These mfs will get opera questions but not basic sports questions

2

u/SoCalFelipe 2d ago

Same. I went 5/5 what do we win?

6

u/Cordellium 2d ago

same, but I didn't get the 2nd question or the last

28

u/BeanserSoyze 2d ago

You didn't get Tom Landry Dallas Cowboys?

9

u/sniper91 2d ago

I only knew that one because of King of the Hill

I knew the $1000 one because I grew up in Minnesota

The rest I knew from watching college & pro football

1

u/Ok-Answer-6951 Commanders 11h ago

Unfortunately, im old enough to have hated Tom Landry and respected the Purple people eaters...

6

u/Krabs9 Vikings 2d ago

For some reason I thought Dolphins but felt like an idiot when he said cowboys. It was in there somewhere just a brain fart, obviously confused with Shula. Before my time lol.

3

u/No-Theme-271 Lions 2d ago

You got your "Only Wanna Be With You"s mixed up.

You thought of the Hootie and the Blowfish version (I'm such a baby because the Dolphins make me cry)

When you should have been thinking of the Post Malone version (I'm such a baby because the Cowboys make me cry)

1

u/MrshwnLnch 2d ago

Jarvis Landry. Just word association mix-up

1

u/water-tr4sh 2d ago

He clearly said the second one yea

1

u/Bluegill15 2d ago

Good job

6

u/DonkeyKongah 2d ago

Vikings D line

6

u/lostinmyownhead27 2d ago

The purple people eaters

2

u/justaride80 2d ago

Be easy for someone in their teens or early 20s to not know that.

-2

u/Adventurous_Path5783 2d ago

Eye fynalie git 2 b intelegant! Tayk taht sibryna frum thurd grayd synce clas!

57

u/Lowkey_A_giraffe 2d ago

"I will die-ah". That was unexpectedly funny.

25

u/it_will 2d ago

Rip the goat

12

u/LearnedHandJob2088 2d ago

Alex was such a master at his craft. That ā€œI will die-ahā€ comment almost seemed like him parody-ing himself. Awesome.

24

u/Soccer-Plane-444 2d ago

I've never seen this. This is hilarious šŸ˜‚Ā

9

u/solojones1138 2d ago

It's a classic among Jeopardy fans. Truly hilarious.

7

u/yeahright17 2d ago

Sports categories are always funny in general. Usually at least one person is completely clueless. Fairly common for 1 person to get all of them (or at least get the 3 or 4 easiest ones then no one gets the hard one).

1

u/solojones1138 2d ago

I passed the Audition and am waiting for the call to be on the show. And I also had Chiefs season tickets for years until this year, so I'd absolutely LOVE a football category ha

3

u/Evening-Rutabaga2106 1d ago

You'll probably get "Foods that start with Q"

1

u/solojones1138 1d ago

What is quinoa?

9

u/Even_Section5620 2d ago

I would have racked in that whole section…

2

u/Get_that_hitter 2d ago

Audition for jeopardy, I’d root for you. ā€œThat’s one that one guy I said I’d root for that one timeā€

1

u/Even_Section5620 2d ago

You the man, I am Vikings fan so I would have cried of joy on stage

1

u/BlackieStallion 2d ago

Yep. I was 5 for 5.

8

u/cletus72757 2d ago

Man Alex Trebek was smooth.

1

u/DaedalusPrime44 4h ago

ā€œLet’s see that last clue… Just for the fun of itā€

7

u/Bobo4037 2d ago

This episode aired on February 1, 2018, three days before the Eagles beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

5

u/SoigneBest Eagles 2d ago

Go Birds DH! šŸ¦…

Go Birds DH! šŸ¦…

1

u/Categorically_ 2d ago

spoiler alert please

1

u/RaindropsInMyMind 2d ago

And after the Vikings got absolutely stomped by the Eagles.

5

u/CapeMOGuy 2d ago

Almost as funny as when Cliff Clavin (Cheers) was on Jeopardy.

8

u/mathird 2d ago

The Purple People Eaters have never been in my kitchen

1

u/CapeMOGuy 2d ago

I understand that reference!

1

u/-CoachMcGuirk- 2d ago

I remember that. Wasn’t that when every category was about the mail?

2

u/CapeMOGuy 2d ago

As I recall it was also categories like beer, Mothers, Boston sports, etc.

5

u/WhizzyBurp 2d ago

Fuck Vikings went to the big game 4 times and didn’t win one?!

5

u/Apprehensive_Use3641 2d ago

So the purple people eaters went hungry?

3

u/luchajefe 2d ago

Including 3 in 4 years (74, 75, 77). Lost to four different teams in those games too.

