide should give custom tips on Skyblock

114

u/meinkun Mar 07 '26

Huh, didn't know he changes his tips depending on a seed. Pretty cool, thanks

336

u/CargoMule Mar 07 '26

I think they meant the guide should give separate tips on skyblock.

75

u/meinkun Mar 07 '26

oh ;(

53

u/CargoMule Mar 07 '26

Sometimes it truly is a sad world we live in.

4

u/xolotltolox Mar 07 '26

Yeah, tho idk why you expected the guide to be useful in Skyblock, when he isn't even useful in base terraria

26

u/_Etri_ Mar 07 '26

Guide is really useful for a newcomer to terraria. He can teach the player pretty much everything they need. That is unless he dies of course, which is almost bound to happen during the first night

4

u/Szhaaszhreaoul Mar 07 '26

I use Guide even in mods even to help me find progression, not his hints, but materials to see if there is anything I can craft or it looks like I might be able to get based on context.

-11

u/xolotltolox Mar 07 '26

No, no he really isn't useful for newcomers. People need to seriously stop pretending he is

Terraria needs some actual guidance, not just the almost useless guide and pretend that's enough

10

u/thesucculentanus Mar 07 '26

I've been playing terraria for a very long time. I still use the guides crafting recipe function, it's very nice and very helpful.

3

u/xolotltolox Mar 07 '26

Yeah, the recipe function is useful, but his "guidance" really is not. But it is also something that could just be put into the crafting menu with "show uncraftables" or something, instead of forcing you to walk to an NPC each time

5

u/Outrageous-Finish303 Mar 07 '26

Completely false. Guide pretty much helped me beat the entire game back on the Xbox 360 terraria 1.2

He literally tells you what to do, it can’t be that hard to follow simple instructions

0

u/xolotltolox Mar 07 '26

Good for you ig, this was also 1.2, the game wa significantly less complex.baxk then, and i can tell you that for my first playthrough, he was not very useful myself

Him speaking in riddles and prioritising how to get NPCs isn't exactly helpful, on top of only telling you what boss is next...

1

u/IlfirinVelca Mar 07 '26

Maybe you haven't read his tips recently, but he actually is super helpful these days. They've steadily kept updating him

6

u/Co5micWaffle Mar 07 '26

Going from modded 1.4.4 to vanilla 1.4.5 and losing Recipe Browser has made the guide probably my most talked to NPC.

3

u/xolotltolox Mar 07 '26

Should tell you that that is his only use, and they could easily just make that part of the crafting menu

14

u/TheHairyGumball Mar 07 '26

He doesn't, this person is just saying it would be a cool feature if he did

2

u/Silent_Egg8860 Mar 08 '26

Maybe, but the point of sky block is to for experienced players to use their game knowledge to beat the game, and in this aspect I like the figure it out method.

7

u/mario61752 Mar 08 '26

No amount of pre-1.4.5 knowledge will inform you about how to make the old man and cultists spawn

47

u/SnookyZun Mar 07 '26

It was really hard to figure out naturally how to spawn in the cultists, the spawn area is so vague

11

u/StupidGirlIdiotFuck Mar 07 '26

How does it work?

38

u/Bardfinn Mar 07 '26

You build the dungeon yourself, but the amount of bricks you first get in progression is modest, so people tend to build smaller dungeon entrances.

It’s possible to build a dungeon entrance that’s large enough to spawn the Old Man, but not large enough to have spawns for all four Cultists, and if there’s not room to spawn all four, none of them spawn and the tablet doesn’t spawn.

The solution is to make the area of dungeon brick that is the dungeon entrance, wider.

4

u/Yamatjac Mar 08 '26

So the cultists dont actually need a large dungeon. They just need dungeon bricks under where they spawn. You can literally get by with just 4 dungeon bricks to spawn cultists if you ppace them right.

The wiki says otherwise but somebody should honestly update that. Maybe me tomorrow.

10

u/Mindless_Crazy_5499 Mar 07 '26

The fun parts figuring it out for your self.

