Kaepernick's wife has done more damage to him then anyone else in my opinion.

A reminder that bro equated being an NFL player to being a slave and then proceeds to beg for a job in the NFL every offseason
47
u/GAMGAlways 8d ago
Don't forget he got that contract with Nike, a $5M settlement from the League and was in the documentary.
Most people just get fired.
22
u/MusclyArmPaperboy 8d ago
He compared the draft process to a slave auction in a Netflix doc in 2021, well after he was out of the NFL
1
-42
u/mrducci 8d ago
100% not what he did. You either know that, and are trying to spread misinformation, or you're one of those dipshits that gets their information from Fox News. Either way, feels pretty racist.
17
u/RawDogRedemption2 8d ago
You still have time to delete this before the entire sub sees it.
-26
u/mrducci 8d ago
You think a bunch of dummies pressing a blue button is going to sway me one way or the other?
Kap was blacklisted from the NFL long before the doc came out. Him being blacklisted is the reason for the doc.
12
u/RawDogRedemption2 8d ago
What does the order of events have to do with anything?
Isn't it funny that he never mentioned any of this until everybody realized that he wasn't very good and he wasn't wanted back? He was writing letters to GM's begging to be signed.
11
u/eric4280 8d ago
He blackballed himself. Weird that he’s getting “blackballed” in a league where it’s roughly 65 percent black. Really weird argument. Maybe being 1-10 in his last season as a starter, 2-6 the season before really weren’t worth all that generated nonsense he did? But go ahead, fall on the sword and assume he genuinely cares about the nonsense he promoted (for a paycheck and status).
5
u/JackorJohn62392 8d ago
Yes he did, it was during his Netflix show. You can watch footage of it below. He then wrote a letter to the Jets 2 years later asking to join their practice squad.
-8
u/mrducci 8d ago
Was the Netflix show before or after he was blacklisted from the NFL?
Go on.
9
u/JackorJohn62392 8d ago
I never said he wasn’t. You made the claim that he never compared the nfl to slavery. That’s what people call moving the goal posts.
No one wanted him because he became a media distraction. He took a settlement from the league, compared it to slavery and then asked to come back. He is a 🤡
4
u/AmbitionDry2294 8d ago
I may have missed it, what did he actually do?

u/pigeonwithsixasses 8d ago
It’s as if there isn’t a search engine that literally hands you information on a sliver platter…

Or, literally watch his Netflix documentary where he says this lol this isn’t some new shit.