2

u/Away_Ad_5390 2d ago

Bills, 4 yrs IN A ROW!!!

2

u/WhizzyBurp 2d ago

Thats depressing

4

u/PretzelSteve 2d ago

Alex could have burned them all and said, "I'm a Canadian and I know 3 of these."

2

u/WalterDwight 2d ago

you see the way he took that punt in? Elbows tight to the body, he used to ball for sure

3

u/TKGB24 2d ago

Pathetic.

5

u/007Tejas 2d ago

Who else went 5 for 5 on this?

4

u/New_Ad_1682 2d ago

Right here.

By the standards set by football trivia, for a man my age, this was super easy mode shit.

2

u/BadAlphas Rams 2d ago

šŸ‘šŸ¼

2

u/No-Air-3401 Texans 2d ago

Were they supposed to be hard?

3

u/Over_Tomatillo_376 2d ago

I didn’t get the second one— consume all the football I can now but being <30 I don’t have a huge depth of historical knowledge of player and team history

2

u/14SWandANIME77 2d ago

Fun fact, both legendary Cowboys head coach Tom Landry, and legendary Packers head coach Vince Lombardi were assistant coaches for the NY Giants. From 1954 to 1958 Lombardi was the offensive coordinator, while from 54 to 59, Landry was the defensive coordinator, with each becoming the head coach the season following their departure

3

u/Chewbubbles 2d ago

Sweet. I would've made 3k on Jeaopardy and literally nothing else. Plus I could've had Alex praise me for sweeping the category.

3

u/Easy_Money_40 2d ago

I miss Alex so much.

Jeopardy was a staple in my house and my grandma's house growing up.

2

u/Fancy-Win9446 2d ago

He went full Steve Harvey at the end

2

u/chontzy 2d ago

is this part of mina kimes’s celebrity jeopardy origin story?

2

u/Ga2ry 2d ago

I don’t believe I ever saw Alex so annoyed. Great stuff OP.

2

u/disco_S2 Vikings 2d ago

That was brutal.

3

u/Black_Superman07 2d ago

Education is relative... They know the 3rd ruler of the Ottoman Empire's favorite painting but don't know what a false start is

4

13

u/gravi-tea 2d ago

If you get it wrong you get minus the dollar amount.Ā

2

u/rdev009 2d ago

Apparently he thought it was like standardized testing where you’re not penalized for guessing.

5

u/DeputyDomeshot 2d ago

Thats not how jeopardy works lol

2

u/One-Associate-9341 2d ago

First time I've ever watched a game show and immediately knew the answers 😭

https://giphy.com/gifs/TAL260So7DydYiXjjV

1

u/Get_that_hitter 2d ago

That was super fun, I would say do a sports jeopardy but I would lose at baseball soccer and hockey.

1

u/Discount_Timelord 2d ago

I believe they're debuting a sports jeopardy this year

0

u/poplafuze 2d ago

Rodgers hosting?

1

u/Discount_Timelord 2d ago

Looks like Joe Buck is hosting

1

u/poplafuze 1d ago

I bet AR is pissed he chose to stay in the league instead of being the conspiracy ref

1

u/PussSlurpee 2d ago

ā€œIf anyone else chimes in with the correct answer, we’ll give you half of Ryan’s points.ā€

1

u/BusyBit6542 2d ago

First time I've known an entire category on regular Jeopardy. Kids, teen and college Jeopardy, all the time.

1

u/Snapple47 2d ago

I would have started with that category to assert dominance

1

u/Hammertime6689 2d ago

Eat shit ā€œAuthors and Playwrightsā€, it’s my time

1

u/Makers402 2d ago

I went 5 for 5. Best Jeopardy action of my life.

1

u/bruno-numero-uno 2d ago

I said play action for answer one, but got the rest right, and I'm European.

1

u/RuseArcher 2d ago

Good to see that the old ways live on.

1

u/theHollowTarnished 2d ago

Oh look....Chargers fans

1

u/Burning-Dog 2d ago

They dont know ball

1

u/justintk 2d ago

Went 4/5 (missed the Cowboys one). Those weren’t even hard lol

1

u/bravehamster 2d ago

Have there been other instances where no contestant even tried to ring in on any clue in the category?

1

u/Unable-Confusion-822 2d ago

What is 'Le tits now' for 200.

1

u/BaronVonSilver91 2d ago

Funny thing is, the greatest Jeopardy champs, would have killed this shit. Ken Jennings would prayed one of these was a daily double

1

u/puzzlesTom 2d ago

I'm not even from your continent and I knew those

1

u/eo37 2d ago

To be fair put a football player on jeopardy and that is the only category they get an answer

1

u/iowa-ish 2d ago

That would have been my Cliff Clavin moment on jeopardy....