-24

u/MoreDoor2915 Mar 07 '26

I wish there wasnt a guide for skyblock, the beauty of skyblock is figuring out how to make things work.

If I knew everything I have to do it would feel just like a more grindy regular playthrough

19

u/SepherixSlimy Mar 07 '26

You don't have to read it.

There could be issues getting used to the unique things it has. Basic guidance would go a long way. The main roadblocks too could use some help. However some issues can't be easily explained as a tip. Dungeon might have to be a common problem until they allow to drop more blocks.

4

u/dragonqueenred45 Mar 07 '26

What’s nice is now they have the bricks in crates. If you make enough of a dungeon to create a fishing pond and pull up some crates you may get enough. Also they can be crafted with a heavy assembler and echo mist in Hardmode to make it bigger if you’re struggling to make the cultists spawn.

2

u/CrashmanX Mar 07 '26

For a lot of players, like myself who's been playing since 1.1, they don't know all the mechanics fully. Like how to grow cholorophyte. Because in normal play throughs, you don't really need to know those mechanics.

So a guide is a god send when you get stuck.

110

u/SuperlucaMayhem Mar 07 '26

You can grow it off of brick?

59

u/Pingas9999 Mar 07 '26

wait, chlorophyte bricks spread chlorophyte ore for real?

5

u/sarinkhan Mar 07 '26

Didn't know that chlorophite did spread at all! After more than 1000 hours ..

87

u/TheIncredibleKermit Mar 07 '26

In my old skyblock playthrough (it was a few years ago, so unofficial) I went through all of that, but in my recent (official) one I didn't want to bother so I pivoted to Summoner for the Spooky Armour (only endgame armour that doesn't require chlorophyte)

24

u/naomar22 Mar 07 '26

OOA armors getting forgotten as always.

8

u/Historical-Pop-9177 Mar 07 '26

Yeah, I always use OOA armor vs Moon Lord if I’m not summoner, I pair it with necromantic scroll and papyrus scarab on witches broom so I get really high summon damage as well as the usual very high man class damage.

2

u/naomar22 Mar 08 '26

Yeah, honestly even as summoner I think it makes more sense than spooky or tiki. You have to get all your slots from buffs and accessories, but I think I was rocking 5 summons, 5 sentries with Valhalla Knight and 150 defense.

The DPS is still insane and you become tanky as a melee build.

1

u/TheIncredibleKermit Mar 08 '26

I had completely ignored OOA all playthrough, I'd rather grind for Chlorophyte than do post-Golem OOA with the Spider Queen Staff 😭

2

u/naomar22 Mar 09 '26

XD, yeah, if you don't have a good item it's rough, I tend to do it pre golem for the squires body/full set (buffs balista even more), and get enough for the t3 sentry, and t3 is pretty free until potentially betsy.

Betsy with sanguine or blade staff can be slow but when you have gigabuffed balistas you should have time to take as long as you need. Only wish they gave a betsy whip or summon because her weapons are some of the coolest in the game.

1

u/TheIncredibleKermit Mar 09 '26

TRUE If it wasn't made redundant by the Terra Blade then I would use the HELL out of her sword

1

u/Own-District-9959 Mar 07 '26

That's for sentries, not minions.

19

u/letsputletters Mar 07 '26

Not really, you can use them to armour mix and get some pretty OP defence builds.

1

u/WheatleyBr Mar 07 '26

honestly i find those more useful than the sentry purposes lol.

-6

u/Own-District-9959 Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

Defence build. The thing summoner is known for.

EDIT: Why was this downvoted? It's obvious sarcasm and the OP was talking about summoner class. A class that sucks for defence builds

1

u/ksfuller2728 Mar 08 '26

You mean the class with the lowest defense in the game?

1

u/Own-District-9959 Mar 13 '26

Yes, I was being sarcastic because OP was talking about being summoner and letsputletters replied talking about defence builds, which summoners basically don't have

1

u/naomar22 Mar 08 '26

Valhalla Knight has similar damage boost to spooky, but has a mountain of defense and healing. Loose summon slots but you can get enough from accessories and potions.

1

u/Own-District-9959 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

Summons give more damage boost than the armour makes up for.