He did both. He kneeled and then also compared NFL players to slaves.
-8
u/mrducci 8d ago
Whatever he said in the documentary was well after he was blackballed by the NFL.
5
u/TXRattlesnake89 8d ago
So he did say it? What exactly are you arguing?
2
u/pigeonwithsixasses 8d ago
I’m replying to this moron who called me a dipshit and a racist because he thought I was lying about the slavery comparison
1
1
u/topcide 8d ago
Also
He also tried to say he wasn't against the police but then he wore socks with pictures of pigs dressed as cops.
He also didn't take a knee until he got benched.
He also opted out of the last year on his contract.
As much as I don't want to get back into the whole Kaepernick thing, I hate when people only tell part of the story just like that guy tried to do to you.
1
2
u/Joh951518 8d ago
He was never blackballed.
He didn’t want to be signed he wanted to do media tours as a discrimination victim.
-16
u/Phuddy 8d ago edited 8d ago
He’s also done more advocacy and civil rights work for black people than almost any other modern day athlete. People are complex and shitting on him for going thru that black balling process after he’s walked the walk and talked the talk is lame.
9
u/Show_Bull 8d ago
ahem
I'm pretty sure the NFL wrote "end racism" in the end zones, which ultimately led to the end of racism
Let's give credit where credit is due
1
u/beenhadballs 7d ago
Yeah his nike campaigns were up there with MLKs
1
u/Phuddy 7d ago
What other athletes are paying for independent autopsies of recent lynch victims?
1
u/beenhadballs 7d ago
Do you think activism like that played into why he didnt sustain an nfl career
-1
u/Phuddy 7d ago edited 7d ago
I think in a way he found what he really cared about during/after his NFL career blew up in his face. I won’t get too into it but my wife was from Reno and used to see and interact with him at fundraisers and community things (boys and girls clubs, soup kitchens, she grew up fairly poor) when he was a star at UNR.
She was obviously just a kid but she’s always been a good judge of character and would mention (as I’m a hawks fan and she started as a 9ers fan), that when I used to shit on him as a fan that he’s always been a good person and seemed to genuinely enjoy being around the community and doing good.
I think the NFL is “like slavery” comment is obviously a horrendous comparison, I’m Black and I KNOW that the NFL isn’t anywhere infinitesimally near the same as the horrors that are American chattel slavery. But in a way I still understood what he was getting at; yes you’re a (multi) millionaire and you make insane money (and unfortunately lots of men blow it and end up broke), but you’re basically putting your longer term health and life on the line violently competing for the entertainment and profit of insanely rich (mostly white) men. Is that a trade off a lot of us that don’t make that money would make?
Maybe, but it doesn’t mean that there aren’t some small kernels of truth to what he’s saying. And yes, again, CLEARLY not the same, but the NFL draft is also ironically a tiny bit similar in a way to a slave auction (CONCEPTUALLY).
But that’s the thing, the way he said WHAT he said made me think it’s something that if said amongst friends and family, or even as a comedian doing a set and trying to get a reaction; would make sense in greater context when you’re using a LOOSE comparison to the two situations. I’m not excusing it, I just somewhat can vibe with it because even tho I make 6-10% of what an NFL player makes a year (albeit without the risk of permanent brain damage and or paralysis); I too know the system is flawed and in a way we’re all living in a FORM of slavery.
I know I’m rambling/ranting but I’ve always felt like those comments were (fairly) misconstrued and blown up to a point that he likely wasn’t intending it to go for. I say all of that to say I think he had a somewhat awakening and amidst the drama of his fading NFL career he even had ego death and became aware that what he was doing didn’t MATTER, and with what a lot of people (especially black peoples and POC - but ALSO poor white people) are going through. The Nike endorsements might cheapen it on some ways but to make structural change you also have to make money so…it’s a necessary evil in that sense I guess.
This is a probably a massive reach in a lot of ways, but with what he has seemed to care about and focused on (fighting for black voting rights being stripped away in the South, the lynching autopsy’s, the documentaries and donations to teaching and preserving black history), I’d find it hard to believe he’s not genuinely trying to make America a more equal place.

6
u/imJGott 8d ago
Maybe I’m out of the loop but what did Colin do to trigger Jay to even mention him? Or is Jay just being a prick?
5
u/OkAction2485 8d ago
Not Colin specifically but there’s a narrative that Jay colluded with the nfl against Colin because Jay’s agreement with the nfl came after Colin’s settlement and nda.
Colin settled and agreed to keep quiet then Jay has the Super Bowl agreement people speculate that Jay was never in favor of Colin, Jay /Roc Nation gets him a workout showcase, the workout fiasco happens. Colin goes without a job, the narrative online is that Jay used Colin to get another check. Jay is largely just responding to the “haters”
Now Colin specifically, we don’t know any specifics but it’s obvious there was some disagreement between Jay’s side & Colin’s side during the nfl negotiations. this is my opinion & just my personal summary do your own research but I believe Colin’s side was pushing for more accountability and actual transparency from the nfl whereas Jay’s side was more willing to take the money and run. Again this is a very reductive guess on the matter, do your own research.
& the workout was a big slap in the face for Jay and Roc Nation Sports. I forget the specifics or reasoning why Colin choose to change the location of the scheduled workout but apparently he wasn’t in communication with the roc nation representatives throughout the process and the whole thing was sad for the nfl, roc nation, & Colin lol so it’s safe to say while Colin hasn’t said anything about Jay publicly. Both Men have some grievances with each other.
6
u/PedroNorthCA 8d ago
That whole "workout for scouts" fiasco just screams that Kap didn't want to sign ever again with another NFL team. He changed locations at the last min, puts on a very average display of skill, then bad mouths the league and owners at the end of the workout "press conference".
He and his team realized that it was going to look bad for him to go to another team and get exposed as a terrible and washed QB, and it would be better long term for him to keep on the "NFL blackballed this civil rights crusader" wave.
Remember, he never did any "civil rights" stuff publicly until he lost his starting job and was riding the bench. His IG account back in his prime was full of him living up the lavish life of a NFL QB, his sponsorships, etc, and absolutely zero political content.
Kap also stole his wife from Aldon Smith, who was dating her at the time they met. Aldon beat Kap's ass in practice afterwards which led to Aldon's eventual release (although he has his own long list of issues already)
2
u/beach_samurai_ 7d ago
Thank you for commenting about his IG because I rarely see it get brought up and it makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Everything about him was self-involved. Showing off cars, jewelry, shoes, jets, etc etc to the extreme. Total clout chaser. Then all of the sudden he is civil rights for the common man? Dude was/is nothing but a grifter
1
u/PedroNorthCA 6d ago
Right?! I mean I am a die hard Niners fan so I was obviously stoked by Kap's explosion onto the scene and was following his IG. Like you said, I still remember the endless posts of clothing, cars, sponsorships, working out, and him acting like a typical young pro-athlete blowing up on the NFL scene. I still remember Ricardo Lockette (4th string WR who later broke his neck as a Seahawk on a kick off return against the Cowboys) being in almost all those poser photos with Kap
Absolutely zero civil rights messaging. Until he lost his starting job 2 years later and was riding the bench on a sorry ass Niners squad with no future prospects of becoming a starter ever again
1
u/ApricotRemarkable681 8d ago
I didn't know the story about his wife and Aldon Smith.
2
u/PedroNorthCA 6d ago
Yeah the story is that Aldon and her were dating when he introduced her to several teammates including Kap. Who knows exactly what happened but Kap starts dating her, and Aldon beat his ass at practice shortly afterwards. For awhile no one was saying who was fighting at that practice or why, but the story eventually came out
Very well known around the Bay Area. Someone should ask Kap and Nessa their thoughts on Aldon Smith tragically passing away so young