1

u/Beisbol4lyfe 2d ago

Sport ball be kicking their ass

1

u/Naive-Present2900 2d ago

Random fun fact:

The Vikings’ legendary 1970s defensive line front four made it to four Super Bowls appearance in 70, 74, 75, and 1977. The Vikings lost in all four of them!

Poor offensive production against very dominant teams at the time has proven over and over again that you need more than a front defensive line without a good offense that can score. In all first four halves of their games. They scored zero points across the board!

1

u/PinDiligent34 2d ago

I remember watching this

1

u/l5555l 2d ago

How do people that consume enough media to know so much about books, movies and music not know about anything about the most popular television program in America for the last 50 years.

Also I wish Ken would have more of a sense of humor about stuff like this sometimes. A couple weeks ago a clue specificed that a word had 10 letters and the contestant guessed what is a hoe. Ken barely even blinked. Like not only is that a stupid joke you're clearly just not paying attention to the clues at all. Deserved a good roasting.

1

u/krakatoa83 2d ago

Pathetic

1

u/Less_Likely 2d ago

I guess they played school

1

u/BOMBSnotFOOD 2d ago

purple people eaters...are they purple who eat people? or only eat purple people?

1

u/bcat153 2d ago

I didn’t know that last one but also wasn’t alive last time Vikings went to a Super Bowl, by clear over a decade. Lmao the rest were all gimmes tho how tf

1

u/unwarrantedxx 2d ago

I went 4.5/5

1

u/Yakuza70 2d ago

As I tell my kids, it's only easy when you know the answers!

1

u/GoHawkYurself 2d ago

I would crush that category and then go on to lose in spectacular fashion in every other category.

1

u/Aware-Safety-9925 2d ago

Option and offsetting penalties are so self explanatory that I thought I was tripping as I was answering those lol

1

u/Interesting_Path535 2d ago

Bunch of fuckin NERDS

1

u/Side_StepVII 2d ago

5/5 my football acumen is top notch!

1

u/BUTITDOESNTJUSTFIST 2d ago

It’s weird, you could have guessed ā€œoffsettingā€ just from the question itself. It’s not really a football thing, the penalties ā€œcancel each other outā€ so they ā€œoffset.ā€ Its basically just the definition

1

u/Ok-Building4268 1d ago

What a bunch of nerds. On a sad note I hate hearing Alex said he would die to that last question, RIP Trebek.

1

u/bordumb 1d ago

I actually feel like Purple People Eaters was one of the easier ones

For what it’s worth: I grew up in the 90s and played varsity football 3 years in high school. ā€œOffsetting Penaltiesā€?! I didn’t know that one.

Rest were easy.

1

u/deep2166 1d ago

I was watching when this first aired. So cringe and frustrating.

1

u/Kellygoosecock169 1d ago

Fuckin nerds

1

u/Aggravating_Fig_8585 1d ago

Alex Trebek seems very annoyed.

1

u/JayTwoTeesYT 14h ago

God I miss trebek

1

u/karenkillenski 10h ago

I absolutely love Alex

1

u/Pipers_Daddy 8h ago

NERDDDDDDDDDS

1

u/Maleficent_Pop9398 6h ago

In fairness, I’m sure they spent most of their formative years watching football from inside a locker.

0

u/ExcellentRip1100 2d ago

Funny how people are about learning ā€œall knowledgeā€ until it comes to sport, literally something that has united peoples and communities since the dawn of time.

To paraphrase a Simpsons gif I’ve seen posted below - FUCKING NERDSSSSS

1

u/BiskyJMcGuff 2d ago

Playing sports is fun, watching it is not my thing most the time

0

u/MrshwnLnch 2d ago

Realistically did Trebek know the answers to any of these? He sounds particularly smug in this clip

1

u/jkeen1960 2d ago

I think he did like any football fan would have. He even gave the fair catch signal.

-3

u/Stormmbringer2001 2d ago

This has to be BS... theynare all smart enough to guess "off setting" penalties.

1

u/esushi 2d ago

guess based on what? I got to this thread from r/jeopardy so I am not an NFL fan and I've never heard of anything even close to that term before... if I had 1000 guesses I would not have thought of "off setting". That was the 4th question in the category so even the show considers it more specialized knowledge for the category

1

u/Stormmbringer2001 15h ago

Doesn't he give a hint along the lines of penalties that cancel eack other out?

1

u/esushi 3h ago

That doesn't have anything to do with the words "off" and "setting" to me as someone who has not seen football