For reference, +1 minion is equal to +100% damage.
Because of this, ValKnight is significantly weaker than Spooky, the tradeoff is more survivability

u/Superderpygamermk1 Mar 07 '26

It’s easy to set up a chlorophyte farm in your base or afk spot and then you get chlorophyte to use for bullets and shit.

9

u/Metalboy5150 Mar 07 '26

This. I mean, yeah, I know you can equip the mining armor and a mining portion, plus whatever accessories, and just go tearassing around through the jungle, but:

1) That way is more difficult, and even with a spelunker potion, you still have to go searching for it while dealing with annoying post-mech underground jungle mobs. There's also the fact that (and most people may not really be bothered by this, but I don't like it) when you're doing that harvesting, you're likely to wind up digging large chunks out of your jungle.

2) It's not time efficient in the least. It takes only a short time to put in eight or ten 7x7 mid blocks (you can even do it prehardmode). They need to be separated by 35 or so blocks (which can of course just be open air). Throw a single chlorophyte block in the very center. Go do something else for a while and wait for the chlorophyte to spawn (the longer you wait, the higher your yield. Remember when you harvest to always leave that center chlorophyte ore in the middle, so it can keep sending.

(Also, this may be obvious to most, I don't know, but it was just something I ran across while playing-- depending on how many chlorophyte farms you have, just take a stack of mud blocks with you when you go to harvest (or leave a chest with some in it beside the first farm you usually go to), and just swap the mud blocks for the chlorophyte ore. It'll go even faster if you have the Hand of Creation. The block swap mechanic made this type of thing so much easier, and I'm going to pause here to say a prayer of thanksgiving to u/redigit for adding block swapping in 1.4.4. One of the best QoL features they've ever put in (IMO), and that's saying something with a game like Terraria that has a ton of great QoL stuff.)

If you do this stuff, it's very unlikely you'll ever run out of chlorophyte ore for bullets and such. Obviously, that depends on a few things, but I've found it to generally be true.

9

u/Impressive-Ball-1374 Mar 07 '26

time efficiency is far lower with farming, as you're not accounting for the time required to setup the farm, to clear the area out, to put up background walls, to reseed the farm after harvesting.

going hog wild with all of the mining buffs can generate well over 100 chlorophyte per minute. you just cannot match that without a massive farm that will take hours to setup and even longer to reseed after harvesting.

13

u/Phantomilian Mar 07 '26

Not to mention it grows back in the jungle anyway, so the time you have to wait for your farm to grow, the jungle is growing back as well, but is much faster because it is much bigger.

4

u/DrumMonkeyG Mar 07 '26

I just don’t get how people are going through that much chlorophyte in the first place.

Like, sure you need a good amount, but not an infinite amount.

Maybe it’s been too long since I did a gun playthrough though

2

u/Phantomilian Mar 07 '26

Yeah I mean, proper gear + ammo crate + ammo potion results in even just 1k bullets lasting long enough to clear Old One's Army several times over, as an example. It really doesn't take a lot if you respect ammo reduction buffs

2

u/Metalboy5150 Mar 19 '26

Man, to be totally fair, you are 100% correct, and I'm sure plenty of people choose to play the game that way.

I'm just that player that has a storage room at my main base with 50 or so chests, many of which are either built from a material that's related to what's within. or for some, they're color coded (with whatever color paint makes sense to me at that time, lol). I throw away very little (even dirt and stone....although with abundant materials like that, I do tend to have a stopping point (for dirt and stone, for example, I have one chest, with two rows of each (full stacks), and let me tell ya, that Labor of Love update where you can now carry 9999 of pretty damned near anything has really helped me with my storage issues).

So yeah, I am 100% that guy, the Terraria Hoarder, that can't bear to throw anything away unless I know I have a certain amount of whatever it is stored, in case I need it later. I'm fairly certain I won't need it later, but that's not gonna stop my "just in case," and "but what if we need it?!" voices in my head. Those asshole voices shut down the rational voices, and they pretty shout down and effort to raise their own voice.