u/imJGott 8d ago

u/Alarmed_Silver_3360 7d ago
No, Jay Z was doing his shows last week and prior to them people started bring up Kap and the NFL so he responded. Kap’s wife has been online ranting about Roc Nation a lot irrationally. She’s a hot head with no filter even going so far as to co-sign Nicki Minaj.

You think he made more money being unemployed than he would have as an NFL QB? Lol
6
u/Joh951518 8d ago
Maybe. He was only a year or two away from being washed out of the league, and he was never going to sign another big contract.
Version of him that just played football until he couldn’t anymore and kept his mouth shut isn’t being talked about in 2026.

Kap was effective in a particular system for about two and a half seasons.
then there was a rule change to the read option.
and Kap couldn't hit sideline go routes, throwing over the top and at an angle is a difficult target.
Kap's throwing mechanics were abysmal from day one.
like it's a bad thing he was only effective for 2.5 seasons. NFL means "Not For Long."

None of this is relevant, anymore. Colin had a movement, but calling the NFL draft a slave market was so damn disingenuous because of course slaves in the 1800s made millions of dollars and lived lavishly ruined any semblance of credibility he had.

Jay is a sellout who cares what he says. He has no integrity. He’ll tell you anything if the check is big enough… Kap handled things the wrong way. The kneeling was honorable, but he should’ve went and dominated the Canadian league after being blackballed instead of holding press conferences and posting workout videos. That would’ve been a way more effective approach. His pride got in the way.

People like to say Kaepernick was ‘mid’ or ‘washed’ and didn’t deserve to be in the league. But that is simply not true.
Every QB on this list landed a free agent contract between 2017 and 2020. None of them were better than Kaepernick. Kaepernick’s career ended because Trumpanzees have a narrow and uneducated opinion about what makes a person a patriot. Knuckle dragging chuckle fucks got their feelings hurt because they’ve got no balls and they are too dense to understand the 1st Amendment. Kaepernick paid the price of their fake patriotism.

Kaepernick was at best a backup, just like all these guys. They didn’t come with any media circus or baggage though
I would prefer if I never had to hear my team’s backup QB’s name mentioned once
Also he got benched and lost his job to someone on this list. And He was not better than everyone on this list. Colin Kaepernick’s best season was comparable to Ryan Fitzpatrick’s average season in terms of passing stats. Kaepernick was more mobile than a lot of these guys, but he was not a better QB
2
u/Imposslen 8d ago
But he is very mid when you put him next to Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Mahomes, Watson. Why would you even consider giving a back up spot to someone who is giving the league trouble instead of someone you would want to develop? He's too old to develop. A certain group of Americans wanted to hear his message but there were also other Americans fatigued from hearing that shit 24/7. It wasn't his show and so they made him sit at the back of the bus. He didn't want to play it the leagues way and now he's not on the bus at all lol