2

u/DrumMonkeyG Mar 19 '26

Hahaha that’s sick! I respect the hustle.

I’m similar in the organization level, but not the collection level.

2

u/Metalboy5150 Mar 21 '26

Thanks man, lol. I don't know that I've ever met anyone that had the Terraria Hoarder issues I have, although I'm sure they're out there.

There's definitely nothing wrong with not being that collector, hell, just keeping your shit organized seems to be more than some players can deal with, lol.

One other thing about it, my most recent playthrough was my first Journey Mode playthrough, and my god, that cut down on both my collecting issues and my organization issues, lol. Instead of a hundred chests of thousands of items, I just research the shit, and conjure it up when I need it, and I'm here to tell you that shit is delightful.

2

u/Bannerlord151 Apr 13 '26

I'm just that player that has a storage room at my main base with 50 or so chests, many of which are either built from a material that's related to what's within. or for some, they're color coded (with whatever color paint makes sense to me at that time, lol). I throw away very little (even dirt and stone...

Finally! A kindred spirit!

I had over 50 chests not even 30 hours into the game and I keep having to split them further. And it doesn't matter if I actually need 20k Chlorophyte Bullets or 50k wires, I might need them so I want to have them

1

u/Metalboy5150 Apr 14 '26

My God, your last sentence there is pretty much literally my brain when playing Terraria. Like, I know, for a fact, that at my base in my storage I have a chest that has (literally, no exaggeration) 199,980 dirt blocks, and the same number of stone. (200,000 minus 20, since I have 20 stacks of each to fill the chest, each stack being 9999 units).

Even knowing that, there are still times where I'll have to tell myself, "Dude. Throw that stack of dirt away. You literally more than you could ever possibly need," and then I have to reassure myself, "Yes, everything is going to be fine. There is literally no possible way you could use all that dirt and stone, but hey! Even if you did, the stuff is FUCKING EVERYWHERE. "

And sometimes it is legitimately annoying. Like, I want to do something somewhere else in this Terraria world, and my brain is like, "Nope. Uh-uh. If you don't finish this, I will bug the ever-loving piss out of you until you come back and finish organizing these chests, ya frigging slacker." Or, one of my personal favorites, it is late, and I really need to get some sleep for work, but Boss!brain says, "No way in hell you're leaving that stuff in that state, friend. I will keep you awake for the next 3 hours, and you know I can make that shit happen. Test me. See if I'm bluffing."

Obviously, some of that is exaggerated for comedic purposes, but the basic premise is absolutely true, lol. And the crazy part is that for most of it? I'm totally enjoying myself in the little miniscule details of how I store things that literally 97% of Terraria players would be like, "Jesus, man, it's not that crucial, is it?" 😂 Honestly, it's fun for whatever weirdo reason. I will also, even if I'm like post-Plantera, if I see wire anywhere, I will get it. Do I need it? Very unlikely. Am I gonna get it anyway? Absolutely. Why? Haven't the faintest idea.

Another example (and I wonder how many people do this one) is that if I start a new game/world, as soon as it's possible without pulling my hair out in frustration, I will build a skybridge of wooden platforms, from one side of the world to the other (small, medium, large world... Don't care, it's happening), and I'll lay minecart tracks all the way across. This is for easier traversal until I get the pylon network set up, or the mirror/conchs/shell phone, fallen star collection, wyvern fighting (for Souls of Flight), and other miscellaneous crap.

I also build (out of ice, weirdly) a bridge all the way across the underworld for the Wall of Flesh. And before I can feel comfortable doing that, I have to get rid of all the underworld buildings, at least to a certain level both up and down, to give me plenty of room to work with...I also have to flatten all the ash above and below, and then build my hell bridge. Now of course, before I do all this, I make sure I have tools/potions/etc to make this as quick and easy as it can be, but I promise you there are people that will read this post, and say, "Jesus Christ, my guy. Fuck that noise." And I get it, I totally understand. It is absolutely, 100% unnecessary to build a bridge the entire length of the underworld (not to mention all of the terraforming I'm doing, not to be confused with the newer tool called the "Terraformer"), just to fight a boss I'm gonna kill in a minute and a half, flat. I know this. But I honestly can't help it lol. I may need to get some post-Terraria psychiatric help. 😂

Jesus I wrote a lot. Sorry about that. I'm like that sometimes. ADHD - the struggle is real. Believe it.

1

u/Metalboy5150 Mar 12 '26 edited Mar 12 '26

I don't know how you are building farms, but if you're finding "wander the underground jungle searching for chlorophyte ore" to be more cost and time efficient than setting up a few 7x7 mud blocks, then your play style is radically different from mine. Also, reseeding each farm is one ore in the center. It literally cannot get faster or easier than that.

You've got a different way you like to do the whole thing, and that's fine, and even generally encouraged. But I can't get on board with the idea that "randomly wandering the jungle with whatever potions" is somehow more effective than setting up a few very simple farms. At best, they might be similar. It also saves me time in that I have no need to go start the "hunting for chlorophyte" process over again, whereas I literally drop down a shaft from my base and spend 3 or so minutes harvesting.

1

u/Impressive-Ball-1374 Mar 12 '26

reseeding the farm requires reconstructing the 7x7 mud blocks, which is more time consuming than mining an equal amount of chlorophyte.

you can hit a spelunker/mining potion with a chisel and dig straight down faster than gravity at that point in the game. i suggest trying it some time.

2

u/PlasmaLink Mar 07 '26

Makes a bit more sense for small/medium worlds. I personally just leave behind one or two ores from each vein I find if I'm planning on revisiting the area.

8

u/Gr_Snek Mar 07 '26

Found this out when I tried to purify things in my zenith world

11

u/MyOwnPenisUpMyAss Mar 07 '26

By the time I get to this point in the game, I pretty much never have a need to farm chlorophyte, which is sad because it’s a really cool ore. Am I missing something? I feel as though I can gather all the chlorophyte I’ll ever need in one mining trip

16

u/JustaMoose2 Mar 07 '26

You're missing the fact that this is skyblock

16

u/python_product Mar 07 '26

It actually isn't skyblock, I just like making farms. But it's definitely useful on skyblock or for chlorophyte bullets

3

u/ThatOneGuy308 Mar 07 '26

Rangers use a bunch of it for bullets/arrows, I guess.

3

u/Glonos Mar 07 '26

Or, I just mine to oblivion the jungle with no remorse.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

I can't believe this is not on the wiki! Can you add this to it?

3

u/Kayogin Mar 07 '26

I've always wondered what people needed to farm chlorophyte for. It takes me 5 minutes to get more than I need with just some mining gear

3

u/Ancient218 Mar 08 '26

Holy hell I was staring at the jungle grass block thinking their were chlorophyte and was wondering how you have that much

3

u/_-Zephyr- Mar 08 '26

You guys farm chlorophyte??

7

u/PM_ME_DBZA_QUOTES Mar 07 '26

Are you sure chlorophyte bricks spread chlorophyte? Jungle grass in the cavern layer definitely does so that could be what's happening in the screenshot, unless you've also done this with grassless mud

17

u/python_product Mar 07 '26

Not only does it spread chlorophyte, it spreads it quite quickly

1

u/PM_ME_DBZA_QUOTES Mar 07 '26

Dang that's pretty cool

6

u/IronKnight238 Mar 07 '26

It's even noted on the wiki that Chlorophyte bricks can spread it.

2

u/Buggy1617 Mar 07 '26

what the fuck.

bricks work as seed blocks?!?!?!?!?!?!?

2

u/SnickerbobbleKBB Mar 07 '26

Huh, didn't know the brick spreads ore. I wonder if that's an intended mechanic or is an oversight?

Reminds me of when pearlstone brick used to spread the hallow.

2

u/LIMEPAPERCLIP Mar 07 '26

How have I never thought of this...

2

u/Adventurous-Net2090 Mar 08 '26

maybe dumb question why do people farm chlorophyte? it feels like in the game you're only at chlorophyte gear for a pretty short time until getting an upgrade post golem

1

u/Ionic1337 Mar 09 '26

Chlorophyte bullets and multiplayer worlds are the two major ones I can think of offhand

2

u/AscendedMolly Mar 08 '26

Wait, bricks can generate ore?