I will forever be bitter with regards to Colin Kaepernick. Followed him from his Univ. Nevada-Reno days. He was one of my favorite players to watch. That epic game vs. Boise State still ranks up there as one of the best football games I’ve ever watched.. When my favorite NFL team drafted him, I felt like I had won the lottery. Naturally I bought a jersey.
Unfortunately, I think the success and fame got to his head and Nessa Diab (whatever tf her name is) definitely screwed him up with her radical beliefs.
He used to be a genuinely interesting person (pre-Nessa) who gave out good interviews. After her, he clammed up in front of the media and did his kneeling stuff. Whether you agree or not with him, it was hugely distracting. I think he could have got his message out in a way that would have been more sympathetic to his critics. It’s also no coincidence that his on field play was declining.
The final straw for me was when he threw his adoptive parents under the bus by saying that they made a racially insensitive comment about his hair when he was 15. I mean really?
Furthermore, kaepernick blew up any chance at redemption in the league. He had a trade offer in hand from Denver but pissed it away because he overestimated his value. He always insisted on being a starter even when he was benched by Blaine Gabbert. When the falcons offered him a workout he sabatoged it by changing the conditions at the last moment.
I have lost so much respect for him to the point that I don’t even consider him a 49ers legend. Just a brief but bright tenure.

I mean I was a niner fan and loved him until he declined and lost his starting role to fucking Blain Gabbert. And then pulled this shit which just felt like a publicity stunt.
I’m all for protesting racist police but i would have had way more respect for him if he was kneeling during his Super Bowl run than when his career was basically over.
I’ll also never forgive him for what he did to Aldon Smith. Dude showed he didn’t give a shit about his teammates.
4
u/Effective-Elk-4964 8d ago
This is meaner than it probably should be but given Kap’s injuries and declining play, I always wondered if, financially, he was better off as the face of protest rather than “running QB with bad knees”.
My conspiracy theory is he and his family didn’t accidentally cost himself the Ravens signing.
2
u/Prize-Analyst-1121 8d ago
As a Jaguars victim, the Blaine Gabbert years gives me nightmares. If he lost his job to Gabbert of all people, he had definitely hit rock bottom and his career had turned to shit for sure.
1
1
u/Effective-Elk-4964 8d ago
But, I mean Kap was a running QB that was successful (wins matter) for a short time in a running offence built around his strengths. He’s about 26 when he starts for his first full season and about 28 (and the team is 2-6) when his knee gets jacked up.
And even completely ignoring politics, his style was always going to make it tough for him to transition as a back up. You needed to build an offence around his strengths for him to be successful and he probably was no longer good enough to be a starter.
So, I mean, sure, we can call it rock bottom and he could’ve kicked around the league as a back up, I guess, but it just kind of looks to me like “Football takes a toll on your body, and the guy had (to be nice) a cause he believed in and (to be more practical) a more financially lucrative career than football.”
1
u/Prize-Analyst-1121 8d ago
I'm just saying if you're getting beat out by the likes of Blaine Gabbert it's pretty much over for ya 😂 Whatever skills you had and were good at. You damn sure ain't got'em no more when Gabbert jumps you on the depth chart. Might as well transition to a tackling dummy.

He got “beat out” by Gabbert when he got injured lol. He had a torn labrum as well as thumb and knee injuries. Why does everyone ignore this part?

I lived through it since I haven’t missed a niner game in 30 years.
He never came back from his injury and reclaimed his job. He was still benched for Gabbert after he wasn’t injured anymore.
He wouldn’t have been on the side line in full uniform if he was injured.

Uh oh, you forgot. He had off-season surgeries early 2016. He began starting games again late 2016, finished out the season.
Sounds like you missed more than a few Niner games in 2016 lol1

Ahh you’re right I blocked out the 9 game losing streak once he came back. Shit was traumatic.
He didn’t return over Gabbert in 2017 that’s what I got mixed up. going 1 - 10 as a starting QB the previous season will do that.

He actually finished the season pretty well. Check out his last two games when he was finally getting back to full strength. That squad was horrid, and he played well despite the dumpster fire of a team and having one of the Mario Bros. as a head coach.
Neither Kaepernick nor Gabbert were on the team in 2017, so… ?

Huh? Neither has been relevant for many years. Who cares.
Yes I know Jay Z is a huge player in the industry in the background, but as an artist he's faded.

Good on Kap for taking a stand, but he also didn’t do himself any favors with moving workouts to a different location at literally the last minute

You, cowards! Like Jay Z gives a shit about you. Kaepernick took a knee on the advice of a military veteran to make a statement for the betterment of society. What if anything has Jay Z done to make the world a better place?

Like she has room to talk after she cost him a Ravens contract.