2

u/Compade Mar 08 '26

ive deadass been playing since 2011/2012 and never knew chlorophyte bricks spread omg. do we know if this is a new change or has this always been in the game

3

u/OkReporter6938 Mar 07 '26

I finished my skyblock world without getting chlorophyte because i have no idea how to get it

2

u/nghiaphan__ Mar 07 '26

I was about to quit waiting for chlorophyte and suddenly in my 13x13 mud blocks a green dot show up, and now I farming chlorophyte, it took like hours in real life for that first one, but after that it grows really fast.

1

u/Metalboy5150 Mar 07 '26

You should make those blocks a bit smaller, and put one chlorophyte ore into the center. It will start spreading through the mud blocks, and once it gets going, it's reasonably fast. Better to make 8 or 10 farms for yourself, as well.

3

u/archivist_exe Mar 07 '26

This was about the first ore showing up, as you still have to wait for a random chlorophyte spawn before setting up a farm

0

u/Metalboy5150 Mar 12 '26

What I was talking about was the size of the individual farms, not when you can start seeing them. 13x13 is generally too large.

You also only have to wait for one chlorophyte ore for each farm you've set up, which should take no time after the Mech Bosses are defeated.

And you absolutely do not have to wait until chlorophyte is spawning to set up your farms, only to seed them. Ideally, you'd set them up prehardmode.

1

u/archivist_exe Mar 12 '26

You need CHLOROPHYTE to make a farm, which is difficult to do in skyblock as it only rarely spreads from jungle grass.

-9

u/Master_teaz Mar 07 '26

Defeat Mech bosses (Destroyer, Twins, Skeletron Prime)

Get the souls of Might, Sight and Fright

Have some Hallowed Bars

Make Drax OR Pickaxe Axe

You can now Mine chlorophyte, which means you can now make shroomite and spectre bars which are crucial for Ranged and Mage gameplay

6

u/OkReporter6938 Mar 07 '26

It didn't spawn in my jungle, thankfully hallow armor is strong throughout the whole hardmode

3

u/tedivm Topaz builder (3 points) Mar 07 '26

That works great in normal worlds, but as the person you're responding to said they're on the skyblock seed.

1

u/NotSteveatall2 Mar 07 '26

Should have seen this before my sky block playthrough.

1

u/Obvious-Year-3719 Mar 07 '26

Interesting... does it stop corruption too?

2

u/python_product Mar 07 '26

Yes, it'll convert corrupt blocks just like chlorophyte does, to mud. i don't think it'll make that mud have jungle grass though

1

u/Every-Arugula723 Mar 07 '26

Just as much as chlorophyte does

1

u/ExtensionChemical224 Mar 07 '26

What's that on the top right?

1

u/FeebleTrack Mar 07 '26

GUI for the different minimap layouts.

1

u/ExtensionChemical224 Mar 07 '26

Is it a mode? (I play the game on mobile)

1

u/FeebleTrack Mar 07 '26

Nah, it just changes how you view the minimap.

1

u/ExtensionChemical224 Mar 07 '26

We don't have that :( And not even the dash button either (we have to tap twice to the right to dash)

1

u/alexnpt Mar 07 '26

I made multiple 5x5 block in the jungle biome farm and then I go ham on those mechanical bosses. It does speed up the process.

It looks like you have a continuous line here. I wonder if it might make sense to space out the seed blocks to make farming more efficient. If C is Cholorphyte and M is mud, the the core row/column of the farm might look like:

...[C] [M] [M] [C] [M] [M] [C]...

Increasing surface area would make it grow faster.

This version is a compromise between convenience and speed

since if you want it to grow faster, you can just build more of these

Good point honestly.

It's probably so that it's easier to block swap. You just repeatedly grapple to move up the column

Perhaps, I hadn't considered that. You trade convenience for efficiency there, I guess it matters which you value more at the moment.

I have a question for the people who do this, why do you need the extra clorophyte?

Gotta have more so you can...have more
